Congratulations to the new 2015 Junior Division King Tyler Prihoda and Queen Ariet Pavlicek on their accomplishments. We also congratulate the 2015 Junior King Randy Weber and Junior Queen Lillie Weber. All
of these young Members were very active in the Point and Merit System and worked very hard to achieve
these honors. We also want to thank the 2014 King Christopher Pavlicek and Queen Kasi Schneider and the
Junior King Clayton Pavlicek and Junior Queen Adison Dach for serving in this capacity during the past year
and representing the Fraternal throughout the year.
Congratulations to all of the Junior Members who received awards for their participation in the Point and
Merit System during the Awards Day Ceremony. These Juniors participated in many activities throughout the
year including local meetings, District Meeting activities, volunteer programs and other events to gather as
many points as possible. They are recognized on the number of points they have accumulated during the year.
The Junior Division Activities for the summer have been completed. Camp Guardian Angel was held in June
in Ledbetter, Texas and the Awards Day was held in July in Abbott, Texas. Both of these wonderful activities
were very successful and many of our Junior Members were there to participate. We want to thank Anne
Wick, State Junior Co-Ordinator, and the local Society Junior Directors for their many hours of dedication
to the young people of our Fraternal. We must also thank Society No. 104 of Abbott, for hosting the Awards
Day activities. They provided a great program for the Juniors and their families and made everyone feel so
welcome to their community.
As summer comes to an end, we wish all Junior Members good luck in the new school year. Our hope for you
is that you will study hard, play hard, make new friends and enjoy this time in your life.
Many of our young adults will be making changes in their lives by leaving home for the first time, going to
college, or joining the workforce. We hope you will enjoy this time and take advantage of all the great opportunities that are available to you. We wish you the very best in all your endeavors.
Catholic Family Fraternal of Texas-K.J.Z.T. must continue to strive to increase our Membership, making our
Fraternal stronger and more viable. Remember, for your Society to attain the Platinum Status there must be
growth in your Membership. Please help your Society Officers by referring a friend, acquaintance, or family member. Each referral sent in will be contacted in a timely manner by an Agent to explain the programs
and benefits of membership within the Fraternal. Thank you and congratulations to the Societies who have
attained this goal. If your Society has not attained new members yet, there is still time to do so. If you have
any questions or need assistance, please call the State Office.
Thank you for sending in all the wonderful information and articles found in this edition of the Journal.
Please be safe!

Think of sports, and great athletes come to mind: Babe Ruth, Michael Jordan, Tom Brady. Think of actors, and names come to mind: Laurence Olivier, Humphrey Bogart, Katharine Hepburn, Meryl Streep. The
same goes with politics: Abraham Lincoln, Mahatma Gandhi, Winston Churchill; and science and technology: Thomas Edison, Albert Einstein. People with rare talents capture our imagination. They humanize their
area of expertise in a way that makes people sit up and take notice.
Christianity too has its heroes. In every age it has produced saints who inspired lots of lives: Paul, Francis
of Assisi, Catherine of Siena, Therese of Lisieux. Appreciation for saints is robust in every age. People of
goodwill rejoice to see the Gospel come alive. Personal sanctity lends credence to the notion that the ideals
proclaimed by Christ are attainable. As Blessed Pope Paul VI noted, “Modern man listens more willingly to
witnesses than to teachers and if he does listen to teachers, it is because they are witnesses.”
The sharing to which all of us is called is the vocation of holiness. All of us are called to be saints, without
exception! Pope Francis, in an interview, drove home this idea when he said, “Evangelical radicalness is not
only for religious: it is demanded of all.” If demanded of all, holiness is achievable by all. Its ingredients
are: a steady life of prayer, frequent reception of the sacraments, almsgiving, works of charity and, last but
not least, God’s grace.
The steps to holiness are doable, practical! Turn off the TV, unless it is EWTN, put down the smart phone!
And take up the rosary and Bible, daily. Attend Mass daily. Don’t buy that new gadget; and donate the
money instead to the poor. Do this and you could be on the way to real growth in the spiritual life and what
is even better is that you won’t be the only one to benefit! Your example can inspire the wide circle of family and friends in your life!
“Preach the Gospel at all times and
when necessary, use words.”
- St. Francis of Assisi

