Cover Artist - Carol Platt
All ages and personalities can enjoy
paintings...as a painter or as a viewer! I was
busy drawing what I saw around me in nature as
a child. At age twelve I was excited to be at the
Orlando Institute of Art founded by Ralph
Bagley. Mr. Bagley, recently named one of the
Art Legends of Orange County, Florida, showed
me the importance of taking time to observe the
subject to be painted...he demonstrated the
basics of drawing and seeing the effects of light
on color. As an adult I learned the indirect
methods of the ‘Old Masters’ and the joy of
Plein Air painting with award winning painter,
Tom W. Sadler. Wow...it’s been a lifetime of
pleasure doing commissioned portraits,
landscapes and abstracts. I’m never bored when involved with art...Anyone
can learn to paint if they take classes, studying art books, dvd’s, and attend
curated art galleries and museum tours. My goal while painting is to capture
the essence of any subject by portraying the light as it reveals form and color.
My weekly artist’s life? A day is for private mentoring, a day is Open Studio
with other painters at the Mount Dora Center for the Arts, a day is Plein Air
painting with the Florida Painters Group...two days are studio painting,
meeting clients and handling business aspects. Interspersed are Plein Air
events, Quick Draw events and Mount Dora Art Strolls. Teaching,
demonstrating painting for groups and judging painting exhibitions are all part
of an exhilarating life as a painter. I’m blessed to have a supportive husband
and family. Check out www.carolplatt.com to view a few of my older
paintings.

Things we used to consider social mainstays are
now becoming obsolete. The “Lost Footprint”
exhibit encourages participants to think about the
objects and lifestyles we have left behind or are losing. This artwork is
intended to make you question the validity of what you value and what is
sustainable.
