'n VERWOESTENDE storm wat net beskryf kan
word as 'n tornado het Mooketsi Donderdagmiddag getref.
Alle hel het omstreeks 16:45 losgebreek.
Verskeie huise en plaasskure se dakke is
afgeruk.
Alhoewel die storm deur die hele Mooketsi
en Koedoesrivier-vallei is, was daar 'n duidelike verwoestingspad van nagenoeg 2km
breed, wat net beskryf kan word as 'n tornado.
Reuse bome soos die hardekool, wat bekend
is vir sy gehardheid is ontwortel.
ZZ2 het geringe skade aan geboue, maar
hulle gewasse het skade vrygespring.
Besighede in Mooketsi wat strukturele skade
het is Groblers Velddienste, Mooketsi Hardeware en die Poskantoor.
Groot dele van Mooketsi was die naweek
sonder krag weens bome wat op kraglyne geval
het.
Reën het ook goed uitgesak in Tzaneen en
die omliggende omgewing.
Volgens die Departement van Waterwese is
die volgende reën gemeet vir verlede week:
Haenertsburg, Ebenezerdam: 63mm, Magoebaskloof, Politsi: 102.70mm, Tzaneen:
107.40mm, Broederstroom, Dap Naude:
114.20 Molototsi, Modjadji: 21.50mm.

Hy sal op 25 Mei by NG Gemeente Wolkberg optree.
Jan kuier tussen 10:00 en 10:30 saam met die
kleuters en tussen 10:30 en 11:00 saam met die
groter kinders.
Jan is reeds baie lank as sanger bekend en
ook vir kinderproduksies, Loflaaities en
Lofkleuters waarvan ‘n aantal goue status verwerf het. Hy het ook ‘n liedboek vir Kinders
uitgebring.
Jan is stigterslid van Sagma en Christian
Artists SA en neem ‘n leierposisie in onder
gospelkunstenaars in SA.
Hy is ook skrywer en of medeskrywer van ’n
aantal boeke o.a. "Wat sal Jesus doen" wat in
1999 ‘n nasionale toekenning gewen het.
Die gemeenskap se kleuterskole, speelgroepe en laerskoolkinders word hartlik uitgenooi om die oggend saam met Jan te kuier.

local artists and books by local authors will be

IN A bid to provide financial solutions to local
small businesses, SupplyFIN in partnership
with Greater Tzaneen Economic Development Agency (GTEDA) officially launched a
new Mopani branch in Tzaneen on
Thursday.
The managing director of SupplyFIN, Tshifhiwa Tshiololi said access to affordable financing remains the most critical challenge
facing small businesses in the country and
Tzaneen is no exception. "We are here to
provide development finance to small businesses and help grow them," said Tshiololi.
The Chief Executive Officer of GTEDA,
Kwena Maphoto said it is their organisation's
mission to help grow small businesses while
improving Tzaneen's economy.
"We are going to work hand in hand with
SupplyFIN to supply small businesses with
finance," said Maphoto.
The Mayor of Greater Tzaneen Municipality, Dikeledi Mmetle welcomed SupplyFIN
to Tzaneen saying she hope the branch will
improve the landscape of small business in the
district and therefore stimulate a participatory
economy which will be key in creating jobs.

