MINUTES OF MEETING- June 06, 2013
The meeting was called to order by Club President, Greg Attl, at 7:25PM. Greg made few
announcements and solicited input for potential new charity organizations for the SCVCC, as
well as donations for the survivors of the tornadoes in Oklahoma. There is a possibility of an
upcoming event where our members and cars could be displayed in front of the USS Iowa.
The ongoing Friday Night Drag Races in Bakersfield (non-club event), and L.A. River
kayaking were also discussed.
The 4th Annual Old Town Newhall Car Show is coming up on June 23, 2013 (non-club event).
Members played a “logo game” in which they identified companies/organizations by the
company logos.
Greg recognized Mike Woodings for his efforts related to the Monterey trip in May and
presented him with a special Polo shirt.
New Board members for 2013/2014 were announced and Greg thanked Elke Couples for
doing a great job as VP of the club in 2012/2013.
The next General Business Meeting will be held on July 11th due to the first Thursday of July
falling on the Independence Day holiday. The board meeting for July will be held on July 08,
2013.
Corvette Giveaway – Congratulations to Art Ward!!!
Trophies were presented to the SCVCC board member for their 2012/2013 service.
Congratulations and thank you to all.
The “Activity Champs” award was presented to Mike and Judy Woodings. Congratulations to
you both!!!
Special recognition and awards were presented to Howard Butler, Moira Moe, Linda Butler,
and Fred Seeley for their efforts this past year. Congratulations to all!!!
MEETING OFFICIAL START
-May 2013 minutes as recorded by Tony Munshi were approved.
-Treasurer- Dick Gauthier reported on the status of the club finances. All is well.

-Membership- Pat reported that club membership stands at 100 members with 6 people on
the waiting list. Membership dues in the amount of $75.00 are due by June 30, 2013. Pat is
seeking a volunteer to handle the 4th of July parade in Newhall. Please contact her for
information.
-Newsletter- Thank you to Mike Woodings for another great newsletter!! Mike announced
that the tile representing the SCVCC has become a permanent part of the National Corvette
Museum displayed in the main entrance.
-Quartermaster- Judy Woodings showed off new items available the SCVCC. There are new
visors, shirts, and jackets, as well as other items available for special order anytime. Please
contact Judy for more information and pricing.
-Activities- Mark Ware announced upcoming events:
06/16 – 7:00am, Cars n’ Coffee @ Galpin SCV (non-club).
06/29 – Malibu Winery
10/09 – Sacramento Run (CHP/Train Museum/Capitol Tour)
-50/50 – Congratulations to Jeff Hernandez for winning $96.00
-Badge it or Lose it – Terry White was not in attendance, sorry Terry. The July pot increases
to $120.00, so don’t forget those badges!
-Birthdays and Anniversaries- Congratulations to everyone who had a celebration in Feb.!!!!
If we miss anyone’s birthday and/or anniversary, please contact Pat Attl so she can
make sure the information is updated. We hate to miss anyone’s important day.
-Car Talk- Tony Munshi announced the purchase of a new 2012 Grand Sport; Fred Seeley
announced that his yellow C-5, Z06, will be going up for sale.
-New/Old Business-NONE

Tom’s Farms Run
June 1st

Club events got off to an early start in
June with a great run to Tom’s Farms,
just outside of Corona, off I-15 south of
CA-91. Thanks to Tony and Kathy
Munshi for putting together the event that
took us to another Southland destination
that many of us have overlooked in the
past.
Our June 1st run began with a briefing at
Chuy’s then departure down I- 5 and then
outbound I-210 through Pasadena. The
presence of out our assembly of Corvettes,
all shined and in a row, appeared to be too
much for a mini-caravan of four Ferraris to
handle as they made noticeable efforts to get
around and pass us as we headed east
through Pasadena. Judy Woodings couldn’t
help saying though that it would be fun to be
riding in one of the Italian cars. Shame!
Our entourage consisted of 16
Corvettes which made a grand sight
all assembled in the Tom’s Farms lot.

