Spray Paint Cleanup

Cleanup is a snap when you start your project by masking off exposed areas where you don’t
want any paint. Tape, newspaper and a drop cloth will help protect your work area. Just like any
painting project, be sure to wear old clothes and gloves. To clean up overspray from unprotected
areas, follow these simple directions for removal:
When paint/finish
is wet:
•Use mineral spirits for
most oil-based paints
•Soap and water works well
on latex and water-based paints for the first 15–20
minutes. (ex. H 2 O™ Latex,

durability. If you will be using the paint on
an outdoor project, a clear topcoat must
be used unless you use a metallic from
the Outdoor Spaces ® line. It is important to
note, however, that some clear coats may
somewhat diminish the metal-like finish.
Most metallic spray finishes will not work on Styrofoam ® or florals without damaging the material.
Krylon ® Short Cuts ® metallic paints are safe for both Styrofoam and florals, as well as wood, metal

Following these simple guidelines will help to ensure a successful finished project.
1 A clean, dry surface is important.
Ordinary household detergent or
mineral spirits usually does the job. Be
sure to sand or scrape, if necessary,
and use a primer whenever possible.
Rusted, glossy or hard surfaces should
be sanded to improve adhesion.
2 Use aerosol paints and coatings in good
weather, ideally when temperatures are
55°F to 90°F, and less than 85% relative
humidity. Avoid painting in direct
sunlight and hot, humid weather.
3 When applying more than one coat of
paint, be aware of recoat times stated
in the directions on the can.
4 It’s a good idea to test your paint or
spraying techniques on a scrap piece
before beginning your project. A
