Cub Scout Pack 437
Scouts is back in action and better than ever. This year we are redoubling our
efforts to show our young men what the Bible teaches and what being a servant
leader is all about. We want to show our scouts what it takes to be strong in our
faith in a world that seems to fall farther and farther away from God’s will.
I was reminded by the dad of one of our scouts who happens to be a pastor that God has defeated evil
already. So that while we see evil in our world, God is often able to use that for his purposes. I believe
God can use all circumstances to accomplish His Mission and I desire that Pack 437 continues to be
part of that.
This year is a going to be great. As always our goal is that Monday nights is the scouts’ favorite night
of the week and while doing that, they learn that God has called His men to be leaders and by doing so
has called us to be servants. Upcoming events include the fall family campout, rockets and movie
night. There is no better time to start than right now.

Troop 437 Gazette
“The seven stars of the big dipper are Alkaid, Mizar, Alioth, Megrez, Dubhe, Merak, and Phecda.” The trip to Fort
Davis, the McDonald Observatory, and Carlsbad Caverns was a once in a lifetime opportunity.
In March, Troop 437 packed up their gear and departed to Davis Mountains State Park that would be their home
for the next three days. This campout, the scouts would be heading to West Texas and New Mexico for an
exciting weekend of traveling through caverns and old forts to find discoveries of their own. On Thursday morning
at 7:00 a.m., the troop met at the parking lot to prepare for the ten hour drive to Davis Mountains State Park.
When they arrived, the troop unpacked, set up camp, and cooked dinner. At 6:00 a.m. the next morning, the troop
loaded the bus and departed to Fort Davis where they saw what it was like to live in a fort right after the Civil War.
Each scout earned their Junior Ranger badges by going around the whole fort answering questions. When the
troop left Fort Davis, they headed to the McDonald Observatory where they were given a tour of two large
telescopes and a presentation on the sun. Later that night, the troop returned to the observatory to participate in a
star party where they were given a chance to look through many different telescopes and see star clusters and
the planet Jupiter. After a busy day, the troop returned to Davis Mountains State Park for the night. The next
morning, they woke up and hastily departed to Carlsbad Caverns to have an amazing time hiking around in the
caverns. In two groups, the troop went down into the King’s Palace room and the big room. The big room had an
enormous, natural cross on the ceiling that was about the size of one whole football field. After a well-earned
dinner at Pizza Inn, the troop departed to Brantley Lake State Park and set up camp for the night. The next
morning, the troop ate their last breakfast of that campout together, packed up their gear, and set off on their long
journey home. The scouts returned home with fond memories of one of the troop's most exciting campouts and
many treasured memories.
But our adventures are not over. If you are interested in the scouting adventure and Troop 437 excellence, we
invite you to visit our website at www.troop437.org Thank you for reading, and please keep the troop and its
leaders in your prayers.
The RHSA Chess Club is now offering all Boy Scouts the Chess Merit Badge! Get your Scout paperwork
from your Troop leadership and attend our Chess Club or weekly classes to work on your badge (see website
for www.troop437.org for meeting dates).

I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
Where does my help come from?
My help comes from the LORD,
The Maker of heaven and earth.
He will not let your foot slip—
He who watches over you will not slumber;
Indeed, he who watches over Israel will
Neither slumber nor sleep.
The LORD watches over you—
The LORD is your shade at your right hand;
The sun will not harm you by day,
Nor the moon by night.
The LORD will keep you from all harm—
He will watch over your life;
The LORD will watch over your coming and
Going both now and forevermore.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY WITH CHILD EVANGELISM FELLOWSHIP
Teens: How are you spending your summer? As relaxing as it may be to chill at the pool or hang out with friends, what if you
chose instead to make an eternal impact in the lives of kids right where you live?! Teens and college students from around
your state are coming together to reach the boys and girls of your community and YOU can be a part of this team!
Christian Youth in Action® (CYIA) is a program designed to train you and a team of other young people in effective and
engaging ways to teach children about God. You will attend a one week training school where you will learn to present the
Gospel, counsel a child for salvation and lead a dynamic club ministry for kids. After this training, you will return to your local
community and teach clubs at various locations with a team of other young people.
If you have a heart for ministry and want to team up with other young people to reach the children in your community,
then CYIA is for you!
Just think, this summer you can:

the Gospel clearly on a child's level, counsel a child for salvation and lead a dynamic 5-Day Club ministry for kids. After this
training, teens will return to their local community and teach 5-Day Clubs. 5-Day Clubs are Bible clubs for children ages 4-12
which are held in homes, apartment complexes, parks, and various other places for about an hour a day for five consecutive
days during the summer. Exciting Christ-centered Bible lessons and true missionary stories are taught, along with memory
verses, songs, and reviews games.

Collin College Dental Hygiene Clinic
2200 W University Drive
McKinney, TX 75071
(972) 548-6535
We are a dental hygiene clinic at Collin College in McKinney. We wanted to let your homeschool group know about our
program and our dental cleanings for children and adults. We see kids (ages 5+) and adults in our clinic each Fall and Spring
semester. The dental cleanings are very thorough and are only $5 for children and $15 for adults. Since we are a teaching facility,
the appointments are very thorough and are longer than typical dental cleaning appointments. Each appointment is 3 hours long and we
do many assessments in addition to the dental cleanings. Typically for younger children, only 1 appointment is needed. As they get older
(and have most of their permanent teeth), children may take more than 1 appointment.
The cleanings include an oral cancer screening, x-rays (add’l charge), dental exam by a dentist, full mouth cleaning, fluoride
treatment and polish. We've attached a price sheet in case you would like to forward on to your members.
We are currently scheduling cleanings for March-May. We are always looking for new patients!
Please contact us if you would like any additional information.

infamous capabilities working with kids; Rhett plays in a rock band for kids on the side! Rhett’s wife Jennifer joined the team
last year, bringing with her a degree & several certifications in physical fitness and a passion for kids and their health.
Together they make one strong and fun team!
Each class (one for boys, one for girls) warms up with stretches & calisthenics, after which they play a variety of sports
including touch football, baseball, soccer, kickball, capture the flag, different versions of dodge ball, and much more.

