Benjamin Young’s environmental technician I/GIS Specialist (2012) duties entail
the following:
 Monitoring well installations,/development and low-flow water quality sample
collection.
 Conducting due diligence and collecting field data for phase I and II ESA
investigations and Brownfield redevelopment.
 Installation of soil erosion control and management methods to reduce runoff
near state protected wetlands. Implementation of Best Management Practices,
per state regulations, to safely restore and further insure minimal environmental
impacts of construction operation and maintenance.

Resources Field Technician.

Forest Service, Forestry Sciences Laboratory:
 Led field crew in efforts to collect data for a large-scale study of silvicultural
treatments to restore wildlife habitat in even aged young-growth conifer stands.
 Planned and arranged field crew schedules, travel plans, lodging, equipment, and
supplies for remote work trips and ensured that tasks are executed efficiently, safely
and to the highest quality.
Graduate Research Assistant , Ozarks Environmental and Water Resources
Institute, Missouri State University:
 Field duties included topographic stream surveying and geomorphic assessments for
proposed restoration sites with total station, auto-level, and GPS. Responsible for
soil sample collection and processing, geochemical analysis of sediment using XRF
and helping install water quality samplers used to characterize storm water runoff
quality and Total Maximum Daily Loads. Experience with operating and calibrating
survey and data collection instruments and performing detailed surveys.
 GIS duties included raster based analysis that included watershed delineation
and flow modeling, GIS database development and management, GPS data
collection and incorporation in GIS, and aerial photograph acquisition and
interpretation. Responsible for creating, manipulating, organizing and
cartographic output of GIS data for a large scale, federally funded restoration
project.
