ještě před začátkem lázeňské sezóny, která je již v plném proudu, jsme začali připravovat mnoho novinek. Jednou z nich jsou nově zrekonstruované pokoje, jejichž interiéry se vyznačují nejen šarmem

hergerichteten Zimmer, deren Innenräume nicht nur voller Eleganz und Luxus sind, sondern sie bringen auch ein neues Farb- und

Saison steht die Gastronomie im Grandhotel Pupp unter der Leitung von Chefkoch Radek Kotlán, mit dessen kulinarischen Werken Sie

We started preparing lots of novelties still before the beginning of the new spa season which is in full swing now. One of them are renovated
rooms whose interiors distinguish themselves not only with charm and luxury but they are also bringing a new conception of colours and
materials. Try yourself how you would like staying in them and tell us your opinions, please. The gastronomy of the Grandhotel Pupp has
been under the chef Radek Kotlán´s baton since the beginning of the new season. You will certainly be satisfied with his culinary creations.
Numerous cultural and social events have been prepared for you in Karlovy Vary in the summer. The 47th International Film Festival is
going to start in just a few days. We are already full of expectations about what film stars will visit us this year. We will inform you about
the course of the festival and its novelties in our next number.

Za deset měsíců vyroste
v zadní části hotelu nový

centrem. Své první hosty přivítá v dubnu roku 2013.

Grandhotel Pupp Frau Ing. Andrea Pfeffer-Ferklová mit, dass die
Vorbereitungsarbeiten auf den Bau eines neuen Gebäudes mit einem Swimmingpool genau nach dem Zeitplan verlaufen. (Auf dem

hinteren Hotelteil ein neuer Wellness Komplex mit einem erweiterten Balneobetrieb und einem modernen Fitnesscenter. Seine erste
Gäste begrüßt man hier im April 2013.

Meeting of the European Aristocracy
Karlovy Vary belonged to the members of the European aristocracy
at the last weekend in April. Famous European noble families have
met here for the sixteenth time to revive the nobleness of spa life.
The Saturday gala evening in the Festive Hall of the Grandhotel
Pupp, where more than 400 guests are served a carefully composed
menu, is usually an unforgettable experience for them. And
­although their programme is rich and varied, they always find time
to walk along the spa promenade together.
The Press Conference of the Grandhotel Pupp
The general manager of the Grandhotel Pupp Ing. Andrea PfefferFerklová announced during the press conference that preparatory
work for the construction of the new building with a swimming
pool continues according to schedule. (You can see her tapping the
cornerstone in the picture). A new wellness complex with an extended balneological department and a modern fitness centre will be
built in the back part of the hotel within ten months. It will welcome its first guest in the April of 2013.

Poslední dubnový víkend patřily Karlovy Vary příslušníkům evropské šlechty. Letos již pošestnácté se zde setkaly slavné evropské rody a oživily noblesu lázeňského života. Nezapomenutelným zážitkem bývá pro hosty sobotní galavečer ve Slavnostním sále Grand­
hotelu Pupp, kde se více než 400 hostům servíruje pečlivě vybrané
menu. I když hosté mají karlovarský program bohatý, ­najdou si

První květnový víkend se po celých Karlových Varech nesl ve znamení oslav. Bohatý program nabídl nejen koncerty, divadelní představení, porcelánové trhy, ale také již čtvrtým rokem Food Festival
Karlovy Vary, který hostům umožňuje nahlédnout zblízka pod
pokličku mistrů kuchařského umění, místních šéfkuchařů.
Karlovarské hotely se jako obvykle v tomto období těší velké oblibě
a nezadají si v obsazenosti s jinými slavnými evropskými destinacemi. Nenechte si pobyt v příštím roce ujít.

Das erste Wochenende im Mai war in Karlsbad im Zeichen der
Feier zur Kursaisoneröffnung. Ein reiches Programm bot nicht nur
Konzerte, Theatervorstellungen, einen Porzellanmarkt, sondern
bereits zum vierten Mal auch das Food Festival Karlovy Vary, das

den Gästen ermöglicht, hautnah die Kochkunst der hiesigen
Chefköche zu erleben. Die Karlsbader Hotels sind wie üblich zu
dieser Zeit besetzt und können sich in Beliebtheit mit den anderen
berühmten europäischen Adressen vergleichen. Lassen sie sich den
Aufenthalt im nächsten Jahr nicht entgehen.
Schreurs erklangen schöne Melodien von verschiedenen Genres,
wie z. B. Paso Doble von Marian Puio Yaga, Lord of the Dance von
Ronan Hartiman, Bolero von Maurice Ravel und weitere. Das sechzig Mann starke Orchester spielte in der Mühlbrunnkolonnade auf
vollen Touren und es gewann mit seinem Auftritt das Publikum.
The First Concert of This Year’s Spa Season
The celebrations of the opening of the new spa season in Karlovy
Vary started with an exceptional concert of the orchestra Koninklijke
Harmonie Roermond from Netherland. Beautiful melodies of
­different genres e.g. Paso Doble by Marian Puio Yaga, Lord of the
Dance by Ronan Hartiman, Bolero by Maurice Ravel and others
sounded under Theo Schreurs´s baton. The orchestra consisting of
sixty members played in the Mill Colonnade at full stretch and
captivated the audience completely.
Spa Season 2012 Opened
The first May weekend was held in the sign of celebrations in all
Karlovy Vary. A varied programme offered not only concerts, theatre
performances or a porcelain festival but also the fourth year of the
Food Festival Karlovy Vary which makes it possible for visitors to
uncover the secrets of masters of cooking skill, local chefs. Karlovy
Vary enjoys great popularity at this time of the year, as usual, and can
be compared with other famous European destinations as far as occupancy is concerned. Do not miss your stay next year.
První koncert letošní lázeňské sezóny
Oslavy zahájení lázeňské sezóny v Karlových Varech otevřel výjimečným koncertem orchestr Koninklijke Harmonie Roermond
z Nizozemska. Pod taktovkou Theo Schreurse zazněly krásné melodie různých žánrů, jako např. Paso Doble od Mariana Puio Yagy,
Lord of the Dance Ronana Hartimana, Bolero Maurice Ravela
a další. Šedesátičlenný orchestr hrál v prostorách Mlýnské kolonády naplno a publikum si svým vystoupením zcela získal.