GENERAL
Welcome rains help gardens
FINALLY, some good rain! The extreme thunder storms we
are experiencing are not ideal, but at least our gardens are
getting some water.
The clean-up afterwards is not too bad and it gives us a
great opportunity to spend some quality time in the
garden.
If you haven't already done so, it is advisable to put
down a nice thick layer of mulch in your flower beds.
This will keep the soil moist and assist with what is
expected to be a dry winter. With all the leaves and
damaged flowers from the thunderstorms, you can quickly
build up a carpet of mulch under your shrubs and trees.
Easter is family time and if you have left it too late, there
are wonderful flowering shrubs and ground covers available from the retail nurseries that will give you instant
colour.
You can very quickly brighten up your patio with many
different colourful hanging bowls or potted plants and after
Easter these can be transferred into your garden for some
winter cheer.
Continue with your fertilizing program. The plants need
to build up resources for the winter stress and any fertilizer
now will assist them in their efforts.
Lawn can be toughened up with a high potassium
fertilizer. 3:1:5 can be used at a rate of approximately 30
grams per square meter. In layman's terms this is about a
closed handful spread out for every step you take. Always
try to apply fertilizer just before rain or water it in after
application.
Camellia japonica, commonly just know as Japonicas,
are starting to flower. Although it is believed not to be suited
to Tzaneen's climate, the "Sasanqua" with the smaller leaf
does extremely well in Tzaneen.
The other Camellias prefer the cooler climate in Haenertsburg and Magoebaskloof and even do well in shady
gardens in Tzaneen. They need to be fertilized heavily
during bud formation and flowering to ensure that all the
flowers don't fall off and you can double-up on your
watering as well. Never water on the flowers, just around
the stem on the ground.
Autumn is the perfect time to lift and divide perennials
such as Agapanthus, Daylilies and Ajuga. When lifting
them, ensure that your new area is ready for planting to
minimize the time that the plant is out of the ground. Cut
back old leaves and water well with a soft spray after
replanting.
The last of your summer annuals can be dug up and
replaced with winter annuals towards the end of April.
Prepare your beds for annuals in advance by loosening the
top 30cm of soil and adding superphosphate and compost.
As part of the recent expansion plans of Complete
Gardens and continuing with their efforts of improving the
gardens in and around Tzaneen one garden at a time, they

Little Eden enjoy Easter eggs galore
It was all joy when the Caltex White Bunny handed out Easter Eggs to kids
at Little Eden Nursery School in Tzaneen on Friday. The event was made
possible by owners of Caltex Northern Motors, Vincent and Thea Coad
and Little Eden manager, Mariska Phillips.
EDEN Square shopping centre in Phalaborwa will be
hosting a "House and Homemakers" Expo from April 25
to 28, with exhibitors positioned down the main mall
inside the centre.
The exhibition will feature a broad range of services
and products linked to the purchasing, building, and
furnishing of a home.
Applications to participate from companies in the
following industries will be considered - real estate
agencies, banking institutions, home insurance, legal
companies and conveyancers, building contractors and
suppliers, home security and gates, fencing and vibacrete walls, home appliances, furniture and home
decor, window treatments \ curtaining and blinds specialists, kitchen and bathroom companies, plumbing and
electrical services, landscape and garden companies etc.
Exhibitors will be required to provide, create and setup
their own exhibition stand with relevant signage, and to
have representatives at the stand to interact with visitors.
Eden Square centre management will order in and
provide each exhibitor with a table, cloth, chair, and
carpet tiles. The centre will also advertise the event
extensively via local radio and print media.
Eden Square attracts large numbers of shoppers every

'n oorwinnaarsgemiddeld te handhaaf tydens die skaaktoernooi in
Polokwane. Stephan Leeuwner, Dieter Pretorius, Danie Leeuwner en
Herman Broodryk wen elkeen twee van hul vyf wedstryde. Ralph
Rundle, Koketso Motaung en Benna Kasterop wen drie van die vyf.

THE Interact Letaba club, based at
Merensky and affiliated to Rotary
Letaba, collected toys for the children at the Yingisani School.
Merensky learners generously
donated hundreds of quality toys,
which were distributed to the
Yingisani children in March.
The toys were all cleaned, mended if necessary, and smaller toys
gathered together in gift packs of
two toys.
The Yingisani children (all 206
of them!) were thrilled with their
toys - for some the first they ever
received - but it was the friendly,
loving way the Interactors interacted with the children that made
the occasion memorable.
They quickly learned how to say
"I love you" in sign language and
were rewarded with big smiles
when they signed it to the Yingisani children.
Pilusa can jump high
THIS athletic learner from Unicorn Preparatory School, Makoma Pilusa, qualified to take
part in the SA Athletics championships in
Durban recently. Competing against 21 athletes from across the country, Makoma
achieved a fourth place as well as a personal
best in the u/10 high-jump event. Unicorn is
very proud of her!
ON the mistiest day this annual charity swim has ever experienced,
which resulted in very late starts and the Mile (1600m) being reduced
to 1400m for swimmer safety reasons – the Stanford Lake College
Interacters were out in force helping at registration, and providing
marketing information for the College. In addition, they were active
selling raffle tickets, and managed to raise R1 600, half of which was
the prize money for the lucky winner, Jonah Dollery (Gr8) and the
remaining R800 is to be used for an identified Interact charity project.

