EDITORIAL
Dear RIMOWA Friends,
An exciting year is now drawing to a close, and we
can look back with pride on an eventful time. The
last few weeks in particular have seen a lot going on
at RIMOWA, and we would like to invite you to join
us once again in this issue and immerse yourself in
our exciting world of suitcases.
president and CEO Dieter Morszeck in person at the
successful opening event for the new store. After cut
ting the traditional cake shaped like a suitcase,
Mr Morszeck explained, ‘New York is not only a city,
but the city of cities and a way of life. In the same way,
RIMOWA suitcases are more than just luggage: they al
ways make a statement. That’s why we fit in so well over
here, and we are delighted to be able to open our own
store in the city. We flew over New York in the JU52
back in 2012, and now we have our own shop in a prime
location.’
‘New York
is not only a city,
but the city of cities
and a way of life.’

RIMOWA suitcases
The famous curator Neville Wakefield is also excited
about the new location and took the opportunity to
present his own edition of the RIMOWA Topas series.
The silver aluminium cases with matte black elements
have been polished to produce a mirror finish, reflect
ing the world around them. A limited 40 sets are avail
able for purchase, each consisting of a cabin case and
a size 73 suitcase (together for $7,500). Those interested
in the series are welcome to submit an application on
www.RIMOWAedition.com and, with a little luck, they
will be selected as a proud owner.
The unquestionable highlight was our store
opening in New York, which we celebrated with our
special guests Alessandra Ambrosio, Jared Leto and
Johannes Huebl. This city is simply a way of life,
and our suitcases always make a statement, so
we feel very much at home in the Big Apple. But
a number of impressive RIMOWA stores were also
opened in Asia, and we can be very proud of these.
In the world of music, the 6th FEM festival was
held in several cities in Germany and Brazil, further
strengthening the bond between these two
countries on a cultural level.
Looking forward to next year, we give you a glimpse
behind the scenes at the photo shoot for our new
campaign with Alessandra Ambrosio and Johannes
Huebl, which will be launched in January. Last but
not least, I would like to wish you and your families
a very merry Christmas and all the best for the New
Year!

When you work for an exclusive luggage manufacturer, travel is obviously the number-one topic. But when

your journeys are not for pleasure, but part of a series of business appointments, store openings and official
speeches, things can become a little stressful. It’s a good job that the team under CEO and company president
Dieter Morszeck is so well organised and experienced – in September they completed a miniature store opening
marathon in Asia.

Dear Readers,
In recent issues of RIMOWA INSIDE, I have written a number
of reports about the Junkers JU52 and F13 aircraft. Following
some questions from readers, I have been asked in this edition
to compare the two models.
The difference in size is immediately apparent from the photos.

Of course, these technical specifications do not compare with
those of an A320 or a Boeing 737. Nevertheless, both the Jun
kers JU52 and the F13 represent milestones in aviation history.
The most important detail of the comparison cannot be ex
plained in a table, however: while there are still eight airworthy
models of the JU52 around the world, there is not a single Jun
kers F13 that can take to the skies.
I can confirm that RIMOWA will be able to present the only
airworthy Junkers F13 in the world when the reproduction is
complete.
RIMOWA gets basketball fever
As the new ‘official supplier’,

RIMOWA
began providing suitcas
es to the German national basket
ball team in July 2014. This part
nership was agreed through the
Hamburg agency UFA Sports,
whose vice president Arndt Jawor
ski is convinced that the collabora
tion will be a success: ‘We are
pleased to gain a strong brand in
RIMOWA as a new member of the
basketball family, and we have
every confidence that this relation
ship will be profitable for both
sides.’