Přípravy na Mezinárodní filmový festival
47. mezinárodní filmový festival Karlovy Vary bude slavnostně zahájen v pátek 29. června. Na festivalové organizaci a filmovém
programu pracuje po celý rok početný tým v čele s prezidentem
Jiřím Bartoškou. Festival se tak může pyšnit vysokým kreditem
mezi evropskými i americkými filmovými festivaly. Grandhotel
Pupp je vždy jedním z partnerských hotelů festivalu a těší se na
setkání s dalšími festivalovými hosty a filmovými hvězdami. (Na

Vorbereitungen auf das Internationale Filmfestival
Das 47. Internationale Filmfestival Karlsbad wird feierlich am
Freitag den 29. Juni eröffnet. An der Festivalorganisation und dem
Filmprogramm arbeitet das ganze Jahr über ein zahlenmäßiges
Team angeführt von dem Festivalpräsidenten Jiří Bartoška. Das
Festival genießt somit unter den europäischen und amerikanischen
Filmfestivals ein hohes Ansehen. Das Grandhotel Pupp ist immer
eines der Partnerhotels des Festivals und es freut sich, weitere

Preparations for the International Film Festival

Karlovy Vary will be held on Friday the 29th June. A numerous team
headed by President Jiří Bartoška have been working on the organization of the festival all year. The festival can boast a great credit among
other European and American film
festivals. The Grandhotel Pupp is
always one of partner hotels of the
festival and is looking forward to meeting other festival guests and film stars.

vyzdvihnout bych chtěl především lesy kolem Grandhotelu Pupp.
Obzvláště procházky podzimním lesem z jedné vyhlídky na druhou až k Lesní pobožnosti císařovny Sissi jsou pro mě zcela výjimečné. Jak jinak by tomu mohlo být u rodilého Rakušana.
Jaký máte vztah ke Grandhotelu Pupp?
První spojení s Grandhotelem Pupp jsem navázal už v roce 1989,
kdy jsem byl v Karlových Varech vůbec poprvé. Bylo to v době, kdy
vedení kasina v Lázních I převzala společnost Casinos Austria
International. Tak jako opravdová láska nikdy neztratí svou romantiku a krásu, neztratí ji nikdy ani Grandhotel Pupp. Můj vztah ke
Grandhotelu Pupp je nejen obchodní, ale především osobní: spojení s krásou minulosti.
Co byste vzkázal našim čtenářům?
Karlovy Vary je místo znovuzrozené energie. Přijeďte zapomenout
na všední starosti, stres a shon. Nechte se obklopit krásou minulých
věků a načerpejte energii. Budete se cítit šťastni stejně jako já, a nemá to nic společného s ruletou ani Black Jackem. (Pan Schwings­
handl se směje.)
Werner Schwingshandl se narodil v roce 1966 v tyrolském
Innsbrucku. Po studiích MBA absolvoval studium společenských
věd na univerzitě Open University of Milton Keynes v Anglii. Pro
společnost Casinos Austria A.G. začal pracovat před více než 20 lety a v listopadu 2010 se stal ředitelem kasina Pupp Casino Club.
Svoji kariéru v zábavním průmyslu odstartoval Werner Schwings­
handl u dnes světově největšího poskytovatele okružních plaveb rejdařství Royal Caribbean Cruise Line. Ze svých dosavadních
úspě­chů si nejvíce cení vybudování a zahájení provozu Grand
Casino Bern v hlavním městě Švýcarska v roce 2002, tehdy na pozici ředitele technického provozu.
Jak se Vám žije v Karlových Varech?
Díky častým pobytům v zahraničí jsem poznal mnoho míst a kultur. Poznávat kultury a lidi je však jen jeden pohled, druhý je být
akceptován a přijímán. Osobně mohu bez výjimky potvrdit, že se
mi od všech lidí a obchodních partnerů v Karlových Varech dostalo vždy přátelského jednání a pomoci. Přestože zde nejsem na lázeňském pobytu, je to místo, které mě inspiruje pro každodenní
výzvy v pozici manažera Pupp Casino Clubu a které mi dodává
potřebnou energii. Cítím se zde v tom nejopravdovějším smyslu
slova příjemně.
Máte ve městě své oblíbené místo?
To je obtížná otázka, protože ve městě je mnoho krásných míst. Ale

Werner Schwingshandl wurde 1966 in Innsbruck der Hauptstadt
von Tirol geboren. Er absolvierte das Masterstudium in Business
Administration und das Master of Science Studium in Human
Ressource Management an der Open University of Milton Keynes
in England. Seit mehr als 20 Jahren arbeitet er für Casinos Austria
A.G. und seit November 2010 als Casino Direktor im Pupp Casino
Club. Seine Karriere in der Casino und Entertainment Industrie
begann Herr Schwingshandl auf dem heute weltgrößten Betreiber
von Kreuzfahrtschiffen, der Reederei Royal Caribbean Cruise
Line. Unter anderen zählte der Aufbau und die Inbetriebnahme
des Grand Casino Bern in der Hauptstadt der Schweiz 2002, als
Chief Technical Officer, zu seinen größten Herausforderungen
und Erfolge.
Wie lebt es sich in Karlsbad?
Durch meine mehrjährigen Aufenthalte im Ausland lernte ich viele
Orte und Kulturen kennen. Kulturen und Menschen kennen zu
lernen ist eine Seite die andere Seite ist akzeptiert und aufgenommen zu werden. Persönlich kann ich ausnahmslos behaupten, dass
ich von allen Menschen und Geschäftspartnern in Karlsbad,
freundschaftlich und hilfsbereit aufgenommen wurde. Auch wenn

ich meine Zeit in Karlsbad nicht als Kurgast verbringe, sondern als
Geschäftsführer des Pupp Casino Club, ist es ein Ort wo ich für die
täglichen Herausforderungen eines modernen Managerlebens
krea­tiv inspiriert werde und meine Batterien rasch aufladen kann.
Hier fühle ich mich im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes rundum wohl.
Haben Sie in der Stadt einen Lieblingsort?
Das ist eine schwierige Frage. Die Stadt bietet für mich sehr viele
schöne Plätze. Ganz besonders hervorheben möchte ich allerdings
die Wälder in die man vom Grandhotel Pupp aus gelangt. Besonders
die Wanderungen im Herbstwald von den verschiedenen Aus­
sichts­punkten bis hin zur Waldandacht der Kaiserin Sissi. Wie
kann es auch anders sein komme ich doch aus Österreich.
Welche Beziehung haben Sie zum Grandhotel Pupp?
Meine Beziehung zum Grandhotel Pupp begann schon im Jahre
1989 wo ich mich das erste Mal in Karlsbad befand. Es war zur Zeit
wo Casinos Austria International das Casino im Bad I leitete.
Grandhotel Pupp hat wie die Liebe zweier Menschen seine Ro­man­
tik und Schönheit nie verloren und wird sie nie verlieren. Meine
Beziehung zum Grandhotel Pupp ist also nicht nur eine geschäftliche sondern eine Liaison mit der Schönheit der Vergan­genheit.
Was würden sie unseren Lesern ausrichten?
Karlsbad ist ein Ort der regenerierenden Energie. Lassen sie den
Alltag und alles störende hinter sich. Tauchen sie in die Schönheit
der Vergangenheit ein und nehmen Sie die Energie in sich auf.
Fühlen Sie sich glücklich, so wie ich es tue und das hat nicht mit
Roulette oder Black Jack zu tun. (Herr Schwingshandl lacht.)