will be held on August 3 in the Merensky school hall.
Prizes of more than
R40 000 are up for
grabs and include
amplifiers,
microphones, strings and
guitar starter packs
and even a music
video for the winning
band.
The judging panel
consists of local musicians from the wellknown band Lumbus
Frater: Sarel Snyman,
Mario Santarita and
Jansen van der Walt.
Any band in the
Limpopo region can
enter the competition
(entry form is available on the school's
website) just remember to include a
sound- or video clip
of your band in action
for the pre-selection
round where the
judges and independent parties will determine the finalist to
compete on the gala
evening.

THE outstanding matric results
that were achieved by the 2011
Plasies are now even beter than it
was before.
The results from the re-evaluation from examination moderators were released and 8 more
distinctions can be added to the
known total of 324. Merensky
learners of 2011 have thus
achieved a staggering 332 distinctions!

Merensky’s Archery club recieve medals
FOURTEEN archers from the Merensky Archery club competed in
the South African Field Championship that took place over the
course of 3 strenuous days.
The following exceptional results were achieved:
Famed archer, Johan Wagner received his provincial and national
colors for his field performance.
Ricus Warmenhoven received
his provincial colors.
Marla Barnard set new records
in the junior girls bow hunting
category for her outstanding
shooting performance during the
second days' challenge - hunter,
as well as for the third days challenge, the animal round.
She received a golden medal for
the animal round.
What makes her achievements
even more astounding is that she
did all of the above with torn hand
ligaments.
Rodney Stevens received a silver medal in the junior men
bowhunting category.

toon baie goeie sportmansgees. Hulle wen
uiteindelik met 2 - 0.

vriendskaplike wedstryd teen Oos Moot se
eerstespan. Die telling eindig gelykop met een
doel elk.
Ook Vossie-hokkie sien uit na wonderlike
toere gedurende die April-vakansie.
Plasies Eco Club enjoy night drive
THE Merensky Agri Eco Club recently enjoyed a night drive on the farm
at school. Under the watchful eyes of Jacques du Toit and Francois
Vorster, 14 different animal species were identified. "All of the learners
enjoyed the drive and look forward to the rest of the activities that club
members will enjoy next term," said deputy of agriculture and
environmental affairs, Willie Stevens.

Die Vossies het besonder goed gedoen en
het al nege hulle wedstryde gewen.
Die eerstespan wen hulle wedstryd met 23 5, nadat hulle halftyd maar 6 - 0 voor was
danksy die skopskoen van Marcel Scholtz.
In die tweede helfte druk Andries Welgemoed en Don Mlondobozi beide drieë wat
deur Marcel verdoel word. Nog 'n strafskop
word oorgeklits, die eindtelling 23 - 5.
Die tweedespan wen hulle wedstryd met 24
- 10 en die derde span wen 20 - 0.
Die 0/16A-span het 'n harde wedstryd,

A FABULOUS Tour de Unicorn
was held recently for all the
Foundation Phase learners of
Unicorn Preparatory School.
The little ones all brought their
bicycles to school and enjoyed
the obstacle course which took
them
around
the
school
grounds.
Boulevard Cycles continued
their support of this fun day by
donating a bicycle, which will be
kept by the school.
Parents and teachers were on
scene to provide support in the
case of broken bicycles or
skinned knees, though in the end
the teachers sustained more injuries from being driven into than
the kids did from falling.
Unicorn would like to thank
everyone that was involved in

ook ‘n groot rol tydens die kampioenskap gespeel en die spanne het
