OCTOBER 2011 – OCTOBER 2012
Welcome
Welcome to our new brochure for Winter 2011
and Spring 2012, which is packed with some
of your favourite destinations and some new
exciting tours including Portsmouth Historic
Dockyard, Ghost hunting at Makeney Hall and
much much more!
Our 10th Anniversary party was such a huge
success back in January 2011, so much so that
we have been inundated with requests to
organise a reunion party. I am pleased to
announce that on the weekend of the 21st
January 2012 we will be doing it all again!
The theme this year will be “Legends of the 20th
Century”, fancy dress will be optional and there
will be prizes for the best costumes. All fund
raising for this event will go to Karina’s Day
Charity in support of Yorkshire Cancer Research.

We are active members of
CTC. The CTC promotes
travel and tourism by
coach on behalf of some
300 members. Recent reports have revealed that travel
by coach is the most environmentally friendly way to
travel with the carbon footprint of coaches more than
five times less than flying or driving by car and even
two times less pollutant than going by train. With
continuing delays at airports, the CTC expects many
more people – including an increasing number of
young people – to op to take a coach for their short
breaks and holidays in the UK
OUR TRAVEL CLUB
CAB Executive Travel runs a travel club scheme
which costs only £20 per annum for membership.
Members receive excellent benefits such as free
days out, discounts on tours and excursions and
the chance to preview our new brochures allowing
members to book seats in advance.

DRIVERS HOURS REGULATIONS
As a result of significant changes to Drivers Hours &
Regulations, tours over 6 days in duration will now
require a full rest day for the tour driver. Most
itineraries include a free day in resort, and adequate
rest periods to and from destinations are compulsory
to meet the current EC Drivers hour’s regulations.
AIRPORT TAX & FUEL SURCHARGESS
Due to the current world economical climate, increases
to airport taxes and fuel surcharges may be applicable
on some flight and cruise departures. These charges
are calculated at the time of costing a holiday and in the
case of surcharges, will be notified to you with your
final invoice, normally 10 weeks prior to departure.

Our FREE home pick-up service on all cruise and flight
departures is as popular as ever with our clients, we

Party Rio-style at Belgium’s craziest masked ball, Dead Rat’s Ball, or Bal
du Rat Mort. The town of Ostend even celebrates this tradition with a
parade, and there is rumoured to be a clog-throwing event in the town
square. But the real energy and excitement is inside the glittering Ostend
Casino, where masked and costumed high-society guests mix with some of
the world’s hottest transvestites. Some 2,500 visitors enjoy a themed
party evening which was originally created by James Ensor over 100 years
ago and inspired by Parisian cabaret during a trip to Montmartre in 1896.
It’s a party that lasts well into the morning, and if was not for the large
glasses of locally brewed beer, you would forget you are in Belgium amid
all the cabaret glitz.

DEPARTURE DATES BETWEEN
8 JUNE 2012 & 8 OCTOBER 2012
One of the first places we fell in love with when Spanish holidays became within reach of us all, Lloret seemed to encapsulate all that was special about
this sun-baked country on the shores of the Mediterranean. The love affair has lasted, and today’s Lloret – although much larger than the fishing village
it was forty years ago – still brings a smile to faces of its legion of fans. Package holidays to Lloret de Mar offer uncomplicated, traditional fun, with the
emphasis on good value, great service and family-friendly facilities. There are plenty of cultural opportunities to uncover – the town is close to ancient
monasteries and fascinating Catalan towns – but, essentially, those seeking cheap holidays in Lloret de Mar are drawn to the resort’s blue flag beaches,
bristling with watersports and lined with tavernas.
Day 1 Join the coach at your local pickup point as we
travel To Dover for the crossing to Calais, then we
travel overnight through France and in to Spain.
Day 2 We arrive in Lloret de Mar in the morning, settle
in and relax before this evenings dinner.
Day 3 to 8 Simply relax and soak up the sun or enjoy
our excursion program.
• Included full day excursion to Barcelona. A chance to
spend a day exploring this wonderful cosmopolitan
city, with its amazing sights, brilliant bars and
restaurants, lively streets and many examples of
its unusual Gaudi architecture, including his
masterpiece ‘Sagrada Familia’. This unfinished
cathedral is simply stunning and its sheer size will
leave you amazed. There will be also free time to
wander up and do the Rambles street markets.
• Included half day scenic drive to Costa Brava. We
take a leisurely drive along the ‘Wild Coast of Spain’
to enjoy the rocky cliffs, beautiful beaches,
picturesque fishing villages and charming towns.
• Included half day excursion to a local market. We take
a short journey to one of the areas local markets with
the chance to buy freshly caught seafood, fruits and
olive oils at the traditional markets.

