Jason Johnson and JJR #41 Team Crowned 2010 ASCS National Champions
TULSA, Oklahoma (December 12, 2010) – At the ASCS Awards banquet, Jason Johnson and the
JJR #41 team took top honors as they were crowned 2010 ASCS National Champions. For Jason, it was
his second ASCS National Championship as a driver but his first as a team owner.
The championship dream started a long time ago, probably around the same time Jason realized he
liked to drive race cars really fast on dirt. Over the years, he would get progressively better in the seat
of these ultra fast sprint cars as he continued to challenge himself and all those around him to be the
best they could be every day. But, almost a year ago something special happened in Australia.
As the last month of 2009 was coming to a close, there was still a lot of outstanding questions for the
native of Louisiana. The Shop Motorsports team he had enjoyed so much success with, winning the
2008 ASCS Championship and following it up with a runner-up finish in 2009, was getting out of the
sport. Lanny and Alan Row had been a special part of this Cajun driver’s career. While speaking with a
good friend, Alan Haynes, everything came together and the plans for 2010 became clearer. He needed
to fulfill the last piece of his dream . . . owning his own team. Jason commented in his story titled “The
Owner” that was written by Dave Argabright and published in the November 2010 edition of Sprint Car
& Midget magazine, “This is something I had always dreamed of . . . owning my own team, and controlling my own destiny”. In the few shorts months that followed, Jason and his wife Bobbi went to work
pulling every little piece of starting your own team together one piece at a time. The reality of ownership weighed on them every day. But, they were focused and determined so carrying that weight was
part of their daily process and they enjoyed the load. At this point, the goal was just to pull everything
together so they could be competitive when they arrived at their first race.
Early on, Jason and Bobbi Johnson reached out to a lot of special people they had gotten to know and
had build solid relationships over the years. People like Alan Haynes (Haynes Mechanical), David, Joy,
John, and Dustin Pope (Pope Refrigerated Transport), Don Ott (Don Ott Racing Engines), Richard
Strunks (Law Offices of Richards Strunks), Gary and Tracy Douglas (GT Bobcat), Jeannie Butler
(ButlerBuilt Seats), Kyle and Tammy Boltz (Lickdale Campground), and Chuck Merrill (Maxim). Soon they
realized the support they had as they chased their dreams. Everyone was willing to ‘live’ the dream with
them with the goal of making their dreams a reality.
The encouragement and support continued from family and friends like Carol and Morrel Myers (M&M
Farms), Craig Bradley (Skwid Signs), Jim McQueary (Performance Powder Works), Larry Derryberry,
George Labella, Maria Mellilo (FK Rod Ends), and Mississippi Bob all finding ways to help as they built
Jason Johnson Racing (JJR) truly from the ground up. Then on March 19, 2010, Jason and Bobbi headed
west from the Greenville, TX shop bound for Mesquite and the famed Devil’s Bowl Speedway. The night
would end with a 12th place finish. While Jason the competitor wished for more, as the owner he was
pleased the beautifully prepared #41 was going back into the trailer and heading home in one piece.
Early the next morning, the JJR team was back at work trying to make improvements. Fortunately, the
phone continued to ring with more encouragement and support — Gail from Weld Racing, Neil from
Hoosier Racing Tire, Dennis and Doug from Ohio Semitrailer, John from BMRS (Brown & Miller Racing
Solutions), Danny from Ben Cook Products, Beaver from Winters Performance Products, Gary and Brian
from FSR Radiators and Racing Products, and Doug from Schoenfeld Headers. All good people that were
looking to see how they could help in the pursuit of the dream.
On April 3, 2010, at Houston Raceway Park in Baytown, TX, an early sign of their 2010 success would
shine through as Jason claimed the victory. Sure, he had been to victory lane before, but this night was
very special. Not only had he won because of what he had done behind the wheel, but also because of a
lot of special friends and supporters who believed not only in him but in Jason and Bobbi’s dream. They
won as team owners. An emotional night for sure, one that will never be forgotten. But, that was only
the beginning.

The phone continued to ring — some with congratulatory words, some just to check in, and even more just to see
how they could help them continue to pursuit their dream. K&N Filters, Vortex Wings and Racing Products, ISC Racers Tape, Crow Enterprizes, RaceDiecast, Wilwood Engineering, Chalk Stix Torsion Bars, KSE Racing Products, Lee
Chassis, Conroy “Pneu” Control, Factory Kahne Shocks, and Design 500 Racewear all were in contact.
These special people all became sponsorship partners that were all in and along for the ride at Jason Johnson
Racing (JJR) because they believed in the dream. A dream that was just beginning. In the first season for JJR, they
raced in 59 races and celebrated nineteen (19) wins and thirty nine (39) Top 5 finishes throughout the season as
they captured the ASCS National championship. Wayne Priddy, your 2010 Brodix Lee Maier Crew Chief of the Year,
and Keith “Wolfie” Turney did their part with JJR to make sure the car was ready to race at every event. They were
an integral and very special part of JJR’s success in 2010. The teams’ consistency was a reflection of their hard
work, diligent preparation, dedication, persistence, and downright determination. All of these characteristics are
necessary in order for dreams to become a reality. But, at the end of the day none of this would have been possible
without the constant encouragement, support, and belief from a lot of special people . . . our family, friends,
sponsorship partners, and fans. Jason highlights, “While this championship in JJR’s first year is truly an honor and
privilege, it is truly a result of a lot of hard work and never ending support by everyone involved. We have so many
people to thank who believed in us, supported us, and encouraged us throughout the season that made this possible for us as a team.”
This should be no surprise, while the ASCS National Championship trophy and winner’s share of the points fund are
greatly appreciated and will be coveted for years, it is really about all the people who make this a truly special occasion for Jason and Bobbi Johnson. To all involved, Jason and Bobbi exclaim, “This championship is for all of you!
Thank you for Living the Dream with us! We are so thankful and appreciative to all of you for your special part in all
of our success, on and off the track, in 2010!”
And to you Jason and Bobbi, “thank you” for allowing all of us to be a special part of JJR and for allowing us to be
along for the incredible ride! Congratulations on your 2010 ASCS National Championship . . . we look forward to
your continued success in 2011.
