The Atlantic City Long Term Recovery Group (ACLTRG) is helping residents of Atlantic City recover from the devastation of Hurricane Sandy.
The mission is to respond to residents’ needs, rebuild homes and restore
hope. At this time, 90 homes have been completed by the Atlantic City
Long Term Recovery Group.
"It has been nearly two years and yet there are families in Atlantic City
who still have not recovered form Hurricane Sandy. This is why it is so
meaningful for individuals like Kevin Bacon to use their celebrity to draw
attention to the continued need of the victims,” said Dr. Clarence Alston,
Executive Director of ACLTRG.
Volunteers have come from all over the United States to assist with the
repairs and rebuilds for homeowners. There is still a current influx of
volunteers that have helped and continue to do so, even on a local level.
The two groups volunteering today include a group of teens from Atlantic
County Institute of Technology (a local high school) and their teacher, all
of whom are working with ACLTRG for
the entire month of July and a group of
teens and adults from the Congregational Church of Eastford in Eastford, CT.

cafe in Ventnor. She has served

since 1992. DiOrio will be open

Clay: Andrew Dice Clay is an American comedian
and actor. He played the lead role in the 1990 film
The Adventures of Ford Fairlane. Clay has been
in several movies and has released a number of
stand-up comedy albums. He was the first comedian in history to sell out Madison Square Garden
two nights in a row.[2] As of at least 2009, only
five other comedians have achieved this: George
Carlin, Eddie Murphy, Dane Cook, Chris Rock, and
Kevin Hart.
8/10 - Showboat - Josh Turner: Roughstock and Rambler
Tour: One of country music’s most recognizable hit-makers earning numerous CMA,
ACM and GRAMMY nominations since the release of his debut album, Long Black
Train, Josh Turner has sold more than five million albums and garnered four No. 1
hits (including three multi-week chart-toppers): “Your Man,” “Would You Go With Me,”
and “Why Don’t We Just Dance” (a four-week No. 1 that was named the most-played
song of the year in 2010 by MediaBase). His song, “All Over Me,” from Haywire also
reached the top spot on the charts, making him one of only seven country artists to
have two No. 1 hits in 2010. Turner is one of the youngest members of the Grand
Ole Opry, inducted in 2007. A Hannah, S.C. native, Turner has been songwriting and
performing since he was a young child, and in support of music education, created
The Josh Turner Scholarship Fund to assist students interested in pursuing a future
in arts/music. As a high school student, he had very little access to music education,
therefore realizes first-hand the importance of arts in the schools. Turner released
his fifth studio album, Punching Bag on June 12, 2012 which debuted at No. 1 on
the Billboard Country Albums Chart. The debut single, “Time is Love” was #1 on the
Best of 2012 Billboard Country Chart. The Associated Press says, “With Punching Bag,
Turner once again proves he ranks among the most effective -- and most hard-core

American rock band formed in 1967 in Chicago, Illinois. The self-described “rock
and roll band with horns” began as a politically charged, sometimes experimental,

ballads. The group had a steady stream of hits throughout the 1970s and 1980s.
Second only to The Beach Boys in Billboard singles and albums chart success

8/23 - Trump Taj Mahal - Rod Stewart: Rod Stewart is a British rock
singer-songwriter. Born and raised in London, he is of English and Scottish ancestry.
Stewart is one of the best-selling music artists of all time, having sold over 100

often took on a new wave or soft rock/middle-of-the-road quality, and in the early

8/23 - Tropicana - Creedence Clearwater Revisited: Creedence
Clearwater Revisited is a band formed in 1995 by former Creedence Clearwater Revival members Stu Cook (bass) and Doug Clifford (drums). The band was formed in
1995 with Cook saying, “We never really had any intention of playing for the public,
but a friend wanted to promote a couple of concerts. We got talked into it, but didn’t
know how it would go over.” The band has toured North America, South America,
Australia, New Zealand, Europe and Asia. A 1997 legal injunction by John Fogerty
forced the group to change its name to Cosmo’s Factory, but the courts later ruled
in Cook’s and Clifford’s favor. In 1998 the band released Recollection, composed of
live cover versions of Creedence Clearwater Revival songs. As of 2014 Creedence
Clearwater Revisited is on tour of the US.
8/24 - Caesars - Alan Jackson: After Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson was
the most popular male country singer of the ‘90s. An heir to the new traditionalist
movement of the ‘80s, Jackson’s approach was rooted in classic honky tonk yet remained comfortably within the contemporary mainstream. Jackson’s hallmark was
consistency — he wrote many of his own hits, and his way with a hook was part of
the reason he never really hit a commercial dry spell, even into the new millennium.
He also projected a modest, wholesome, down-to-earth image that made him one
of the best-liked stars of his era, even apart from his music. The total package