WITH THE DIRECTOR OF PUPP CASINO CLUB
Werner Schwingshandl was born in 1966 in Innsbruck, the capital
of Tyrol. He completed a master’s degree in Business Administration
and a Master of Science degree in Human Resource Management at
the Open University of Milton Keynes in England. For more than
20 years he has worked for Casinos Austria AG and since November
2010 as director of Pupp Casino Club. His career in the casino and
entertainment industries began Mr. Schwingshandl on board of the
world’s largest operator of cruise ship, the Royal Caribbean Cruise
Line. Among others, the construction and opening of the Grand
Casino Bern, in the capital of Switzerland in 2002, as Chief
Technical Officer, were his greatest challenges and successes.
How do you like living in Karlovy Vary?
Through several years abroad I met a lot of places people and cultures. To get to know people and cultures is one thing to become
accepted and respected another. Personally, I can say without exception that I got friendly and helpful accepted by all people and
business partners in Karlovy Vary. As Karlovy Vary is my place
where I work and not live like a spa visitor who takes treatments,
I still have to say that as a manager of the Pupp Casino Club with
all the daily challenges of managing an opera­tion it’s my place whe-

re I am creative inspired, and where I can quickly recharge my
batteries. Here, I feel in the truest sense prosperous.
Have you got a favorite place in town?
Well this is a difficult question for me, as there are so many beautiful places for me. But one I have to mention in special and that’s the
hill behind the Grandhotel Pupp. In particular the walk through
the leave forest, from one observation point to the next one, until
I reach Lesní pobožnost, the spiritual place of the Austrian Empress
Sissi. So how could it be different as I am from Austria.
And what is your relationship to the Grandhotel Pupp?
My relationship to the Grand Hotel Pupp began in 1989 where
I was the first time in Karlovy Vary. It was at the time where
Casinos Austria International started the first Casino operation in
the Bath I. I can say, that the Grandhotel Pupp, is for me like an
everlasting romantic love story. In other words my relationship to
the Grandhotel Pupp is not just a business but an affair with the
beauty of the past.
What would are your recommendations for our readers?
Karlovy Vary is a place of regenerative energy. Let your everyday
life and all state of the art high-tech equipment behind you. Dip
into Karlovy Varies beauty of the past, and absorb the everlasting
energy of this beautiful place. Feel prosperous and happy, like I do

Filmové role
Grandhotelu Pupp
Grandhotel Pupp je hotel, který filmové celebrity nejen hostí, ale
sám filmové role dostává. Po éře českých filmů v 70. letech 20. století (Svatba s podmínkou, Pan Tau, Vrchní, prchni, Rozpaky kuchaře Svatopluka, Náhrdelník a další) si jednu větší roli zahrál
Slavnostní sál Grandhotelu Pupp v romantickém filmu Prsten
s Nastassjou Kinski a Michaelem Yorkem v hlavních rolích. V roce
2003 následovala akční komedie Šanghajští rytíři. V ní Jackie Chan
a Owen Wilson předvádějí své hrdinské kousky v Zrcadlovém sále
a Grandrestaurantu.
Ústřední role se Grandhotel Pupp dočkal v roce 2005 při natáčení
americké komedie Poslední prázdniny. Filmový příběh sem přes
oceán zavál hereckou hvězdu Queen Latifah za splněním snu, za
setkáním s jejím kuchařským idolem v podání Gérarda Depardieu.
Grandhotel Pupp se ukázal ve své zatím nejslavnější filmové roli
hotelu Splendide v roce 2006. Do hotelu přijel sám James Bond.

Při natáčení životopisného dramatu o Edith Piaf se filmaři opět
vrátili do Grandhotelu Pupp a Slavnostní sál se objevuje hned v prvních záběrech filmu. Další epizodní roli, tentokrát z Malé dvorany,
najdeme v seriálu Philanthropist. Aktuálně stojí za zmínku umístění
akční scény v parku před Grandhotelem Pupp a budovou Lázní I
v prvním dílu nové akční série Missing s Ashley Judd v hlavní roli.

DIE FILMROLLEN DES GRANDHOTELS PUPP
Das Grandhotel Pupp ist nicht nur ein Hotel, in dem die Filmstars
wohnen, sondern es bekommt auch selbst einige Filmrollen. Nach
der Ära der tschechischen Filme in den 70er Jahren des 20. Jahr­
hunderts (Svatba s podmínkou, Pan Tau, Vrchní, prchni, Rozpaky
kuchaře Svatopluka, Náhrdelník und andere) spielte der Festsaal
vom Grandhotel Pupp eine größere Rolle in dem romantischen
Film Der Ring aus Stein mit Nastassja Kinski und Michael York in
den Hauptrollen. Im Jahre 2003 folgte die Actionkomödie Shanghai
Knights, in der Jackie Chan und Owen Wilson ihr Können im
Spiegelsaal und im Grandrestaurant zeigten.
Eine wichtige Rolle spielte das Grandhotel Pupp im Jahre 2005
während der Dreharbeiten der amerikanischen Komödie Noch
einmal Ferien. In der Filmgeschichte wurde über den Ozean hierher
der Filmstar Queen Latifah verweht, um sich ihren Traum zu erfüllen, ihr Kochidol dargestellt von Gérard Depardieu zu treffen.
Das Grandhotel Pupp zeigte sich in seiner bisher berühmtesten
Filmrolle des Hotels Splendide im Jahre 2006. Ins Hotel kam James
Bond persönlich. Die luxuriösen Autos, eine geheimnisvolle BondAtmosphäre, ein schönes Bond Girl und das Grandhotel Pupp
glänzten in dem 21. Bondfilm Casino Royale.
Während der Dreharbeiten des biografischen Dramas über Edith
Piaf kehrten die Filmemacher wieder ins Grandhotel Pupp zurück
und der Festsaal erschien gleich in den ersten Filmaufnahmen. Eine
weitere Episodenrolle, diesmal aus Malá dvorana, findet man in der
Serie Philanthropist. Erwähnenswert ist derzeitig eine Actionszene
in dem ersten Teil der neuen Actionserie Missing mit Ashley Judd
in der Hauptrolle, die sich im Park vor dem Grandhotel Pupp und
dem Bad I abspielt.

