2011 Progress Report - Pacific Northwest Diabetes Research Institute
A BOLD NEW
STRATEGIC ALLIANCE
2011 PROGRESS REPORT
This year, PNDRI entered into a new strategic
alliance with Swedish Medical Center. While it is
still being fully defined, this alliance will expand
PNDRI’s opportunities for clinical research
and will lead to collaborative work on organ
transplants. It will also allow us to participate in
Swedish’s global-to-local initiative, an innovative
approach to improving health in SeaTac and
Tukwila. The alliance will bring together
organizations with a shared commitment to
the science of diabetes health care.
At PNDRI, we believe that research is hope at
work. This year, we have many reasons to be
hopeful. 2011 has been a year of significant
advancement at the Institute — achievement in
our research, strengthening of our community
and its support, and an enlargement of the vision
of our future through a new alliance. PNDRI is
pleased to share our progress and our hopes
with you.
THE WORLD NEEDS A TEAM
APPROACH TO DIABETES
PNDRI is working with global health leaders in
Seattle and around the world to plan for bold,
innovative collaborative strategies designed
to arrest the tsunami of diabetes. Chronic
diseases now cause more deaths worldwide than
infectious disease; diabetes is increasing at a
potentially catastrophic rate. We need to work
together to prevent disaster. Working together,
we can succeed.

STRONGEST SUPPORT EVER: In 2011, PNDRI received a check in the mail for $4.6M. While the gift had been planned by the donor, it came as a
fabulous surprise to PNDRI. We will be using the gift to help solidify and define our future, however, the gift is excluded from these unaudited financial results.