August 15th Feast of the Assumption
The Feast of the Assumption
celebrates both the happy
departure of Mary from this life by
her natural death, and her
assumption bodily into heaven.
Assumption Prayer
Dearest Mother, when you died God
raised your holy body and soul into heaven. Intercede for us that we may preserve
in doing His will in our lives, as you have
done while you were here on earth. Heal
our tired body, wearied mind and restless spirit that we may always rest in your
motherly care. Mary, holy advocate, hear
our prayers (mention your intention) and
cover us with your healing love. In honor
of your glorious Assumption, I pray one
Our Father, three Hail Marys and one Glory be. Amen.
This society was placed under the protection and patronage of the Assumption of
the Blessed Virgin Mary. The statue of
Our Lady in her Glorious Assumption, the
Patroness of K.J.Z.T. since 1894, in the
entrance hall of the State Office, reminds
us of the spiritual ideals of our organization. - A Brief History of the K.J.Z.T.
The Virgin Mary’s acceptance into the
glory of Heaven is seen by Catholics as
the symbol of the promise made by Jesus
to all enduring Christians that they too
will be received into paradise. - Wikipedia

Hail, Holy Queen
Hail, holy Queen, Mother of mercy, hail, our life,
our sweetness and our hope.
To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve:
to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and
weeping in this vale of tears.
Turn then, most gracious Advocate, thine eyes of
mercy toward us, and after this our exile, show
unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus, O
clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary! Amen.
Prayer for Peace to Mary
Immaculate Heart of Mary,
help us to conquer the menace of evil,
which so easily takes root
in the hearts of the people of today,
and whose immeasurable effects already
weigh down upon our modern world
and seem to block the paths toward the future.
From famine and war, deliver us.
From nuclear war, from incalculable self
destruction, from every kind of war, deliver us.
From sins against human life from its very
beginning, deliver us.
From hatred and from demeaning of the dignity
of the children of God, deliver us.
From readiness to trample on the commandments
of God, deliver us.
From the loss of awareness of good and evil,
deliver us.
From sins against the Holy Spirit,
deliver us.
Accept, O Mother of Christ,
this cry laden with the sufferings of all individual
human beings, laden with the sufferings
of whole societies.
Help us with the power of the Holy Spirit conquer
all sin: individual sin and the “sin of the world,”
sin in all its manifestations.
Let there be revealed once more in the history of
the world the infinite saving power of
the redemption:
the power of the merciful love.
May it put a stop to evil.
May it transform consciences.
May your Immaculate Heart
reveal for all the light of hope.
Amen.

Prayer to Mary, Mother of the Church
and Mother of our faith
Mother, help our faith! Open our ears to hear God’s word and to recognize
his voice and call. Awaken in us a desire to follow in his footsteps, to go forth
from our own land and to receive his promise.
Help us to be touched by his love, that we may touch him in faith.
Help us to entrust ourselves fully to him and to believe in his love, especially
at times of trial, beneath the shadow of the cross, when our faith is called to
mature. Sow in our faith the joy of the Risen One.
Remind us that those who believe are never alone.
Teach us to see all things with the eyes of Jesus, that he may be light for our
path. And may this light of faith always increase in us, until the dawn of that
undying day which is Christ himself, your Son, our Lord!
Jesus, We Thank You
For Wonderful Mother Mary
O God, we thank you for giving us such a wonderful Mother.
A Mother to understand us. A Mother to be with us.
A Mother to take all our tears, all our problems, all our sins, all our sufferings
to Jesus.
Mother Mary, pray for us at all times.
And together with you, Mother, we want to go to Jesus. Amen

Memorare
Remember, most loving Virgin Mary, never was it heard
that anyone who turned to you for help was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence, though burdened by my sins,
I run to your protectionfor you are my mother.
Mother of the Word of God, do not despise my words of pleading
but be merciful and hear my prayer. Amen.
A Night Prayer to Our Blessed Mother
Night is falling dear Mother, long day is o’er;
Before thy image I am kneeling once more
To thank thee for keeping me safe this day,
To ask thee this night to keep evil away.
Many times have I fallen Mother dear;
Many graces neglected since last I knelt here;
Wilt thou not in pity, my own Mother Mild,
Ask Jesus to pardon the sins of thy child?
I am going to sleep now, day’s work is done;
Its hours and its moments have passed one by one.
God Who will judge me, has counted them all;
He has numbered each grace, He has counted each fall;
In His book they are written against the last day.
Oh! Mother Ask Jesus to wash them away.
For one drop of His Blood for sinners was spilt,
Is sufficient to cleanse the world of its guilt.
And if er’ the dawn I should draw my last breath;
The sleep I take be the long sleep of death;
Be near me Mother for dear Jesus’ sake.
When at eternity shore my soul shall awake. Amen.