There is always a lot to see and do at Tom’s Farms and the shopping there was an added
feature for many in our group. Out Corvettes couldn’t handle furniture shopping, but
souvenirs, baked goods, nuts and candy all seemed to find their way back home.
Even with a choice of several lunch venues there, we all somehow ended up eating together
at the Mexican restaurant on site. We really are a tight group in the SCVCC!.
We were all on our own to make it home after lunch, but visits to the local outlet stores in
Elsinore, or the casino in Temecula, or even a detour over Ortega Highway to Capistrano
were all options.
Santa Clarita left its mark on yet another Southland location!

Malibu Wine and Dine

It was a very hot summer afternoon when we met
at Starbucks on June 29th. We could barely stand
the heat. Thankful for air-conditioning in newer
Corvettes our group headed for Malibu and Vine.
As we drove off one of our members announced
over the radio that it was 110 degrees! That made
us pick up our pace for a cooler destination.
Being in the lead was an experience for us, as we
drove off with all of our fellow Corvette
members following behind. It gave us a chill
watching the colorful caravan in our mirrors.
Even with the soaring temperatures, there was a
good turnout. Thanks to all who braved the heat.
We had a great drive down the 126 to the 23 and 101 and a special thanks for the help of our tail
gunners Johnny and Sheila.
The FUN began when we exited onto Kanan Road
and pulled over to regroup. A “friendly” a sheriff
drove by and out of sight ahead, and no surprise to
us, we found him waiting for us just around a turn
with his radar on and pointed in our direction.
Valentine V-1 to the rescue! We communicated
the “bogie” ahead and all waved to the deputy as
we passed. The rest of the drive to Malibu and
Vine allowed us to enjoy the winding roads and
beautiful scenery.
We arrived at Malibu and Vine on time and waiting for us when we rode in were the Bottoms and the
Allens. Our good friend Eva Brusa joined us shortly thereafter.
Malibu and Vine offers large grassy venue and we all
quickly found seats in the shade under the umbrellas as
the heat started to soar towards the 100-degree mark
even in the hills above Malibu. After a discussion
with the host, we were finally able to enjoy the wine, a
delicious lunch and good conversation with a relaxing
view of the golf course. Fortunately, a slight breeze
picked-up and made the heat a little more bearable.

As the afternoon progressed, the anticipation for the live music grew. Apparently, it was too hot for
the band as they were a “no-show”. Our host had no idea where the group was! Luckily, they had
piped in music that was suited to our baby boomer tastes. Even with the heat and without the band we
enjoyed another great Corvette run.

• The Corvette was named after a small, maneuverable warship of the same name. Myron
Scott, the creator of the All-American Soap Box Derby, is credited with naming the Corvette.
• The original front emblem and horn button
was designed to show a checkered flag
crossed with an American flag. The design
was changed when it was discovered that
using an American flag on a commercial
product is illegal. The American flag was
changed to a flag showing the Chevrolet
“bow-tie” emblem and a French fleur-de-lis
symbol, reflective of the French etymology of
the Chevrolet name.
• Corvettes are assembled today in Bowling Green, Kentucky. They have previously also
been assembled in Flint, Michigan and St. Louis, Missouri.
• All states have official insignia, such as a state flower or state bird. Kentucky, where
Corvettes are currently manufactured, also has an Official Sports Car – the Corvette, of
course!
• A Corvette has had the honor of serving as the pace car ten different times in the
Indianapolis 500.
• Generation C2 Corvettes, produced during the years 1963–1967, are also known as Sting
Rays. The design was partially inspired by a Mako shark that the designer Bill Mitchell had
caught while deep-sea fishing. The Mako shark further inspired the C3 generation as well.
• 47% of Corvette owners hold college degrees, higher than the national average…only 27%
of all US adults have a degree.
• The original 1953 Corvettes were all Polo White with a red interior. The Polo White paint
was last used in 1957.
• An argument developed between Bill Mitchell
and Zora Arkus-Duntov over the now-famous split
rear window in the 1963 coupe, favored by
Mitchell. It was removed the next year and never
seen again. A total of 10,594 split-window coupes
were produced in 1963.