with Nastassja Kinski and Michael York playing the main parts.
The action comedy Shanghai Knights followed in 2003. Jackie
Chan and Owen Wilson performed their heroic deeds in the
Mirror Hall and the Grandrestaurant in it. The leading part was
played by the Grandhotel Pupp in 2005 when the American comedy Last Holiday was being shot. The film story brought the star Queen
Latifah across the ocean so that she could make her dream true – the
dream was meeting her idol, a cook played by Gérard Depardieu.
The most famous part of the Grandhotel Pupp has been the one
of the Hotel Splendide in 2006. James Bond himself came to the
hotel. Luxury cars, the mysterious Bond atmosphere, a beautiful
Bond girl and the Grandhotel Pupp appeared in the 21st Bond
film Casino Royale.
When the biographical drama about Edith Piaf was being made,
film makers returned to the Grandhotel Pupp and the Festive Hall
appears in the very first scenes of the film. Another minor part, this
time from the Small Hall, can be found in the series Philanthropist.
Topically we should mention an action scene in the park in front of
the Grandhotel Pupp and Spa Building I in the first part of the new
action series Missing with Ashley Judd in the main part.

Beethovenovy dny
Věhlas Beethovenových dnů, které na srpen chystají karlovarští
rotariáni ve spolupráci s Karlovarským symfonickým orchestrem,
Galerií umění, Grandhotelem Pupp a městem Karlovy Vary, se šíří
i v zahraničí. Svou účast na slavnosti dosud potvrdili rotariáni
z Německa, Rakouska a Slovenska. Většina účastníků také přispěla
na obnovu reliéfů Beethovenova pomníku nemalými finančními
částkami. Reliéfy budou péčí karlovarských rotariánů odhaleny
4. srpna 2012. Očekávají se i hosté z Badenu u Vídně, v jehož prospěch Beethoven uspořádal po tamějším požáru v roce 1812
v Karlových Varech koncert.
Po dvou stech letech bude Beethovenův benefiční koncert zopakován 4. srpna 2012 s původním programem.

Das Festival Beethovens Tage
Der Ruhm der Beethovens Tage, die die Karlsbader Rotarianer in
Zusammenarbeit mit dem Karlsbader Symphonieorchester, der
Kunstgalerie, dem Grandhotel Pupp und der Stadt Karlsbad für
August vorbereiten, breitet sich nicht nur durch die Tschechische
Republik, sondern auch durch Europa. Ihre Teilnahme an der Feier
bestätigten bis jetzt die Rotarianer aus Deutschland, Österreich
OFFERS
und der Slowakei. Die meisten Rotarianer trugen auch ziemlich
grosse Geldsummen zu der Renovierung der Reliefe des BeethovenDenkmals bei. Dank den Karlsbader Rotarianern werden die
Reliefe am 4. August 2012 enthüllt werden. Man erwartet auch
Besucher aus Baden bei Wien, die Stadt für die Beethoven ein
Konzert in Karlsbad organisierte, nachdem sie ein Brand im Jahre
1812 zerstört hatte. Nach 200 Jahren wird Beethovens Benefizkonzert
einschliesslich des ursprünglichen Programms wiederholt werden.

Cukernatá směs se ochladí na 22-24 °C a pomocí kvasinek se cukr
mění na alkohol. Tento proces probíhá převážně v dřevěných
kvasných kádích o obsahu až 700 hl (wash backs), což trvá dva až
tři dny. Výsledkem kvašení je přeměna sladiny na slabý alkoholový
roztok podobný pivu – zkvašený rmut (wash, beer), přičemž
anglický název lze lépe přeložit jako „břečka“.
Každá palírna má své druhy kvasinek (palírenské nebo pivovarské),
které si pěstuje. Jejich druh pečlivě tají - jsou pro každou palírnu
charakteristické. Obrovské kvasné kádě jsou zhotovovány
z oregonské borovice, sibiřského modřínu nebo v poslední době
také z nerez oceli. Nejmenší káď mají v Edradour (10 hl), největší
v Tamnavulin (více jak 700 hl).
3. Destilace
Získaná tekutina obsahující 6-9 % alkoholu prochází dvěma fázemi
destilace, kterou řídí stillman. V první fázi (singling still, wash still)
se kotle zahřejí těsně pod bod varu vody, a tím se oddělí alkohol
od zbytku tekutiny, kvasinek a nefermentovaných částí. Páry se
ochladí, zkondenzují a vzniká nízkoprocentní surový destilát - low
wines s 20-30 % alkoholu. Ve druhé fázi jde ochlazený alkohol do
dalšího, zpravidla menšího destilačního přístroje (doubling still,
spirit still). Odtud prochází přes chlazení do tzv. alkoholového
trezoru na měření množství. Při vlastní destilaci se používá vždy jen
střední frakce (heart of the run či middlecut), která má správnou sílu
a jakost. Hlavním úkolem odborníka je rozpoznat s citem a erudicí
správný okamžik odčerpání nejlepšího dílu destilátu, který pak je
určující pro kvalitu whisky. Jen toto jádro je posléze určeno pro
zrání v sudech.
Začátek - úkap (foreshots) a konec - dokap (feinst) obsahují některé
nežádoucí příměsi a přidávají se k následující várce, se kterou jsou
promíchány a připraveny k nové destilaci. Destilační přístroje
mají různou velikost - od objemu 40 hl v Edradour až po 300 hl
v Glenfarclas.
Malt whisky se destiluje v konečné fázi s 65-80 % alkoholu, tzv. baby
whisky, obilná až s 94 %. Podle zákona je maximum 94,8 % alkoholu,