Welcome to
K.J.Z.T.!
By Jim Wiest FIC, CFFM,
Sales and Marketing Manager
If you are receiving this newspaper for the first time, you may be wondering
what it is all about. This is part of our efforts to tell more people who we are and
what we do. We are also looking to grow in areas around Texas that we have
never been before.
We are a Fraternal Benefit Society started in 1894 in Yoakum, Texas by a group
of Czech-American Catholic Ladies to benefit the Catholic Church, our communities and each other. Back then, only Catholic women were even allowed to
purchase life insurance and become members. Although membership requirements have been eased somewhat, the organization is still run solely by Catholic
women, who make up the Board of Directors and the officer positions. In the
times since our humble beginnings, we have grown to be an organization with
over $134,000,000 in assets and over 22,000 members.
K.J.Z.T. stands for the original name of our Society, written in the Czech
language, stands for “Katolicka Jednota Zen Texasych” Our official name is
Catholic Family Fraternal of Texas – K.J.Z.T. Our Home Office is in Austin,
TX and we have over 75 Local Societies across the state that serve their local
parishes and communities. Our source of income is the sale of life insurance
and annuities to Christians in Texas. However, we are not a typical life insurance company!
K.J.Z.T. is member-owned and non-profit. Profits go back to the memberowners in the form of lower premiums and/or higher returns and to the Local
Societies so they can help the Church and the local community. You become a
member simply by purchasing one of our products!
Members enjoy benefits such as mortgage loans and local activities for the
adults, as well as summer camps, local activities, and even scholarships for
Junior Members. We have recently sponsored Family Fun Days at select waterparks in Texas.
For more information about getting a Local Society started in your area, please
contact us at 888-253-2338.

participate as Junior Members. The way you become a member is to have a life
insurance policy with K.J.Z.T.
Junior members enjoy many fun and exciting events throughout the year.
These include a summer camp, outings to local events, group Masses, monthly
gatherings, arts and crafts and scholarship opportunities.
The Catholic Family Fraternal of Texas – K.J.Z.T. promotes the social, educational and religious culture of our members. This is done though a myriad of
events and activities organized by a points and merit system that promotes participation. Point accumulations earn members positions such as K.J.Z.T. King
or Queen and scholarships.

