Un billet,
s’il vous plait !
A year in Provence? Non.
Instead, one charming evening
under soft summer skies. The
boulevards of Paris, the gardens
of Versailles and the lavender
fields of Provence beckon as
you sip your Champagne, perhaps
visiting a charming bistro along
the way. An amuse-bouche, or a
macaron, perhaps? Mais oui.
No need for jet lag, mes amis,
they are all one hop away on the
Metro at this year’s Jewel Ball.
C’est Magnifique!
FROM OUR JEWEL BALL CHAIR
Dear Friends,
On August 8,
2015 the 69th
Annual Jewel Ball,
Magnifique, will
transport you to the
beauty and elegance
of France.
We hope you
will join us at the
always beautiful La Jolla Beach & Tennis
Club for this unforgettable evening. A
tribute to romance, fashion, and elegance,
Magnifique will feature lush gardens,
architectural beauty, and design elements
that will leave you breathless.
Most importantly, Magnifique will
celebrate our tradition of helping the
San Diego non-profit community. We are
so grateful for each of our underwriters,
donors, advertisers, vendors and Ball
guests, without whom we could not fund
the grants that drive our mission to help
support our very deserving beneficiaries.
The Jewel Ball will be the culmination of
our yearlong fundraising effort.
We thank the La Jolla Beach & Tennis
Club management and staff, who have
been so supportive during our 69 years.
Our partnership with them is the beautiful
jewel at the heart of our success.
We can’t wait to share this glorious
evening with all of you. Please join us for
Jewel Ball 2015, which we guarantee,
will be Magnifique!
Cari Massaad, Jewel Ball Chair 2015
2015 SPIRIT OF GIVING AWARD
Las Patronas is proud to give the 2015 Spirit of Giving
Award to Don Caulfield. Since 1994, Don has made
sure that Jewel Ball guests enjoy a delicious dinner,
prepared to perfection and served with style.
Originally as part of the Hyatt Regency La Jolla’s
catering team and now as an independent event consultant, Don volunteers countless hours with LP on
Don Caulfield, left, our 2015 Spirit
of Giving Award winner, with 2010 menu creation, tastings and preparation.
awardee Randy Cutting
Leading up to the Ball, Don works tirelessly to
ensure the full off-site kitchen and ballroom are set properly for efficient service and in
keeping with the Jewel Ball theme—all with a smile and light-hearted demeanor. Of
course, when Don puts on his tuxedo, he is all business, treating each guest with care
and attention until it’s time to join LP members working into the wee hours of the
morning to make sure the post-Ball clean-up goes smoothly.
Las Patronas will present Don with the Spirit of Giving Award at the Magnifique
beneficiary celebration in January 2016. We are honored to have worked with Don for
more than two decades and look forward to many years to come. Thank you Don!

LAS PATRONAS MINOR GRANT SPOTLIGHT
In addition to the Major
Beneficiaries of each year’s
Jewel Ball, Las Patronas
funds a number of Minor
Beneficiaries during the
year. These applicants
undergo the same rigorous
qualifying process but are
limited to projects seeking
capital items under $20,000.
The Autism Tree Project
Foundation (ATPF) was
created in 2003 with the
goal of giving children on
the autism spectrum a voice
while inspiring compassion
towards the parents and families of these special children.
ATPF helps thousands of
these families navigate the
very complex system of care
required for children with
Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Research has shown that
with early intervention,
diagnosis and therapy, these
children show improved
learning and skill development that will result in
reduced lifelong care.
In late 2014 Las Patronas
selected ATPF as a minor
beneficiary and awarded
them a 2014 Ford Transit
Connect XLT van. The van
will allow ATPF to conduct
their Early Intervention
Screenings at additional
sites, dramatically increasing
their reach throughout
San Diego County,
It is your generosity that
enables Las Patronas to help
the nonprofits, big and small,
that make San Diego a better
place to live every day.

Las Patronas thanks the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club,

You are truly magnifique!
FROM OUR PRESIDENT
Dear Friends,
It has truly been
my honor to serve
as President in
my seventh and
final year as an
active member of
Las Patronas. Our
all-volunteer group
of 50 talented and hard-working women
amazes me in their dedication to make a
difference and enhance the quality of life
in our community.
Since 1946, Las Patronas has funded
nearly $18 million to over 1,000 non-profit
organizations covering every corner of
our beautiful, but imperfect, San Diego
County. Ask any Las Patronas member
and they will tell you that site visits to
our grant applicants are their favorite
LP NAMED GRAND MARSHAL
part of what we do. Our worthy beneficiaries inspire us and challenge us to meet
their ever-growing needs. Grant requests
far exceed our ability to give which makes
us more determined to achieve our goals.
And we simply could not achieve what we
do without you!
We cherish the support of our underwriters, donors, advertisers, Jewel Ball
guests and Advisory members. Your generosity is the foundation of our success and for
that we are very grateful – merci beaucoup!
I look forward to welcoming you to the
69th annual Jewel Ball, Magnifique, on
Saturday, August 8, 2015, at the La Jolla
Beach & Tennis Club, when we will
celebrate your generosity and support in
classic French style!