před zráním v sudech se však v zájmu lepší kvality procesu zrání
oba druhy ředí na cca 64 %. Z vnějšího pohledu celý tento proces
není příliš produktivní – vypálená whisky tvoří zhruba čtvrtinu
z toho, co jsme začali zpracovávat.
Skotská malt whisky se běžně pálí 2x, někde tzv. 2,5x, kdy část
produkce je pálena potřetí pro zjemnění (Ardbeg, Benrinnes,
Springbank) a skutečně trojnásobná destilace dnes probíhá jen
v Auchentoshan, před uzavřením i v Rosebank. Kdysi se také na
některých ostrovech pálilo dokonce 4x, aby ostrovní whisky nebyla
tak těžká. O totéž se nyní pokoušejí u části produkce v palírně
Bruichladdich.
U obilné whisky (grain) probíhá destilace kontinuálně ve 2 obřích
kolonách, dělicí a rektifikační. Většina grain whisky se pálí 2x,
pouze v nejmodernější palírně Girvan je tento proces trojnásobný.
Všeobecně se traduje, že při destilaci musí docházet ke kontaktu
whisky s mědí (odstraňující nežádoucí síru), jinak by konečný
produkt nebyl dokonalý. Lapidárně to vyjádřil Jim Murray: „Čím
více se lihovina dostává do kontaktu s mědí, tím je výsledný produkt
chuťově bohatší a těžší.“

Die zuckerhaltige Masse wird auf 22-24 °C abgekühlt und der
Zucker wird mithilfe der Hefe in Alkohol umgewandelt. Dieser
Prozess dauert zwei bis drei Tage und verläuft meistens in hölzernen
Gärfässern (wash backs), die ein Volumen von bis zu 700 hl haben.
Das Resultat der Gärung ist die Umwandlung von Malz zu einer
leicht alkoholhaltigen Flüssigkeit, dem Bier ähnlich – der gegärten
Würze (wash, beer), wobei sich die englische Benennung besser als
„Brühe“ übersetzen lässt.
Jede Brennerei hat ihre Hefesorten (Brennerei- oder Brauereihefen),
die sie kultiviert. Ihre Art wird sorgfältig geheim gehalten - sie sind
für jede Brennerei charakteristisch. Die riesigen Gärfässer sind aus
der Oregon-Kiefer, der Sibirischen Lärche oder in letzter Zeit auch
aus dem rostfreien Stahl hergestellt. Das kleinste Fass haben sie in
Edradour (10 hl), das größte in Tamnavulin (mehr als 700 hl).
3. Die Destillation
Die gewonnene Flüssigkeit mit einem Alkoholinhalt von 6 - 9 %
wird in zwei Phasen destilliert. Die Destillation leitet der stillman.
In der ersten Phase (singling still, wash still) werden die Kessel fast
zum Kochpunkt des Wassers erhitzt, somit wird der Alkohol von
dem Rest der Flüssigkeit, der Hefen und der nicht fermentierten
Teile getrennt. Die Dämpfe werden abgekühlt, sie kondensieren
und es entsteht ein niedrigprozentiges Rohdestillat - low wines
mit 20 – 30 % Alkohol. In der zweiten Phase wird der abgekühlte
Alkohol in ein weiteres, in der Regel kleineres Destillationsgerät
geleitet (doubling still, spirit still). Von hier aus wird er abgekühlt
in einen sog. Alkoholtresor geleitet, um die Menge zu messen.
Während der eigenen Destillation wird nur die mittlere Fraktion
genutzt (heart of the run oder middlecut), die die richtige Stärke
und Qualität hat. Die wichtigste Aufgabe des Experten ist es, mit
Gefühl und Erfahrung zu erkennen, wann der richtige Augenblick
zur Abschöpfung des besten Teils des Destillats ist. Dieser bestimmt
dann die Whiskyqualität. Nur dieser Kern ist später zur Reife in den
Fässern bestimmt.
Der Anfang – der Vorlauf (foreshots) und das Ende – der Nachlauf
(feinst) beinhalten manche unerwünschte Zusätze und man gibt
sie zum folgenden Gebräu. Sie werden damit vermischt und zu
einer neuen Destillation vorbereitet. Die Destillationsgeräte haben
verschiedene Größen – von einem Inhalt von 40 hl in Edradour bis
zu 300 hl in Glenfarclas.
Der Malt Whisky wird in der letzten Phase mit 65-80 % Alkohol
destilliert, der sog. baby whisky, der Getreidewhisky bis mit 94 %.
Laut Gesetz ist der Höchstwert 94,8 % Alkohol, vor der Reifung
in den Fässern werden aber wegen der besseren Qualität des
Reifungsprozesses die beiden Sorten auf circa 64 % verdünnt. Aus
der äußeren Sicht ist dieser ganze Prozess nicht sehr produktiv –
der gebrannte Whisky bildet ungefähr ein Viertel davon, was man
verarbeiten begann.
Der Schottische Malt Whisky wird gewöhnlich 2x, irgendwo sog.
2,5x gebrannt, wo ein Teil der Produktion zum dritten Mal zur
Verfeinerung gebrannt wird (Ardbeg, Benrinnes, Springbank). Die
wahre dreifache Destillation verläuft heute nur in Auchentoshan, vor
der Schließung auch in Rosebank. Einst wurde sogar auf manchen
Inseln 4x gebrannt, damit der Insel Whisky nicht so schwer ist.
Dasselbe versucht man nun an einem Teil der Produktion in der
Brennerei Bruichladdich.
Bei dem Getreidewhisky (grain) verläuft die Destillation andauernd
in zwei riesigen Kolonnen, in der Trenn- und Rektifikationskolonne.
Die meisten grain Whiskys werden zwei Mal gebrannt, nur in der
modernsten Brennerei Girvan drei Mal.
Es ist allgemein bekannt, dass es während der Destillation zum
Kontakt des Whiskys mit Kupfer (es beseitigt den unerwünschten
Schwefel) kommen muss, sonst wäre das Endprodukt nicht voll­
kommen. Prägnant äußerte es Jim Murray: „Je mehr das Destillat
in den Kontakt mit Kupfer kommt, desto reicher und schwerer ist
das Endprodukt im Geschmack.“

The sugary liquid is cooled to 22 – 24 °C and yeast changes sugar
into alcohol. This process takes place prevailingly in special wooden
containers (wash backs) whose volume is up to 700 hl and it takes
two or three days. The result of fermentation is the transformation
of the sugary liquid into a weak alcoholic solution similar to beer –
that is why it is called beer or wash.
Each distillery uses its special sorts of yeast (distiller’s or brewer’s
yeast) which it grows. The type of yeast is kept secret – it is typical
of each distillery. Huge containers are made of Oregon pine or
Siberian larch. Lately they have started being made of stainless steel
too. The smallest wash back is in Edradour (10 hl) and the biggest
one is in Tamnavulin (more than 700 hl).
Benrinnes, Springbank) and triple distillation is carried out only
in Auchentoshan today, it had been in the Rosebank Distillary
too before it was closed down. Some distilleries on some islands
distilled whisky even four times in the past to make it less heavy.
The distillery in Bruichladdich is trying to do the same with a part
of its production nowadays.
Grain whisky is distilled continuously in two huge units. Most
grain whisky is distilled twice, only the whisky in the most modern
distillery Girvan is distilled three times.
It is said that whisky must be in contact with copper (it removes
undesirable sulphur) during the process of distillation, otherwise
the final product will not be perfect. Jim Murray expressed it briefly:
”The more the spirit is in contact with copper, the more distinctive
the taste of the final product is and the heavier it is.”

