The House
The Old Granary originally formed part of the Pembroke
Estate and as such is located in a peaceful situation. The
current owners have undertaken a comprehensive redesign
programme and have created a beautiful and imaginative
home full of light and colour with many of the rooms
enjoying the breathtaking views across the valley. The
principal rooms all face south or east and are of excellent
size with good ceiling heights. Whilst the house has a
contemporary design it exudes a traditional feel.
Of particular note is the drawing room which has a
picture window framing the view. The kitchen/breakfast
room is superb, being well equipped and designed with
an excellent range of bespoke cabinets and a 4 oven AGA.
French windows lead out to the extensive terracing and
garden. If required, the layout of the house lends itself to
being used as separate accommodation.
Situation
The Old Granary is situated in an elevated position
amongst rolling downland and open countryside
with panoramic views. On a clear day the spire
of Salisbury Cathedral is visible 10 miles away as
the crow flies. The house sits at the end of a lane
which becomes a bridleway and leads to a footpath
to the village. Ebbesbourne Wake is tucked away
in the hidden valley of the River Ebble within the
Cranborne Chase and West Wiltshire Downs Area
of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Village life centres
round the Horseshoe Inn and the parish church.
Tisbury, with its local shops, was recently named by
the Sunday Times as one of the top 30 best places
to live in the countryside. Comprehensive shopping
and recreational facilities are available in Salisbury.
The house is very well served for countryside
pursuits including bridleways and footpaths, golf at
Tollard Royal, as well as a number of local hunts and
shoots. The area is renowned for its excellent schools
including Port Regis, Clayesmore and Sandroyd, as
well as Bryanston, St Mary’s Shaftesbury and The
Godolphin School and grammar schools in Salisbury.
Outside
The Old Granary is approached through gates to
a large parking area alongside the garage/barn and
stable block. There are 5 stables, a tack room and
store. To the south of the house and with direct access
from many of the downstairs rooms lies the garden,
designed by John Brookes. In spring and summer it is
alive with lavender, roses and lupins, amongst others,
mostly in shades of white, cream, blue and yellow.
The views from the garden are spectacular and
change throughout the year with the seasons. The
small orchard area has apple, pear and cherry trees
and the heated swimming pool is sheltered within
walled terracing.
