Dear Members of the Judo Community,
In June 2016 the European Judo Union together with the Croatian Judo
Federation will host a Judo Festival of unprecedented proportions in the
resort city of Poreč.
During the previous two years we have been testing the idea of a Judo
Family Camp in sunny Antalya. We have received a great deal of positive
feedback from among others, parents of young (under school age) judokas,
parents who put judogi on themselves and shared with their children
the joy and hard-work of training. In addition, Judokas, the leaders of
European Judo, participants of the OTC in Turkey, were also satisfied as
they were provided with the opportunity to spend their free time at the
seaside and on the tatami with beginners.
In Poreč 2016, apart from the camp for children and their parents and from
the OTC Going for Gold, the EJU will hold a one week education and training
camp for cadet and junior judokas featuring judo stars of international level,
and also a veterans European judo championships, participants of which will
be welcome to attend the Festival with their families.
It is my sincere hope that the EJU’s staging of the event we call the Judo
Festival will become a fine tradition for clubs and families across Europe.
I would like to encourage people involved in judo, from beginners to
masters, to plan their vacation time, corporate team building and family
weekends for the end of June 2016 and to spend it in the picturesque
seaside of Poreč, as hopefully the time spent with the family and judo
will become one of the best memories and accomplishments for every
participant of the Festival.
It is my great pleasure to wish you a warm welcome on behalf of the
Croatian Judo Federation to the first ever edition of Judo Festival
in Croatia!
I believe that all those that participated last year have good memories of
JudoFestival, however, this year the location has been changed, from Turkey
to Croatia, to the hearth of Adriatic sea, Poreč.
The Judo Festival is promotion of all judo values and dimensions all
generations, from kids to veterans.
From the comments of many visitors, we know that Poreč is an interesting
tourist destination and that something new can always be discovered. I
hope that you will be able to enjoy historical locations, rich gastronomic
offer or just enjoy Poreč’s ambiance and atmosphere of the two worlds –
Central European and Mediterranean. Croatia is hosting many international
sport events throughout the year and among them, such as IJF Grand Prix in
Zagreb, European Cup for Seniors in Dubrovnik, European Cup for Cadets in
Zagreb etc.
Therefore, I believe that Croatian Judo Federation will be able to meet all
your expectations during the competition.
My special thanks goes to all partners, sponsors and to all those who have
worked hard and with great enthusiasm to organize this Judo Festival event.
I will also like to express my gratitude to the President of EJU, Mr. Sergey
Soloveychik, for continuous support and confidence of EJU towards our
Federation.
I wish all participants a memorable stay in Poreč!

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL

in different kinds of Judo Festival programme:
•Judo Kids Camp U8 “Judo & Family”
An original form of the program that for the second time will be presented

•OTC “ Going for Gold”

JUDO KIDS CAMP U8 “Judo Family”
20-30 June 2016
OTC
The core point will be — “Family and Judo” (parents
and children till 8 years).
20-26 June 2016
The EJU Project “OTC. Going for Gold”
was launched in 2010. The main target of
the project was to help the best European
athletes in their preparations toward the
London Olympic Games.
Judo training will be undertaken as a fun activity
alongside other judo components. Parents will act as
partners and as personal coaches.
Within these two years prior to the Olympics,
around 273 judokas from 37 European judo
federations received vital support from the
EJU at 16 Olympic training camps.
It is desirable that parents will be on the tatami
wearing judogi (whilst we appreciate that this is not
always possible, we see it as desirable and we should
aspire to it).
The successful performance of European
athletes in London has encouraged the
EJU Executive Committee to continue the
programme during the next Olympic cycle and
to expand it to promising junior judoka — to
include medallists from the European and
world championships of their age group.
During scheduled activity hours we also propose:
• M
aintaining “The diary of the participants in “Judo
& Family” which will act as a record displaying the
thematic section on history, the principles, judo
etiquette, performance of creative tasks (drawing,
applications) impressions, emotions and knowledge
gained during the festival, showing growth and
development every day.
We believe that this programme will be
successful and again lead to European
athletes becoming the strongest at the
Olympic Games in Rio.
• J udo history, judo etiquette, code of the judoka,
(drawings, comments).
The Croatian Judo Federation and Poreč City
have provided the an excellent venue for this
project!
• Drawing up applications of different groups of
receptions by feet, subcollar, deduction, etc.
Code of the judoka: hieroglyphs and drawings of
qualities (one for every day in the form of a flower on
each petal).
• Drawing up a pyramid of success.
• Drawing up the general application of all participants
by the principle poch-work from works of children
and parents.
• Drawings (exhibition), the games (including and
desktop - judo fitness for mind) attached to judo
occupations.
Judo Training Camp U15

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL`S TOWN
POREČ — a city with
a thousand-year history
Poreč offers something for every taste – sports courts, restaurants, clubs, beautiful
scenery and plentiful entertainment options for children. You’ll find this and so much
more in the hotels, camps and apartments of Laguna Poreč
A true gem of the Mediterranean, Poreč preserved the charm of a small coastal town, but has all the
features and amenities of a tourist destination that will make your holiday interesting and pleasant. You
will discover concerts of classical music and jazz, folklore festivals and street art, museums and galleries as
well as countless shops and restaurants. During the tumultuous history of Poreč, the influence of different
nations and cultures interweaved in this area – Histri, Romans, Ostrogoths, Franks, Slavic peoples, Venetians,
Austrians… The precious cultural heritage can be noticed at every turn.
By taking a walk through Poreč you’ll be passing through the same streets as the old Romans a long
time ago. It was almost 2000 years ago when Poreč obtained the status of a city of the Roman Empire.
Ever since the 3rd century it has been a diocese, and the town had self-government since as early as
the 12th century. During the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, in 1861 it was pronounced the seat of the
Istrian parliament. Remains of the Roman sanctuary with temples, medieval fortifications, Romanesque,
Gothic and Baroque palaces are well worth a visit. The Euphrasian Basilica built in the 6th century, with
famous mosaics, which is protected by UNESCO holds a special place among them. Check for yourself
why the Roman patricians built their luxurious villas and celebrated the beauty of life precisely in the
Poreč area.
However, Poreč is much more than its rich history and cultural heritage. Today, Poreč and its
surroundings are a tourist mecca and a perfect holiday destination, wherever you may stay – at a nice
hotel, pleasant camping or any of the numerous comfortable apartments.
Poreč offers something for every taste – sports facilities, restaurants, night clubs, spectacular
landscapes and plenty of amenities for children. You’ll find all this, and much more, in hotels,
campsites, villas and apartments of Laguna Poreč. Have a dream holiday in Poreč, get to know Istria,
fall in love with Croatia.