Heritage Farmstead Museum Seeking Junior Docents!!!
Heritage Farmstead Museum (HFM) is a Museum reflecting the farm life of the Texas black land prairie
from 1891 to 1920 and is located in Plano, Texas. HFM is a premier living site interpreting what life was
like more than 100 years ago. One of only 4-5% of all museums in the country to receive the
accreditation of The American Association of Museums, HFM features four beautiful acres, several
original outbuildings, antique farm equipment, early modes of transportation, a one room schoolhouse
reproduction, livestock, wagon rides, and a stellar two story Victorian home on the original site where it
was built in 1891. The Museum is also a perfect venue for picnics and special Events. The 1900’s One
Room Schoolhouse is also available to rent for special history classes. The popularity of HFM has
created a critical need for docents (tour guides) during the weekdays for the many children tours that
have been scheduled. We are reaching out to the homeschooling community families as our Junior
Docent Program is a perfect match for homeschooling students!!
The Junior Docent Program provides:
** Hands on North Texas History Lessons

New Homeschool Choir for the Greater Dallas Area!!!
We are thrilled to announce the beginning of a homeschool choir for the
Greater Dallas area!
The Jubilate! Children's Chorus will meet on Thursdays at Waterview
Baptist Church in Richardson.
3-5 year olds will practice from 1:30-2:00p
6-16 year olds will rehearse from 2:10-3:00p*
*(Note: some of these rehearsals will be divided into groups by age;
if we have a large enough mix, we will consider separating into 2 choirs in the future.)
The Autumn session will run for 12 weeks, September 4 thru November 20. The last practice on
November 20 will be a late afternoon Dress Rehearsal, with the program occurring on the evening of
Saturday, November 22, probably around 6:00p, TBD.
The Spring session will also run 12 weeks of rehearsals, not including Spring Break, from January 22,
2015 thru April 16. Just as in the Autumn, the final practice on April 16 will be a late afternoon Dress
Rehearsal, with the program occurring on the evening of Saturday, April 18, 2015.
We are already lining up some highly skilled musicians to play with the choir for the performance, so it
should be a wonderful musical experience for your students!
Cost for the 3-5 year old choir is $55/semester; cost for the Jubilate! Chorus is $65/semester. For
families with multiple children participating, payments may be made in 3 installments if desired.
We NEED older kids! Lots of them!! Please let me know if you would like to participate ASAP, as we
need to finalize arrangements with the church, musical selections, etc.

Austin Pruitt
Private Piano Instruction
I am proud to say that I was homeschooled from 2nd grade to 12th
grade and I took classes at RHSA from 7th to 11th grade. Today I am a
professional pianist, composer, recording artist, and piano instructor. I
teach piano lessons at my private studio in University Park and I’m
currently taking new students. Several of my students attend classes at
RHSA and I’d love nothing more than to work with more homeschooled
boys and girls.
My Background:
When I was younger, after 10 years of intensive piano instruction, my interest in music began to
fade. I soon came to the realization that for years I was taught “mechanics” and not “musicality”. I was
saddened when I discovered that a vast number of students, like me, had this same void in their piano
instruction.
Fortunately, I came to fully appreciate the extraordinary dimension of music and this discovery
changed my life. I began composing piano music, which has been sold on iTunes in over 60 countries
worldwide. I also began teaching the art of playing the piano to students of all ages. For several years I
have been teaching students everything about mastering the piano - technique, proper form, chord
structure, scales, theory etc., but most importantly I help my students tap into and discover their “Inner
Mozart” so that music becomes a source of joy and fulfillment.
My mission is to instill in my students the same passion, love, and joy for the
instrument that I now have.
I strongly believe that there is what I call an “Inner Mozart" deep within all of us; and, when we
search within ourselves and learn to cultivate our intrinsic musicality, we will soon discover our true
potential as a musician.
I personally believe very strongly that developing musicianship is an absolute must for any child
and it’s never too late to start learning piano mastery.
If a student begins to lose his or her “fire” for music, then the flame slowly fades over time and
finally burns out. This is a tragedy that can be prevented. For this very reason, many students take
“supplemental” musicianship lessons from me (as well as from another teacher) so that I can help them
discover, awaken, and cultivate their musical and artistic expression so that the “dying flame” can turn
into a “raging bonfire”.
You may schedule a preliminary 45 minute lesson completely free of charge.

What Makes Our Training Unique? Our focus on critical-thinking and application. Our goal is to help
students sharpen their analytical and reasoning skills, to understand the what, why and how behind the ideas they
encounter, and solidify these skills with hands-on application at camps. Camps are taught by curriculum authors
and alumni who have trained hundreds of students in this field.
Our camps fulfill the prerequisite for students to join any NCFCA-affiliated club. The NCFCA is the 3rd largest
forensics league in the nation, and is for home-schooled students only.
"I made it to semis in Lincoln Douglas at the 2014 NC National competition (with 152 LD competitors), with my AFF case that was
based largely on what I learned at DFW Speech & Debate's summer camp! The case was undefeated in elimination rounds - I went
AFF four times in elem rounds and it won every time! THANK YOU SO MUCH DFWSD!" - Cody Dedon (LA)