History of the K.J.Z.T. Junior Division
Page 15
Miss Mary Parma led the way for the K.J.Z.T. Juniors of today. She zealously strove to build up the Junior Division.
The first Junior Division was started in Hallettsville, Texas, in April 1931. The meeting was held at Hallettsville Society No. 2.
It was through Miss Parma’s effort and sincere interest in young members that made it possible for the Junior Division to present a program at the
General Convention held in Hallettsville in 1939. It was at this convention for the first time that the K.J.Z.T. Juniors wearing their uniforms, joined in
the solemn procession preceding the Mass.
As the membership increased, changes took place in the methods of helping and directing the Junior Division. At first, help was given directly by the
Supreme Officers, but as more and more Societies became active, this was no longer possible. The Societies were divided into Districts, and a District
Junior Directress was elected for the Junior Division of each Districts.
Miss Parma continued her work with the Juniors until she passed away on June 28, 1944. As a tribute to her memory, the Supreme Office carried on
the work with the Juniors without a supervisor until 1955, when Miss Antonia Pustka was appointed by the Board of Directors as General Directress of
Junior Activities.
Miss Pustka guided the Junior activities for four years. It was during this time that the Coronation of the K.J.Z.T. State Queen was presented at the XX
General Convention held in El Campo, Texas, in June 1958. Miss Pustka was succeeded in 1959 by Mrs. Estelle Smith.
In 1966, at the XXII General Convention, the delegation voted that the Board of Directors shall appoint several capable younger persons as Directresses of educational and recreational activities of the Junior Division under the supervision of the Board of Directors, dividing the State into as many
as five areas.
The Junior Division flourished during the next three years. It was during this time that the Point and Merit Program was adopted. The Area Spiritual
Moderators were also appointed.
In 1970, at the XXIII Regular General Convention, the delegation voted that the Board of Directors shall appoint a qualified member of the Fraternal as
State Coordinator of Junior Activities, responsible to the Board. This position was filled by the Area IV Director of Junior Activities Mrs. Effie Piwetz.
Under this plan, Area Directresses were no longer required.
With the guidance of Mrs. Piwetz, the Junior Division became stronger with the coordination of Junior activities through written guidelines. Annual
training sessions were set up for the District Junior Directors who were to work directly with the Local Junior Directors. Mrs. Piwetz worked diligently
for the Junior Division as the State Coordinator of Junior Activities until the XXIV Regular General Convention in 1974 when she was elected by the
delegation as Second Vice President of the K.J.Z.T. She continued as State Coordinator until she took office as the Second Vice President in March
1975. The Board of Directors then appointed Mrs. Edith Kneupper to fill the position of State Coordinator of Junior Activities effective in April 1975.
In June 1976, a Junior Division Spiritual Moderator or Chaplain was appointed by the Board of Director, with the consent of Bishop Vincent M. Harris.
He was Rev. Alois Pavlicek of Kyle, Texas.
Mrs. Kneupper served as State Co-Ordinator until November 1980. She was very dedicated to the Junior Division and continued her work using the
foundation set by previous leaders of the K.J.Z.T. Junior Division. Mrs. Kneupper initiated the Annual Coronation Ceremonies and continued the District Activities. A summer camp for Juniors who were active on the Point and Merit Program was organized during her term in office. A new Point and
Merit Program was begun in 1980. This program based most of its functions on the local level, yet also allowed District Meeting Activities and statewide
functions. During her tenure in office, Mrs. Kneupper guided the K.J.Z.T. Junior Division giving leadership and friendship to the Juniors. Through her
attention and devotion the K.J.Z.T. Junior Division became stronger and is continuing to grow.
In November of 1980, the K.J.Z.T. Board of Directors appointed Mrs. Loretta Stahl as the State Coordinator of Junior Activities to fill the position
when Mrs. Kneupper retired from the position of State K.J.Z.T. Coordinator of Junior Activities.
While serving as State Junior Coordinator, Mrs. Stahl held Junior Division retreats for the Junior Division members at Cedarbrake in Belton. The Juniors spent several days studying different aspects of the Catholic faith, building friendships, and working on craft projects. Many Junior Division Societies were formed and re-activated during this time. Mrs. Stahl resigned her position as Junior Coordinator in August 1983 to devote time to her children.
In 1983, Mrs. Lillian Kallus and Mrs. Virginia Kocian were appointed as State Coordinators. They served in this capacity until 1993. As Junior Coordinators they worked diligently to support and improve the Junior Division of the Catholic Family Fraternal of Texas. These ladies provided a Spiritual
Day of Recollection each year for the Juniors. This special day was held at the State Office with guest speakers, lunch, and arts and crafts for the Juniors. During their tenure in office they also published the first K.J.Z.T. cookbook. Many of the recipes in this book were recipes provided by the Junior
members.
Mrs. Anne Wick was appointed State Coordinator of Junior Activities in March 1993. Mrs. Judy Codenys joined her as her assistant in November 1993
and served in this capacity until June 1997. Under their leadership a summer camp program, Camp Guardian Angel, was started. The event of crowning
the King and Queen at the Royal Coronation was continued.
As more and more Societies organize their Junior Divisions, other changes take place, making the history of the K.J.Z.T. Junior Division a continuing
story of growth and development always aimed to provide more fun, more friendship, better leadership and initiative, as well as a better understanding
and appreciation of the Catholic Family Fraternal of Texas – K.J.Z.T.

