Robert’s Ramblings: Spiritual Health
Chaos may be the normal state of our lives, but God
wants us to be refreshed. This is the essences of the 4th
Commandment: “Remember the sabbath day and keep it
holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work. But the
seventh day is a sabbath to the LORD your God; you shall not do any
work – you, your son or your daughter, your male or female slave,
your livestock, or the alien resident in your towns. For in six days the
LORD made heaven and earth, and the sea, and all that is in them,
but rested seventh day; therefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day
and consecrated it.”
Sabbath taking allows us to connect with God and find order in
the chaos of life.
Unfortunately the tasks of our earthly existence can interfere with
the ideal of fully setting aside one day a week for a sabbath rest. For
those weeks, here are some alternate practices.

Connect with God for sabbath rest whenever you’re “given”
time; for example: a sick day, or a travel delay, or while waiting
in line at a store. Stop, breath deeply, listen for the Holy Spirit or
say a silent prayer.
Celebrate a holiday ―even Christmas― differently. Changes in a
routine can open opportunities for us to consider why the holiday
exists and how our usual practices help and hinder observance of
that underlying purpose.
Take a second breath in the midst of frustration. Ask: “God,
where are you in all this?”
Develop a Sabbath tradition with your family that offers opportunities for conversation: Discuss the sermon question during dinner. Take a long walk through your neighborhood. Enjoy family
game time.
Create a Sabbath box to keep reminders of God’s grace –a Bible,
a reading plan, a candle, a potpourri, a photograph– and in which
you might hide distractions –cell phones, keys, to do lists, … So
that whenever God provides you with a moment for reflection,
remove the reminders of God’s grace and hide your distractions.
A scented textured sachet kept in this box can incorporate smell
and touch during time set aside for Sabbath.
Make morning, midday or evening prayer a part of your daily
schedule – even if merely for five minutes.
Set aside time with family members to talk about what is causing
pressure and stress in each family member’s life.
What Sabbath practices have you found helpful?
Yours in Christ,
Robert Shaw, Pastor

We all celebrated Janice Owen’s
50th anniversary with TTPC!
Here is her note to all:
First Friday BINGO
On the First Friday of each month, the
Fellowship Committee will host a
Night of Bingo starting at 6:30 pm.
We will serve desserts, coffee and assorted cold drinks while we play
BINGO for assorted fun prizes. The
cost to play will be five dollars
($5.00) per printed game card with all
donations going towards the purchase
of the following months prizes and
also to help support the missions of
our church.
Dear Congregation and Friends of TTPC,
I could never express to You, as a congregation, and
to You, as long-time friends, and to You, as co-workers,
what Sunday’s Service meant to me and my family. The
loving care and appreciation that I felt was overwhelming.
I know that you have heard me say, “This is my
home!” and I truly feel that way. We have weathered some
storms, but together we have always prevailed because we
have continued to LOVE EACH OTHER. A wise person
taught me this philosophy: “Say Thank-You to someone
every day.” Therefore, I will continue to say thank-you every day to each one of you.
Love, Janice
Bring a wacky good luck charm and
enjoy a fun night of BINGO. Contact

Frank and Norma
Johnson!
We’re happy to have Frank and Norma at
TTPC while they are living here.
Frank was born and raised in Washington, DC
and remembers rolling Easter Eggs on the
White House lawn. He joined the Army and
went into Omaha Beach on D-Day, and happily returned to the USA via Jacksonville, FL in
1945. Norma is a Jacksonville native, and the
two met at South Jacksonville Presbyterian
Church in 1949, and they got married in 1951.
Frank and Norma are both Presbyterian Elders
which they consider one of their greatest blessings and opportunities.
They have 4 daughters, all living between here
and Hawaii! They also have eight grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren.
Frank and Norma are looking forward to traveling again after he finishes his treatments at
Moffit.
Photos are being taken directly after worship. Everyone photographed will be given
their pictures via email to keep, and the
photo directory will be posted to a secure
church website for members to use. You
can buy a printed copy of the finished directory for a minimal cost to cover printing
expenses.
Please call Mary Tisdale at 333-3919 or
Linda Thanasides at 765-3117 to schedule
an appointment if home-bound.

Summer Nights!
Join us Friday, August 5, at 6:00 PM!
Vacation Bible School was a huge
success, thanks to our church members, friends,
volunteers, and the teachers at the Weekday
School!
The lessons were taken from
the Old Testament featuring
Joseph and the events of his
very out of the ordinary life! The children learned
about forgiveness, our gifts from God, wisdom,
hope, and God gives us a family. They had fun
songs to sing, and Eric Holden and the Pastor had
roles to play each day. The church volunteers did
an absolutely wonderful job with all of their chores
and special tasks. They were good sports about
wearing costumes and interacting with the kids.
They made Egyptian
collars at VBS
Pastor Robert played a prison
guard, Eric Holden played Joseph

There are many people who are trying to get access to your money and
your bank account numbers so they
can pull money out every month. I
had a fun time looking up politicians
and their “charities.” Knowledge is
power, stay informed! Jeanne C.
We welcomed Mary and Terry Tisdale
back to TTPC!
They left for a while, but now they’re back!
Mary is a Tampa area native. She manages the Encore Boutique (ladies’ apparel and accessories consignment shop). Mary plans to use her management and food
service experience when she volunteers for the Trinity
Cafe. She also has a special passion for helping senior
adults, and is certified in Stephen’s ministry. In her spare
time she likes to work on the computer, and is utilizing
her skills as one of the compilers for our new congregational directory. You’ll often see her run the slides and
sound system at Sunday worship.
Terry was born in Wisconsin but came to rural
Tampa as a small child. He is employed by a local curb
building company and maintains the fleet of trucks and
equipment. Terry describes himself as a real mechanic
and not a parts changer only. He built a barbecue grill
from repurposed items and operates this grill at our barbecues.
They are proud parents of one daughter and a 12
year old grandson.
