Annual Dinner
The Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development Authority’s Annual Dinner
and Business Meeting was held on Thursday, May 8. Keynote speaker Jim Justice
captivated the audience with his humorous yet motivating address. The evening also
featured several individuals and businesses who were honored with awards of distinction. The Citizen of the Year Award was presented to Sherry Truman for her outstanding contributions and many years of service to the prosperity and growth of
Roane County. Kate Burbank was honored with the first ever Cornerstone Award for
her exemplary service and commitment to Roane County. Several Chamber businesses were recognized and received certificates for having the distinction of being

Chamber Golf Tournament—Sat., June 21
The Roane County Chamber of Commerce we be having a Golf Tournament on Saturday, June 21. The event will take place at the Roane County Golf Club located on
Reedyville Road. Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. and a shot gun start at 9:00 a.m.
The cost to play will be $40 per individual / $160 for a foursome, which includes
green fees, cart and lunch (pulled pork BBQ, baked beans, potato salad, fruit, cake
–lunch—compliments of Roane General Hospital) and water—other beverages will be

Grand Re-Opening—Fruth Pharmacy—July 3
Fruth Pharmacy is pleased to announce a Grand Re-Opening celebration for the Spencer location to
begin July 3rd and last through July 9th. The Grand Re-Opening celebration will begin with a Ribbon
Cutting at 11:00 a.m. on July 3rd. Prizes will be given away during the week – with a grand prize of
an HDTV awarded to one lucky customer. Other prizes include a Bunn Coffeemaker, M&M Grill,
Presto Fry Daddy, an assortment of gift baskets – and more! The Mayor’s Office will be grilling out
hot dogs on Grand Re-Opening day to help celebrate. A live remote, with WVRC-FM will begin at
11:00 a.m. – with prizes to be given away on air during this time. “I welcome the public to come join
us for our Ribbon Cutting Ceremony. It’s a great time to get to visit Manager Sharon Lesher – enjoy
some refreshments, great specials, and other fun things planned for that day,” Lynne Fruth, President of Fruth Pharmacy explained. “We appreciate all the support from the City of Spencer, including Mayor Williams and his staff, the Roane County Chamber of Commerce, and many others that
will be helping us celebrate on July 3rd,” Fruth continued. Due to great demand, the Spencer location will be changing operation hours. Monday—Saturday, Store and pharmacy hours are 8:00 a.m.

Business After Hours—Chestnut Ridge Winery—July 10
Chestnut Ridge Winery will host a Chamber Business After Hours on Thursday, July 10 at their Winery located at the Chestnut Ridge Artist Colony, 15 Chestnut Ridge, Spencer beginning at 5:30 p.m.
Please join us for wine tasting, hors d’ oeuvres and a tour of their wonderful facility. This will be a
great opportunity to relax, learn about Chestnut Ridge Winery and a wonderful networking opportunity. Please rsvp by Thursday, July 3.
cMeLeadWV
The cMeLeadWV pilot program took place at Roane County High School on Wednesday, May 28 with
76 Juniors and Sophomores attending. The cMeLeadWV program, offered to High School Juniors
and Sophomores in Roane County, had a curriculum focused on leadership skills development. The
program was comprised of six sessions that walked students through team building skills, collaboration, and entrepreneur leadership challenges. Students gained an understanding of how leadership
skills can be used to build capacity in the community, lead organizations and enhance confidence in
their daily activities.

Frontier has focused on expanding broadband services in West Virginia since its July 2010 acquisition of Verizon markets in 14 states. The company has made broadband service available to
179,000 additional West Virginia households since July 2010, pushing broadband availability in
Frontier’s acquired service areas from 62 percent of households in 2010 to nearly 90 percent today. Frontier has built a middle-mile network in West Virginia that supports the growing demand for
broadband service. At the same time, the company expanded its Ethernet platform, which allows
businesses to establish high-speed communications networks that support investment, expansion

Roane County Landlords Association was formed two years and currently has approximately 20
members. The association allows the opportunity for landlords to exchange ideas about investment
properties, to build a stronger buying power, creates a referral network system and creates an avenue for members to have a close working relationship with city, county and state governments.
There goal is to become a member of the West Virginia and National Landlords Association which
would enable its members to access more knowledge and resources at a minimal cost.
Roane County Farmers Market currently has three conveniently-located Farmers’ Markets that offer