By Anne Wick,
State Co-Ordinator of Jr. Activities
Well, 2015 Camp Guardian Angel is now in the past. During Camp one of
the campers said to me, “Mrs. Wick, you are awesome”. I replied, “You are
awesome, too”. The campers are the reason why I am and what makes Camp
Guardian Angel so awesome. The juniors along with their adult leaders enjoyed
a great time and experience during Camp. The four days at Camp were packed
with fun and educational activities. Some of the activities included a Scavenger
Hunt, a demonstration showing Peach Cobbler being baked over an open fire,
sewing a throw blanket, daily Holy Mass, dancing to a live band, and other activities furnished by the camp facility. At this time, I would like to thank Msgr.
Joseph Hybner, our State Chaplain, for coming to offer the Holy Masses, and to
all the adult leaders for all their help with the Juniors, and of course, to all the
junior campers who attended and made Camp Guardian Angel so successful.
“One, Two, Bless You”.
Junior Division Day was held on Saturday, July 25th, in Abbott, Texas, hosted
by Society No. 104. Many many thanks to Molly Gerik, Junior Director, for all
her assistance and the members of the Abbott Society for helping her with hosting the event. It was a very special and memorable event for all the Juniors who
attended. As always the Juniors had an opportunity to enjoy a delicious meal
and to experience fellowship with one another. Congratulations to the State
Queen and King and to all the award recipients.
There are few District meetings remaining. Please check to see if it is your
district meeting and make plans to attend. Looking forward to seeing you there.
Stay safe and enjoy the rest of your summer vacation with your families.

You may ask, “why
should I observe this
day?” Quite simply, our
flag is more than a patchwork of cloth. It is the
silent sentinel of our
freedom. It is a constant
reminder of the courage
required to maintain our
freedom, the liberty we
enjoy in being self-governed, and the loyalty
and trust which unites us
despite our individual
differences.

Giving Back!
The Catholic Family Fraternal of Texas – K.J.Z.T. adopted a statewide Fraternal 100 Project, recognizing each of the 40 11 West
Platinum Status Societies, 23 Diamond Status Societies, 3 Ruby Status Societies and 1 Turquoise Status Society. The Religious Programs at St. Mary’s School
Fraternal 100 Project provided $100 from the State Office to each 2014 Status Society to be given to the charity of their
choice. The purpose behind the Fraternal Project is to promote fellowship.
Each year societies of Catholic Family Fraternal of Texas – K.J.Z.T. focus on participating in parish and community
work projects and fundraisers throughout the State. During 2014, our members donated 128,738 volunteer hours and
participated in over 1,000 events.
Societies awarded with a status work hard all year long because their members believe in helping those in need and
working together to make their hometowns and churches stronger and safer places to enjoy life.

Old Glory
Recently I was fortunate to attend the K.J.Z.T. summer camp at Cooper Farm
in Ledbetter, TX, and was asked to type up some information on the United
States Flag or Old Glory as I refer to it. First I would like to thank all of the
K.J.Z.T. members, staff and family for the great weekend! It was wonderful to
spend time with my two oldest sons and to make new friends from around the
state of Texas who believe, as my wife and I do, in raising their children in a
tight knit family and Christian environment.
I would like to start by explaining a few things about The Flag. It has 13 stripes
for the thirteen original colonies, 50 stars one for each state, red is for valor and
the blood spilt to protect it, white for purity and peace that we all wish to have,
and blue is for vigilance and majestic to show great dignity even in the face of
adversity.
Never let the Flag touch the ground, if it does use very little soap and water to
clean it prior to storage or show. If the Flag becomes torn, stained, or noticeably
worn you can contact the Local VFW or K of C and they can help you properly
burn the flag, and I really recommend letting your children see this at least once.
We see the Flag burned all the time on T.V. I think we should let our children see
it done properly at least once.
Some of what I detailed in the previous paragraphs is mainly used in the military. Some others you may have heard that is used by military members are Old
Glory, Colors, and Ensign. These are terms used by different branches of the US
Military, and that information is also detailed in the link below.
The link below will allow you and your family to research more information
about the Flags rules and codes. Not all the rules and codes on the site cover
Military rules and codes but they will cover all that will be needed for civilian
use.
Thank you for your time and interest in properly displaying the Colors of our
country and I hope to see everyone again at camp next year.

