Easter Sunday 31/03/2013
ST AGNES' PARISH NEWS OUR VISION "Everything is to be oriented towards the praise and glory of God". OUR MISSION The St Agnes' Parish Community strives to make our Vision a reality by a commitment to: > holiness in the image of Christ > proclaim the good news of salvation > minister within the faith community > the service of all, particularly those in need Easter Sunday Year C 31st March, 2013 Dear Parishioners This day we celebrate the feast of hope reborn. On Good Friday we recalled the suffering and death of the Lord; to all who beheld it a disastrous end to a novel endeavour; Today, this hope was rekindled. Like the fire we lit for the Easter Vigil, this great symbol of the Easter Candle, a forceful reminder of the light of new hope emerging from the darkness of despair. It is not too much to say that we Christians are the children of hope. It underwrites our whole faith commitment, and is implanted so deeply in our souls that it colours not only our approach to our faith but indeed to our whole lives. We have seen in the Resurrection of Christ the impossible become reality, life emerge from death. We translate this into our daily lives and live in hope even when the most disastrous and hopeless situations confront us. We look in hope to that loving God who raised his son Jesus from the dead to come to our rescue. We know now that the impossible has been made possible. Christ Has Risen…Our hope, and He, will go always with us through this pilgrimage of ours. There is nothing to fear. This is the good news, that the risen Christ is in our midst right now, here in this Church. It is the good news that the Resurrection of Jesus Christ brings in that nothing can destroy us, not pain, not sorrow, not rejection, not sin, not even death itself, that in the end his kingdom will triumph. The writer, C.S. Lewis, famously wrote “One must keep on pointing out that Christianity is a statement which, if false is of no importance, and, if true is of infinite importance. The one thing it cannot be is moderately important”. At Easter, we Christians have the opportunity to strengthen our faith by recalling that it is not a leap into the dark, but a trust in the most extraordinary historical events of all, and a celebration of the forgiveness, life and hope which flow from these events.