Putting the
fun back
into shopping…
RIMOWA and the traditional company Horstmann + Sander are
not only connected by a long and friendly business relationship;
they also share a similar history. The family business was estab
lished in 1884 and is now under the fourth generation of man
agement. Managing director Reinhard Sander met us in Hano
ver and presented the department store, which has been
extensively renovated and spans out over 2,000 sq m on four
floors. Nestled among a section on the first floor dedicated to
bags for business and leisure, the spacious RIMOWA shop-inshop system displays a nice assortment of the luggage with the
grooves. Silver aluminium cases are positioned on an imitation
baggage carousel, and a service point with its own sales equip
ment looks like a check-in desk. It is precisely this charming
style of presentation and the friendly, knowledgeable shop as
sistants that make Horstmann + Sander so special.
CAROUSEL WITH ALUMINIUM SUITCASES at Horstmann + Sander
Customers appreciate the wide range of luxury brands, but
increasingly they are also looking for face-to-face service and
advice, explains Sander. In total, 125 employees in three build
ings take care of their customers, helping to meet their needs
and answer questions. Internally, the motto of the company is
‘slowing down purchases to put the fun back into shopping’ –
a concept that is extended to the complimentary cappuccino in
the shop café after a sale has been made.
The managing director is convinced: ‘Customers are once
again looking for good service and have enough of trawling
through the Internet. Instead, they want to experience something for all the senses. The overall mixture of approaches has to
be exciting so that customers have a reason to come here. That’s
why our aim is to offer something you cannot find elsewhere.’
With these words, he is referring to a very successful special
collection of the Salsa Deluxe series that was produced five
years ago to mark the store’s 125th anniversary. ‘We chose the
colour British racing green and combined it with a champagne
lining,’ says Sander.
A SUPER ATMOSPHERE at FEM 6
When two cultures
merge…
The festival ‘Film erzählt Musik’ (FEM) is now an established tradition. This
successful German–Brazilian event took place for the sixth time in Septem
ber and October with R
IMOWA as the official organiser. A special feature
this year were the FEM live sessions, which involved headline acts Maria
Gadú and Pohlmann going on tour, even performing together in Hamburg
and Berlin.
Music was at the centre of FEM 6, which captivated the audience with a mix
ture of different styles. Brazilian samba diva Alcione and German–Brazilian
singer Bê Ignacio brought a good dose of Latin American flair to the me
tropolis on the Rhine. The highlight was a joint performance by Pohlmann
and Maria Gadú – two artists who didn’t know each other at all before FEM
but who very quickly became attuned to each other. After the concerts in
Germany, the festival continued in Rio de Janeiro and Curitiba.
To ease the wait for R
IMOWA FEM 7, we can look back on the photos of this
year’s festival and reminisce about such a lovely end to the summer, when
the cultures of Germany and Brazil came together.
THE OPENING CEREMONY for the new store
New RIMOWA store in
Stuttgart’s Breuninger
He is particularly pleased about the long-standing partnership
with RIMOWA: ‘Even as a child I used to stop and look at R
 IMOWA
suitcases in the shop window. Since then, they have achieved cult
status, and they are highly in demand not only for their innovative
features, but especially because of the design.’ And in response to
the question which suitcase model is his personal favourite, the
company director is quite clear: ‘Our British racing green, of
course! I have that suitcase in every size, and it always makes me
happy when people talk to me about it when I’m off travelling!’
Presenter Barbara Schöneberger hosted the opening of the new R
IMOWA store inside in Stuttgart’s Breuninger
department store together with Dieter Morszeck, President & CEO of R
 IMOWA, and Willy Oergel, chairman
of the management board at Breuninger. The new store stands out for its exceptional location and, as the world’s
first fully fledged RIMOWA “hard shop” in a department store, it also serves as an example to follow.
Discreetly offset by fine glass panels and placed on tailor-made, high-quality shop furniture, the entire collec
tion is presented in an extremely prominent way. The exclusive floor space measures around 130 sq m and has
been consciously separated from the traditional leather goods department. It is located on the fourth floor,
directly beneath the light dome on Karls-Passage.

English high-end department store Selfridges on Oxford

Christmas display window this year. Framed by illumi
nated sprigs of fern and stacked up next to mannequins
dressed in festive clothing, the golden aluminium suit
cases look perfect as part of the Christmas scene.

A look behind the scenes…
Perfect make-up, breathtaking outfits, the latest suitcase collection and
at the centre of it all our stars: Alessandra Ambrosio and Johannes Hue
bl are once again the faces of the RIMOWA lookbook campaign for
2015/16.
There were four days of styling, posing and shooting in New York. Pho
tographer Horst Diekgerdes and his entire team were on a tight sched
ule with a dozen scenes to prepare and perfect, and at the same time
they were being followed by a camera crew tasked with the production
of an exciting behind-the-scenes video. Also taking part in the action
was the F13 which is currently being rebuilt by RIMOWA. The new
lookbook will be published in January 2015, taking us back into the
glamorous world of 1920s Hollywood.