8/30 - Golden Nugget - Aaron Lewis: Aaron Lewis is an American musician, who is the lead vocalist, rhythm guitarist, and founding member of the rock

on March 1, 2011 on Stroudavarious Records. Lewis’ first full-length solo release,
The Road, was released by Blaster Records on November 13, 2012.

“Saving the Goose Part V” is the fifth column in a series by the “Wiz” in an
attempt to reverse the dismal fate of our seriously troubled gaming industry
in Atlantic City. During the past third of a century of legalized casino gaming
in Atlantic City politicos have siphoned off billions of dollars in casino tax
revenues to be spent elsewhere in the state instead of infrastructure projects
and improvements in our much beloved casino resort. This needs to stop if
we are prevent the Golden Goose’s demise!
Here is some food for thought on an enlightened tax policy that will help
save us from pending ruin:
Lower the state casino gaming tax from 8% of win to 5%. This will give our
existing casinos a little breathing room and prevent more closings and loss of
many thousands of jobs. It will also enable our casinos to offer more attractive comps and promos to combat the rise in casino gaming in nearby states.
Double the CRDA re-investment tax (from 1.25% to 2.5%) and mandate that
all funds be spent on local projects to improve, market, and protect Atlantic
City.
In order to discourage and prevent an “undue economic concentration”
place a surtax on any company owning more than one casino in town.
Double the surtax if they choose to steal our casino business customers in a
casino property owned by them to a contiguous state or anywhere else in the
Garden State, for that matter, if it comes to that.
Grant a ten year tax abatement to any new gaming or non-gaming hotel
constructed in Atlantic City. Remember, we need more rooms to enhance
our convention business and get a regularly scheduled major airline in town.
Extend it to 20 years if they move their corporate headquarters here. (Note:
None of the existing casino’s headquarters are in A.C.)
Place a significant and large per-head surcharge on any company utilizing foreign workers to support their casino properties in Atlantic City. For example,
why must you call the Philippines to make a dinner reservation here? There
are plenty of locals who would enjoy that job and be able to spend some of
their earnings locally, including in our casinos.

FISHING REPORT
One may have heard the term “driving over the fish,” used when
anglers spend their time and fuel steaming off to their destination while
missing fertile potential fishing grounds on the way. While more common offshore, it happens in the bay all the time.
Twelve year old Michael
Cincotta of Margate
zipped out on the bay
between thunderstorms
to nab this beauty.
Bill Hoffman, for example, sits on his deck catching croakers within
sight of the Margate Bridge while watching boaters cruise past him
looking for “good” spots. Jon McNichol and his buddies of Paoli, Pa.
have been observed by Margate Bay boaters as “drifting over the same
spot” five minutes from the dock all day. They have won four $100.00
gift certificates so far this season for catching fish over four pounds.
They brought in a 5.8 and a 4.5 pound flounder this week as well as
three other healthy keepers. Everyone wants to know their secret. Likewise, Frank Boninu and friend Al Thatcher, who formed their alliance ice
fishing in Pennsylvania, rented a small outboard on a sixteen foot bay
garvey, stayed close to the dock and returned with five keeper flounder.
Michael Sherman of Margate caught his twenty inch flounder off a
public access dock on the Margate Bay while Bert Parenti of Ventnor
took his clan out for their annual blue claw catching contest. They are
always the season crabbing champs. In other words, the grass is not
greener on the other side of the fence, nor is the water bluer on the
ocean side of the Longport Bridge.
