Use Quality Networks
7
•
Networking will help us achieve anything, so just do it and be ready. Let’s better
ourselves by attending conferences and webinars focused on small practice
management. Network, share, and most of all, ask questions/generate
conversation about these issues.
•
Everyone is there to help you and learn from you. I know for sure, because
without my networks and continued education, I would never be the successful
practice manager I am today.
•
My doctors are full of praise. If they have a concern and I am not sure, they look
at me and say, “Go ask PAHCOM”. Now that is a good feeling!

CMM
What is a CMM?
PAHCOM is nationally recognized as the leader
in health care management certification for
administrative professionals working in
physician practices and in various ambulatory
service centers. This Certification validates the
professional competency and relevance that
Certified Medical Managers bring to the
workplace. Operational efficiency, regulatory
compliance, and financial performance are
strengthened when PAHCOM-certified
professionals are in place.
10
CMM
Why is Certification Important?
 Validation of having earned this certification through education and
performance on the exam.
 Indication of high level competence & professional status as a leader in practice
management to employers, patients, staff and the community.
 Provides recognition of those physician practices that are managed by a CMM to
show the importance of having skilled professionals leading their offices &
safeguarding the needs of both the practice and the patients.
11
CMM
How can my office manager get certified?
•Qualifications
• Three years experience in a patient care environment
• 12 college credit hours in business/healthcare (or commensurate
experience)

Health Information Technology Certified
Manager for Physician Practice
•
HITCM-PP
What is that ???
13
PAHCOM National Advisory Board Member
HITCM-PP
• What does a 2014 Physician’s Practice
need in the way of staff?
14
HITCM-PP
• What is the one skill that each of those staff
members need to bring to the job
every day in order to
work in a medical
practice today?
15
HITCM-PP
•
Each office will need a leader, a ring leader, a champion so to speak who can
lead your team. That person is a:
HITCM-PP
Health Information Technology Certified Manager for Physician Practice
16
•
A staff member who is certified to have the knowledge regarding EHR evaluation
and selection, EHR implementation and incentives, privacy and security
regulations, HIT opportunities, HIPAA and HITECH regulations, as well as
technology standards and its components.
•
A HITCM-PP must take a 200 question test and then continue their education by
way of CEUs to maintain their certification.
EHR & MU
Electronic Health Records & Meaningful Use
• When a practice manager first
starts thinking about an EHR, the
thought process is pretty
intimidating and intense.
17
EHR & MU
• Really, do we need this, whatever “this” is.
vs.
18
EHR & MU
• How can I possibly
take on another
responsibility?
19
EHR & MU
• There is no way the doctor is going
pay for an EHR!
20
EHR & MU
• Oh great, all the office procedures
are going to have to change.