mountain not far from Barcelona is home to one of
the most popular pilgrimage destinations in Spain:
the Shrine of Our Lady of Montserrat. It is a major

The atmosphere is decidedly continental but without any problems of language or currency, Jersey
nevertheless has a familiar feel. The variety of places to visit and sights to enjoy is quite remarkable
given the compact size of the island. Spectacular cliffs, wide, sandy beaches and leafy country lanes
– the scenery seems to change around each bend in the road. Jersey is also an island with a proud
tradition and heritage. The main town of St Helier is a bustling centre, full of interesting shops and
plenty of places to visit. There is always a lot happening during the day and at night.
Day 1 You will be picked up from your home
address and transferred to John Lennon Airport in
Liverpool for the flight to Jersey. Upon landing in
Jersey you will be met by the hotel representative
for your free transfer from the airport to the hotel.
Day 2 – 5 or 7 Your days in Jersey are arranged
through the Modern Hotels representative on
arrival and they return every day to inform you of
trips and excursions. Day 6 or 8 After breakfast you
will be transferred to the airport on the Island for
your flight back to Liverpool where we will transfer
you back to your home address.
repeat it the following year and a tradition was
established. In the early days the floats were
mostly horse-drawn and covered in floral
decorations. The tradition was to tear a flower
off the float and throw it to a lady in the crowd.
Flowers were sometimes thrown back and hence
Battle was born. The Battle is enhanced by the
many Bands, both locally and from overseas who
join in the Parade. The day is over all too soon so
sit back and enjoy and tomorrow night you can
watch the Spectacular Moonlight Parade.
Liberation Week – 6 May 2012 Liberation Day is a
special celebration for Islanders, considered as
our very own ‘National Day’. It commences with a
Concert band performing in Liberation Square as
parades, led by marching bands and vintage
military vehicles converge in the square. The
morning’s ceremony is a very moving and poignant
reflection on the Occupation of the Island and its
liberation by British Troops on May 9th 1945 and is
hosted by the Island’s dignitaries together with
those islanders who lived through the Occupation.
It concludes with community singing and a reenactment of the actual Liberation.
Air Display – 9 September 2012 The Display itself
takes place away from the confines of the airport in
St. Aubin’s Bay on the south coast of the Island.
Over the past few years the Air Display has really
made a name for itself within the Airshow Calendar
with a wide variety of aircraft on show from many
different countries. Aircraft from Belgium, Ireland,
France, Netherlands, Russia, United Kingdom and
the United States have all featured in some way.
Organised by Jersey International Air Display
A.R.L. on behalf of the Royal Air Force Association
(Jersey) Branch as part of Battle of Britain Week.
The aim of the Display is to help raise funds for
Forces Charities.
Spring Walking Week – 12 May 2012 Experience a
feast of food and culture as you see, smell and
savour Island life. Stroll along the seaside, through
woodland, country lanes and cliff top paths, all in
the company of the Island’s most respected and
experienced walking guides, and all free of charge.
Spring walking weeks have been organised by
Jersey Tourism for the last 10 years, with all walks
featured in the programme being free of charge.
The Walking Week offers almost 40 walks to
choose from with over 1000 participants usually
take part in the Spring Walking Weeks. Walkers can
experience a different side to the island on foot,
following cliff paths and woodland trails and on
some routes private access has been granted
offering spectacular vistas that you wouldn’t
ordinarily see in a vehicle.
Tennerfest Food Festival – 22 October 2012 For
the 14th consecutive year, starting from the 1st
October, the Channel Islands can look forward to
6 weeks of great meals at fixed prices. Across
Guernsey and Jersey in 2010, the Tennerfest had
over 170 restaurants taking part, meaning diners
were once again guaranteed to find outstanding
menus and meals created from the wealth of good
food available in the islands. The Tennerfest is a
food promotion that encourages local restaurants
to create a special, all-inclusive menu that
provides the diner with more at a fixed amount.
Restaurateurs on both islands are offering menus
starting at £10 with £12.50, £15.00 and now £17.50
options. This enables the restaurants to offer a
wide and exciting selection of food during this
promotion.
Battle of Flowers – 5 August 2012 In 1902 to
celebrate the Coronation of Kind Edward VII and
Queen Alexandra, Jersey decided to hold a parade.
The event was so successful that it was decided to