Taming
Measles
By Dr. Ralph Wagner, Medical Adviser
Over the last several months, a lot of attention has been paid to the recent outbreak of measles in the United States. A total of 131 cases of measles have been
reported starting with exposures at Disneyland in December 2014. The disease
spread rapidly because of the low vaccination rates in California.
Apparently the vaccination rate for measles in some California schools is 50
percent or lower. Measles is a highly contagious viral illness with symptoms of
fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, followed by a red rash spreading to most of
the body. Symptoms usually last 7 to 10 days and tend to develop 10 to 12 days
after exposure to an infected person. Spread of the disease is through the air
from coughs and sneezing. Complications of measles can include pneumonia
and meningitis. Young children are commonly affected as they are frequently
the ones not given the vaccine. Sadly, the United States witnessed its first death
from measles in 12 years.
Much of the resistance to giving children the vaccination comes from a false
concern of the vaccine’s association with autism. The concern came up years
ago and has long since been definitively proven false. In studies involving over
half a million children comparing those who got vaccinated and those who
didn’t, the autism rates were similar. The science of these numbers does not lie.
This clearly means that vaccination does not cause autism.
Unfortunately, a diagnosis of autism is often made near the time of vaccination
in children, thus many people incorrectly assume the vaccination caused the
problem. These assumptions got carried away and it has led to low vaccinations
in some areas of the country. Thankfully, Texas children have high vaccination rates. These high vaccination rates makes it difficult for measles to cause a
large-scale outbreak in Texas.
The science regarding the effectiveness and safety of a vaccine for diseases
like measles is strong and clear. The vaccine is extremely effective, inexpensive,
or free in some cases, and definitely does NOT cause autism. Please have your
children vaccinated for the highly contagious diseases like measles to protect
their health and the health of our population as a whole. If you still have doubts
about a vaccine’s safety, talk with your doctor, or do some research and have a
good discussion about it with your doctor. Childhood vaccinations are safe and
effective at preventing serious disease, suffering, and death.

Hints & Tips
Creamy Mashed Potatoes
Ever wondered how you could get
smooth, lump-free, and creamy
mashed potatoes? The secret is the
potato ricer—think garlic press, but
bigger. This kitchen utensil presses
potatoes into small, uniform, rice-size
pieces. And as if this weren’t enough
of a reason, we have one more. With
most potato ricers, you can skip the
step of peeling potatoes; the ricer does
the job for you.
Leveled Cake Batter
Use a bent icing knife (also known as
an offset spatula). This versatile tool
is great for spreading the cake batter
inside a pan. You can then use it to ice
the cake. Because of its smart design,
the knife allows you to get right into
the corners of the pan. You’ll have a
perfectly leveled cake, which is important for uniform baking and even
icing.

THE MAGNIFICAT
CANTICLE OF
MARY
My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,
my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
for he has looked with favor on his lowly
servant.
From this day all generations will call me
blessed: the Almighty has done great things
for me, and holy is his Name.
He has mercy on those who fear Him
in every generation.
The Traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall
visits El Campo, Texas
A Junior member of Society No. 22 Wallis had the
honor of playing Taps for the closing of visitation
hours on Thursday, July 16th. Payton Brorsen has
been self-taught on the trumpet since she was 12. She
taught herself how to play Taps so she could play for
the veterans in Wallis, Texas at their Memorial Day
Service.
She saw the digital horn to be played at the Vietnam
Memorial and she did not like that it was not live. She
felt that all soldiers deserved to hear the music played
for them. Sarah Hudgins picked her to play and she
got a lot of comments about how good it was.
The Wall is a 3/5 scale of the Vietnam Memorial in
Washington, D.C. The Traveling Memorial stands as a
reminder of the great sacrifices made during the
Vietnam War. (credit: website)

He has shown the strength of His arm,
He has scattered the proud in their conceit.
He has cast down the mighty from their
thrones, and has lifted up the lowly.
He has filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich He has sent away empty.
He has come to the help of His servant Israel
for He has remembered his promise of mercy,
the promise He made to our fathers,
to Abraham and his children for ever. Amen.

Stop. Call. Confirm.
As your life situation changes through the years, so does your insurance needs. A regular review of your
life insurance coverage is important.
Have you recently gotten married, welcomed a baby, adopted a child, undergone a divorce or suffered a
death in the family? If the answer that question is “Yes.” it is probably time to update your beneficiary.
Tips on Beneficiaries:

If your primary beneficiary is incorrect or non-existent, the payment could pass on to your estate where it could be subject to taxes and fees.

Be sure to list a contingent beneficiary in the event your primary beneficiary precedes you in death.

List the full name of each beneficiary instead of “son”, “spouse”, “wife,” etc. This will avoid co-
mplications down the line.

Think carefully before naming minor children as Life Insurance beneficiaries. Minor Heirs cannot receive benefits from a life insurance policy until age 18 unless there is a named Legal Guardian.
Don’t underestimate the importance of keeping designated beneficiaries up to date. If you would like
to verify your current beneficiary or review your life insurance coverage, please call 1.888.253.2338
and we would be happy to assist you.