3 Distillation
The resulting liquid contains about 6-9% of alcohol and goes
through two stages of distillation which is controlled by a stillman.
The first stage includes heating the containers closely under the
boiling point which results into the separation of alcohol from
the remaining liquid, yeast and non-fermented parts. Steam gets
cool, condenses and low alcohol spirit is made. It is called low
wines and contains 20 to 30% of alcohol. In the second stage, the
cooled spirit continues into another, usually a smaller distillation
unit (doublingstill, spiritstill). From here it goes to what is called
alcohol safe through a cooling system. Its volume is measured in
the safe. Only the middle fraction (heart of the run or middlecut)
is always used in the proper distillation as it has the right strength
and quality. The specialist’s task is to use his experience and feeling
to tell the right moment when the best part of the distillate should
be drawn off because it is crucial for the quality of whisky. Only this
part of production is later used to age in barrels.
The beginning – foreshots and the end - feinst contain some
undesirable ingredients and are added to the following batch,
mixed with it and prepared for new distillation. Distillation units
are of different size – their volume can reach 40 hl like in Edradour
or 300 hl like in Glenfarclas.

is 94.8 alcohol by law, however, both sorts are diluted to about
64 % which improves the quality of the ageing process in barrels.
The whole process does not seem to be very productive from
the outside – distilled whisky creates approximately a quarter of
what you originally started to process. Scotch whisky is usually
distilled 2x, somewhere 2.5x which means that only a part of the
production is distilled for a third time to make it finer (Ardbeg,

Již šestý představitel agenta 007, Daniel Craig, patří k významným
hostům Grandhotelu Pupp.
Narodil se v roce 1968 a své dětství strávil v Liverpoolu. Vystudoval
prestižní školu Guildhale School of Music and Drama. V roce 1992
se oženil se skotskou herečkou F. Loudon, se kterou má dceru Ellu.
Již v roce 1998 získal cenu za nejlepší herecký výkon ve filmu Láska
prokletá (Love Is the Devil) na filmovém festivalu v Edinburgu.
Ve stejném roce se mihl v historickém dramatu Královna Alžběta
(Elizabeth). Následovala série záporných rolí: po boku A. Jolie
ve filmu Lara Croft, po boku T. Hankse v roli zkaženého syna
P. Newmana ve snímku Cesta do záhuby (Road to Perdition), v roce
2004 přišla hlavní role ve filmu Po krk v extázi (Layer Cake), kde
ztvárnil drogového překupníka s takovou nonšalancí, že se rázem
ocitl mezi hereckou elitou. S. Spielberg ho v r. 2005 obsadil do role
jednoho z atentátníků v dramatu Mnichov (Munich). V roce 2006
přispěl k oživení žánru bondovek v Casinu Royale, kde jako nový
Bond získal velké sympatie. Dvojnásobná spolupráce ho čekala
s N. Kidman - první ve fantasy z r. 2007 Zlatý kompas (The Golden
Compass) a druhá ve sci-fi Invaze (The Invasion). Svůj hlas propůjčil
animované akční sci-fi Renesance. Další roli Jamese Bonda ztvárnil
Craig v roce 2008 ve filmu Quantum of Solace. Na natáčení thrilleru
Dream house v roce 2011 se seznámil se svou druhou ženou, krásnou
britskou herečkou Rachel Weisz. A v pořadí dvacátá třetí bondovka
by se měla objevit v kinech na konci roku 2012, tedy přesně 50 let
po uvedení prvního filmu, ještě se Seanem Connerym. Skyfall aneb
Bond 23 tak bude součástí 50. výročí agenta 007.
Craigův Bond se procházel také po Karlových Varech, kde se
film Casino Royale natáčel. Mnoho scén se samozřejmě odehrává
v Grandhotelu Pupp, kde slavný herec také bydlel. Možná právě ve

zu den bedeutenden Gästen vom Grandhotel Pupp.
Er wurde im Jahre 1968 geboren und seine Kindheit verbrachte
er in Liverpool. Er absolvierte die angesehene Prestigeschule
Guildhale School of Music and Drama. Im Jahre 1992 heiratete er die
schottische Schauspielerin F. Loudon, mit der er die Tochter Ella hat.
Schon im Jahre 1998 erhielt er am Filmfestival in Edinburg den Preis
für die beste schauspielerische Leistung im Film Love Is the Devil.
In demselben Jahr hatte er eine kleine Rolle in dem historischen
Drama Elizabeth. Es folgte eine Serie von Bösewicht-Rollen: an Seite
von A. Jolie im Film Lara Croft, an Seite von T. Hanks in der Rolle
des verdorbenen Sohnes von P. Newman im Film Road to Perdition,
im Jahre 2004 kam die Hauptrolle im Film Layer Cake, wo er einen
Drogenhändler mit solcher Nonchalance darstellte, dass er sofort
zu der Schauspielerelite gehörte. S. Spielberg besetzte ihn im Jahre
2005 in die Rolle eines der Attentäter im Drama München. Im Jahre
2006 trug er zur Belebung der Bondfilme in Casino Royale bei, wo
er als der neue Bond große Sympathien gewann. Zweimal arbeitete

er mit N. Kidman zusammen – zum ersten Mal im Fantasy-Film
aus dem Jahre 2007 Der Goldene Kompass und zum zweiten Mal

Science-Fiction Actionfilm Renaissance. Weitere James Bond Rolle
spielte Craig im Jahre 2008 im Film Quantum of Solace. Während
der Dreharbeiten des Thrillers Dream house im Jahre 2011 lernte er
seine zweite Frau kennen, die schöne britische Schauspielerin Rachel
Weisz. Der bereits dreiundzwanzigste Bondfilm sollte im Kino am
Ende des Jahres 2012 erscheinen, also genau 50 Jahre nach der
Vorstellung des ersten Films, noch mit Sean Connery. Skyfall oder
Bond 23 wird so zu einem Teil des 50. Jubiläums des Agenten 007.
Craigs Bond spazierte auch durch Karlsbad, wo man den Film
Casino Royale drehte. Viele Szenen spielen sich natürlich im
Grandhotel Pupp ab, wo der berühmte Schauspieler auch wohnte.

