As the hustle and bustle of the September rush settles us into fall, we can all begin to
breathe a little deeper and enjoy the changing of the seasons. We have welcomed so
many new families to the Milestones family and we hope you have taken a minute to meet
the parents of the children in your child’s classroom. Milestones is a great place for your
children to develop first friendships, but also for mom’s and dad’s to connect with other
working parents going through the same stresses and experiences as you.
Halloween is just around the corner. Party information will be coming out soon!

Autumn is here! Where did the
summer go? We made it through
the transitions last month and the
Wobblers seem to be well adjusted
in their new classrooms. This
month we will be doing different
things to go along with Halloween.
WE have a fun painting project
planned and the infants will get to
experience handling the guts from
inside a pumpkin. I would like to
make a picture book for the
infants to look at. Please bring in a
4x6 family photo or a photo of just
your child to put in the book.
October 31st is Halloween! If you
have a costume for your child
please send him or her in it, we’d
like to take a group photo!
This October we have a lot of
fun activities planned. For a
sensory experience we will be
playing with seedless pumpkin
guts. We will also be making
our Bumkin paintings. Special
shout out to Madilyn, she is
turning one on Oct. 8 !

closer to Halloween too! WE want to wish Liam the best in Toddler A and

incorporate into our learning experiences.
Don’t forget about Halloween on Thursday, October 31st. Please send

Older Toddlers
September saw a lot of tears,
but we all braved through it and
the kid’s are doing great now!
We have found interests the
children have, ways to calm
them down and redirect them to
a new activity, and changed
some things to accommodate
the new class. Now that the
children have (for the most
part) become accustomed to the
classroom, schedule, and
teachers we are going to start
focusing on building
independence. During the day
your children are getting their
own plates for meals, taking
care of their dishes when
they’re finished eating by
scraping their plates and putting
them in the sink, washing their
hands, and going to the
bathroom. This month the kids
are going to put all our efforts
on pulling their pants up and
down and putting on their own
shoes, so please keep in mind
that looser pants and shoes with
Velcro are much easier than
tight jeans and tie shoes at this
age. We want them to be able to
succeed on their own!
Throughout October we will be
doing all the fun fall things like
taking walks to admire the
changing colors, playing with
pumpkins and leaves, making a
scarecrow, and visiting the
apple orchard.
Toddler B
In October we will be introducing harvest topics
including apples, pumpkins, leaves and Halloween.
Through activities around harvest we will focus on
developing your child’s skills. We will focus on
developing your child’s skills.
We will also
incorporate your child’s interests through our own
observations. Please bring a bag of leaves each
Monday morning this month. We will use them on
the playground and in the texture tub. Please no
sticks. On Thursday, October 31st, we will be trick
or treating in the morning to the area businesses
and then we will be having a Halloween Party at
4pm. I will have a snack signup sheet mid-October.
We’ll also be having a parade around the center to
show off all lf our great costumes. We hope you
can make it!
Dear Early Preschool Families,
For the month of October we are going to start a unit called “Life on the Farm”. In this unit we will
focus on helping children learn about all aspects of a farm, including: different animals that live on a
farm, sounds animals make, what kinds of crops are grown, the typical daily routine on a farm, why
farms are important to people in many aspects of their daily lives, and why each farm is special. The
students will also have the opportunity to grow their own lima beans, make their own butter, and create
a large scarecrow. This unit will let children use their creativity and give them the opportunity to
experience new and exciting wonders that take place on a farm.
Preschool ~
Turning leaves, pumpkins, cider and the crisp fall air, all add to the magic of
Autumn. In Preschool during the month of October, our main study topic
will center on the many wonderful things Fall has to offer. This will include
a trip to the apple orchard. Details to come, but a tentative date of October
11th is being heavily considered. Another exciting field trip we are planning
is a tour of BC Pizza. The children will get to see behind the scenes, be able
to make their own pizzas and a feast of their own creations will culminate
our experience. Also, please take a moment now and then to look around our
room and in our hallway for amazing art creations. It is pretty cool to watch
them experiment with different art materials, see their finished products and
watch them as they grow in their fine motor skills.
Fun Facts…
*T he average pizzeria uses 55 pizza boxes per day.
*Cats will sleep 70% of their lives.
*A person uses approximately 57 squares of toilet paper.
*Apples are more efficient than caffeine in them morning.

Pre-K
We are so excited to welcome the month of October
into Pre-K! It will be so much fun to start decorating
our classroom with some beautiful fall art work! This
month we will be learning more about apples, leaves,
and pumpkins. It will all come to life as we take a field
trip to visit an apple orchard and pumpkin patch, and
we will also be visiting the Frederick Meijer Gardens
for a Leaf Lookers tour. We will also be celebrating
Halloween with a classroom party at the end of the
month. In addition to all of these fun and exciting fall
experiences, we will continue to have swim lessons
every other week. The children did a fantastic job
during our first swim class in September, and they
are really looking forward to getting back into the
pool again! This month we will continue to work on
developing our pre-kindergarten skills. We will spend
lots of time learning about the letters D, E, F, G, and H.
In addition, we will be counting, writing, coloring,
cutting, and working hard on our social skills each
and every day. Everyone is looking forward to a busy
and fun month in Pre-K!
October we will also be learning
about Fire Safety. To help
further our learning we will be
taking a trip to Plainfield Fire
station (Belmont Location) on
Tuesday Oct. 1st @ 10:00am.
Another fun event in October
will be the Halloween party on
Thursday Oct. 31st @ TBD.
Hope everyone has a great
October!
