CHOOSING A
TECHNOLOGY PARTNER
WHETHER YOU ARE INVESTING IN AN AR LAB FOR THE FIRST TIME, OR REWORKING YOUR CURRENT FACILITY,
CHOOSING THE RIGHT PARTNER IS THE FIRST STEP. HERE ARE SOME CONSIDERATIONS FOR THE PROCESS:
INDEPENDENCE
Costs, efficiency, and the right coating technology are critical in your purchasing decision. Look for the capability
to produce brand-name AR coatings and the freedom to build your own proprietary coatings (in-house AR). Leybold
Optics AR coaters are qualified to produce all major AR brands available today while affording you the decision on
whom to partner with when the time is right for you. Leybold Coaters also come with your choice of “in-house”
processes to ensure you are up and coating right away!
RELIABILITY
Experience, service, support, and the know-how to maximize your productivity will assure you of reliable operations.
With more than 300 AR coaters installed in North America, Leybold Optics machines have the highest productivity
and uptime in the industry. Leybold Optics is the leading manufacturer of anti-reflective coating equipment and technology.
FLEXIBILITY
Look for turnkey systems that are easily upgradeable to intelligently grow your coating business. Select an optimum
coating process to best suit your customers. Be sure to discuss your hardcoating options, either to integrate your
own existing hardcoating or to purchase with your new AR system. All Leybold Optics AR Coaters come with an optimized AR process for your lab.
COST EFFICIENCY
Your system should be profitable from Day One. Ensure that there is no wasted capital expense for under capacity
or over capacity by choosing the right system, with the capability to grow with your business. Leybold Optics offers
the industry’s only upgradeable AR Coating machines.
Leybold Optics has continuously played a significant role in the invention and development of vacuum coating
technology since 1851. With a continued tradition of product research and development, an on-site coating facility
for “hands-on” training, and a complete inventory of spare parts and materials, we’re committed to providing the
solution for your ophthalmic coating needs. Our commitment includes educational symposiums and an expert
engineering staff to perform installations, repairs, and maintenance.

THE RIGHT FIT
BEGIN WITH THE APPROPRIATE CAPACITY, THEN UPGRADE!
You’ve made the decision to build an AR laboratory. Great! Now you have to determine what is right for your
business. Start with an AR laboratory sized to suit your needs.
The MINILab and EASYLab are complete turnkey solutions priced and engineered specifically for smaller labs
interested in improving service and staying competitive, all without breaking the budget. With small footprints and
a choice of either incorporating backside spin hardcoaters or dip-based hardcoating, these AR labs allow you to
start with a smaller capacity, then upgrade as your business grows.

TESTING AND SERVICES
WHY? To monitor AR coating quality, reducing product returns and costly defects, promotes professional production methods, customer confidence and satisfaction. WHEN? Quality Control System (QCS) should be introduced
and repeated every 4 weeks or at a suitable frequency for your lab. HOW? Leybold offers a full lens testing service
or a testing kit with instructions and training so you can take control of your product.
In addition, Leybold also offers a spectrophotometer which measures the AR color and hardcoat thickness, keeping
track of not only the AR quality, but also the hardcoating process, promoting a total quality control of your product.
The Spectrophotometer is capable of measuring the
optical and physical properties of an AR coating on either
the convex or concave surface of the lens. It is capable
of accurately measuring the spectral curve as well as the
thickness of the hardcoat directly on the lens surface.

A GOOD QC SYSTEM WILL ENSURE QUALITY, PROFITABILITY,
AND CUSTOMER SATISFACTION, LEADING TO A HIGHER
TURNOVER AND INCREASING BUSINESS.