Lahodný karlovarský likér Becherovka existuje už více než dvě
století a přibližně dvě třetiny z této úctyhodné doby proudil do
světa z továrny, kterou dal roku 1867 vystavět Jan Becher (původně
psáno Johann). Dnes je zde Jan Becher Muzeum a každoročně láká
tisíce těch, kteří podlehli kouzlu Becherovky a chtějí nahlédnout do
jejího pestrého života, přivonět k její historii a poodhalit tajemství,
která ji obestírají.
V muzeu můžete i vy spatřit historické exponáty jako jsou prastaré
sudy s pestrým zdobením, skleněné křivky starých lahví i zažloutlý
papír etiket. Během prohlídky navštívíte některé z původních výrobních a sklepních prostor, zhlédnete unikátní film a ochutnáte
několik specialit z muzejního baru. Na závěr můžete navštívit prodejnu a zakoupit si za zvýhodněnou cenu Becherovku, případně
další produkty z širokého sortimentu firmy. Některé suvenýry s Be­
cherovkou spjaté jsou k dostání pouze zde.

als zweihundert Jahren und ungefähr zwei Drittel von dieser beachtlichen Zeit floss er in die Welt aus der Fabrik, die im Jahre 1867
Jan Becher (ursprünglich Johann geschrieben) erbauen ließ. Heute
ist hier das Jan Becher Museum, das alljährlich Tausende von denjenigen anlockt, die dem Zauber vom Becherovka unterlagen, und
möchten in sein buntes Leben einsehen, zu seiner Geschichte riechen und das Geheimnis entdecken, das ihn umringt.
Im Museum können auch Sie die historischen Exponate besichtigen, zum Beispiel die uralten Fässer mit bunten Verzierungen, alte
Glasflaschen sowie gelb gewordenes Papier der Etiketten. Während
der Führung besuchen Sie manche von den ursprünglichen
Herstellungs- und Kellerräumen, sie sehen einen einmaligen Film
und kosten ein paar Spezialitäten aus der Museumsbar. Zum
Schluss können Sie das Geschäft besuchen und zu einem günstigen
Preis den Becherovka oder andere Produkte aus dem reichen
Angebot der Firma kaufen. Manche Andenken mit dem Becherovka
verbunden gibt es nur hier zu erwerben.
Das Museum befindet sich auf der T. G. Masaryka Straße 57,

Jan Becher Museum
The delicious Karlovy Vary liqueur Becherovka has existed for
more than two centuries and it streamed into the world from
a factory whose construction had been initiated by Jan (originally
written Johann) Becher in 1867 for almost two thirds of this imposing time. There is Jan Becher Museum here now which
­attracts thousands of visitors every year. They have succumbed to
the charm of the Becherovka liqueur and want to get some information from its life, smell its history, and throw some light on the
mysteries it is veiled in. You can see historic exhibits in the
­museum, e.g. ancient barrels with bright decoration, glass curved
lines of old bottles or yellowed paper of labels. You will go to see
original factory ­rooms and cellars, will see a unique film and
taste some specialities from the bar of the museum. Finally you
can go to the shop and buy the Becherovka liqueur, respectively
other products from the wide assortment of the firm at advantageous prices. Some souvenirs connected with the Becherovka
factory can be bought only here.
The museum can be found in the main street –

Pomník k poctě Ludwiga van Beethovena, postavený v roce 1929,
vytvořil karlovarský rodák Hugo Uher (*1. dubna 1882). Po studiích
na keramické škole v Bechyni a Uměleckoprůmyslové škole v Praze
u významného českého sochaře prof. Suchardy pokračoval ve studiu
v Berlíně a Rudolstadtu. Ovlivnily jej také studijní cesty do Benátek
a Říma. Mezi nejvýznamnější tvůrce své doby se zařadil stavbou
mauzolea holandského generálního konzula Pohla v severočeské
Raspenavě, ještě před tím, v roce 1906, vytvořil náhrobek hoteliéra
Karla Puppa na karlovarském hřbitově a zajímavý pomník houslaře
v Lubech u Chebu. Je tvůrcem řady dalších pomníků a plastik,
z nichž sošky Finiš a Vítěz dostal anglický král George VI. jako dar
od prvního československého prezidenta T.G. Masaryka. V roce
1909 obdržel Hugo Uher cenu Spolku německých umělců v Čechách
za keramickou plastiku Sáňkař. V roce 1923 se oženil s Angel
Eberhardovou, sestřenicí karlovarského knihkupce K.H. Franka,
který ovšem byl v době nacistické okupace Československa obávaným protektorem. Přestože Hugo Uher stál celý život mimo politické dění, byl v červnu 1945 zatčen, vězněn v koncentračním táboře
v Nové Roli a posléze převezen do věznice v Praze na Pankráci, kde
v prosinci téhož roku zemřel. V poválečných protiněmeckých náladách byly z krajních pilířů pomníku L. van Beethovena odstraněny
a zničeny dva Uhrovy alegorické reliéfy.

tento čin napravit a zničená umělecká díla obnovit.

Das im Jahre 1929 gebaute Denkmal dem Komponisten Ludwig van
Beethoven zu Ehren machte Hugo Uher (geboren am 1. April 1882),
ein aus Karlsbad Gebürtiger. Nach seinen Studien auf der keramischen Schule in Bechyně und der Kunstgewerbeschule in Prag bei
dem bedeutenden tschechischen Bildhauer Professor Sucharda
setzte er seine Studien in Berlin und Rudolstadt fort. Er wurde auch
von seinen Studien­reisen nach Venedig und Rom beeinflusst. Er
reihte sich unter die bedeutendste Künstler seiner Zeit ein, nachdem
er das Mausoleum für den holländischen Generalkonsul Pohl in
nordtschechischem Raspenava gebaut hatte. Noch vorher, im Jahre
1906 hatte er das Grabmal des Hoteliers Karl Pupp auf dem Friedhof
in Karlsbad und ein interessanten Grabstein eines Geigenbauers in
Luby bei Cheb geschaffen. Er machte eine Reihe von weiteren
Grabmalen und Plastiken, von denen der englische König George
VI. die Statuetten Finish und Sieger als Geschenke vom ersten tschechoslowakischen Präsidenten T.G. Masaryk gewann. Im Jahre
1909 erhielt Hugo Uher den Preis des Vereines der deutschen
Künstler in Böhmen für seine keramische Plastik Rodler. Im Jahre
1923 heiratete er Angel Eberhard, die Kusine des Karlsbader
Buchhändlers K.H. Frank, der zur Zeit der nazistischen Okkupation
der Tschechoslowakei der gefürchtete Protektor war. Obwohl er sich
sein ganzes Leben für Politik nicht interessierte, wurde Hugo Uher
im Juni 1945 verhaftet, im Konzentrationslager in Nová Role
­gehalten und dann wurde er in das Gefängnis in Prag-Pankrác
transportiert, wo er im Dezember desselben Jahres starb. In der
antideutschen Atmosphäre nach dem Krieg wurden zwei allegorische Reliefe von Uher von Randsäulen des L. van BeethovenDenkmals beseitigt und zerstört.
Der Rotary Club Karlsbad möchte in Zusammenarbeit mit deutschen
Clubs diese Tat gutmachen und die zerstörten Kunstwerke erneuern.

THE MOST BEAUTIFUL MONUMENT TO BEETHOVEN
The monument to Ludwig van Beethoven, built in 1929, was made
by Hugo Uher, a native of Karlovy Vary (born on 1st April 1882).
After his studies at the school of ceramics in Bechyně and at the
College of Applied Arts in Prague where he was a student of the
famous Czech sculptor Professor Sucharda, he continued his studies in Berlin and Rudolstadt. He was also influenced by his study
trips to Venice and Rome. He became one of the most important
sculptors of his period after he had built the mausoleum of the
Dutch general consul Pohl in North Bohemian Raspenava. Still
before, in 1906, he had created the hotelier Karl Pupp´s tomb at the
Karlovy Vary cemetery and an inte­resting monument to a violin
maker in Luby near Cheb. He made a number of other monuments
and sculptures. The English king George VI got his statuettes
Finish and Winner as presents from the first Czechoslovakian president T.G. Masaryk. Hugo Uher was awarded the Prize of the
Union of German Artists in Bohemia for his ceramic plastic
Sledger in 1909. In 1923 he married Angel Eberhard, a cousin
of the Karlovy Vary bookseller K.H. Frank who became a feared
protector at the time of the Nazi occupation of Czechoslovakia.
Although Hugo Uher never took part in any political activities for
all his life, he was arrested in June 1945, sent to a concentration
camp in Nová Role and finally taken to the prison in PraguePankrác where he died in the December of the same year. Two allegorical reliefs by Uher were removed from the corner pillars of
the monument to Ludwig van Beethoven and destroyed in turbulent post-war years full of hatred against everything German.
The Rotary Club Karlovy Vary in cooperation with German clubs
wants to remedy this act and to restore the destroyed works of art.

Dostihové závodiště
Karlovy Vary
Již na konci 19. století vzniklo v Karlových Varech pro pobavení
lázeňských hostů dostihové závodiště, které je ojedinělou historickou památkou. Ta však i dnes, po více jak jednom století, žije čilým
sportovním i společenským životem. U zrodu závodiště stál karlovarský jezdecký klub, který spolupracoval s kluby v Praze a ve Víd­
ni. Dostihová dráha, realizovaná dle projektu vídeňského architekta Alfréda Bayera, byla slavnostně předána do užívání 30. června
1899. V roce 1939 bylo závodiště uzavřeno a sloužilo jako vojenské
cvičiště. Až Jockey Club v roce 1946 začal vracet dostihům jejich
slávu. Pro širší využití bylo v r. 2004 do areálu vhodně začleněno
9-jamkové golfové hřiště pro veřejnost. Původní secesní tribuna
dotváří unikátní lázeňskou atmosféru tohoto města.

Die Pferderennbahn Karlsbad
Bereits Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts entstand in Karlsbad zur
Unterhaltung der Kurgäste eine Pferderennbahn, die eine einmalige historische Sehenswürdigkeit ist. Sie steht jedoch auch heute,
nach mehr als einem Jahrhundert, frisch mittendrin im Sport- und
Gesellschaftsleben. Die Pferderennbahn gründete der Karlsbader
Reitklub, der mit den Klubs in Prag und Wien zusammenarbeitete.
Die Pferderennbahn, die nach dem Projekt des Wiener Architekten
Alfred Bayer errichtet wurde, wurde feierlich am 30. Juni 1899
eröffnet. Im Jahre 1939 wurde die Rennbahn geschlossen und sie
diente als Exerzierplatz. Erst im Jahre 1946 machte der Jockey Club
die Pferderennen wieder berühmt. Um das Gelände voll zu nutzen,
wurde im Jahre 2004 sehr geeignet innerhalb der Rennbahn ein
9-Loch-Golfplatz für die Öffentlichkeit errichtet. Die ursprüngliche Jugendstiltribüne vervollständiget die einmalige Kur­atmo­
sphä­re der Stadt.
Horse-racing Course in Karlovy Vary
The horse racing-course, a unique historical monument, was built
in Karlovy Vary for spa visitors´entertainment in the late 19th century. However even today, more than a century later, it is a lively
place full of social and sporting activities. The construction of the
racing course was initiated by the Karlovy Vary horse riding club
which co-operated with the clubs in Prague and Vienna. The racing
track was built from the plans of the Viennese architect Alfred
Bayer and was opened to the public on the 30th June 1899. The
racing course was closed up in the year 1939 and used as a military
area. It was the Jockey Club in 1946 that started returning the races
their fame in 1946. In 2004 a nine-hole golf course was made a part
of the horse racing course to make it more attractive for the wide
public. The original Art Nouveau grandstand helps to create the
unique spa atmosphere of this town.

Superior Plus. The rooms with a view of the spa promenade can be
found on the first floor of the Grandhotel Pupp. The all-round renovation of six rooms of this type with a distinctive designer line of
the Cubis Architecture Studio was finished in late April.
The interior is dominated by massive made-to-measure furniture
of dark colours and luxury design wallpaper with shades of gold.
