CHUTTER UNDERWRITING SERVICES
Always striving for that
gold medal performance
By Pete and Mike Chutter
I
’m sure all of you lost as much
sleep as we did during the Winter Olympics trying to watch as
many of Team Canada’s efforts
as possible. The focus and dedication required by these superb
athletes make all of them gold medalists in our eyes, regardless of how their
journey ended.
The joy of watching Canada’s best
putting everything out there more than
made up for the tired eyes and dull
headaches Team Under-Slept displayed
here at Chutter headquarters. Our team
of underwriters may not be Olympic
athletes, but they do work as hard as they
can for you and for each other to ensure
they reach their goal of providing the
best products and service to existing and
new supporters.
As managers and coaches of this
energetic bunch, it’s our responsibility to
provide the innovations and equipment
that give them an edge over the competition. Doing so allows them to focus on
the job at hand – getting quick answers
and solutions so you brokers can best
serve your clients.
Team Casualty, under veteran manager/coach Keith Stead, consists of Ryan
Meyer, Kevin Williams and Morgan
Chutter. This year we’ve provided them
with a new set of underwriting tools
and capacity so you can assist an even
broader range of clients.
If we were unable to give you a quick

solution for a certain class of product or
client last year, please try us again this
year. We make the process a 24-hour
turnaround, so we won’t waste your time
and we may enable you to score a win for
your business and your client. Part of the
expanded toolbox for the Casualty team
includes enhanced property capacity and
abilities.
Team CPLUS, led by manager/coach
David Lyons, another insurance vet-

eran, is made up of Tim Novak, Delma
Bustamante and Chris Lyons in B.C. and
Maureen Hewitt in Alberta. This year, to
benefit our broker users, we moved our
systems development manager on-site in
our North Vancouver office to allow for
enhanced communication and improved
opportunity for new product development and systems enhancement.
We’re proud that CPLUS continues to
satisfy our customers – you, the independent brokers – by making the process
of specialty personal lines purchase and
renewal an efficient and easy process for
you and your customers, the insurancebuying public.
It’s easy for us to tell you we have a
great product and system, but let the
numbers speak for themselves. We just
passed 4,100 broker-users, and renewal
retention exceeds 90 per cent. Please give
David or Maureen a call if you’d like to
hear more about our quote-bind-print
point-of-sale system.

While we’re applauding our CUS and
CPLUS teams, it’s high time we give
someone special much-deserved and
long overdue credit. Since our business
was launched in 1996, when there were
only three of us in this office – we’re not
quite sure how many bodies work here
now – the backbone of the organization, the individual who has kept our
heads above water and in the game,
has been Gail Smith, our tireless office
manager.
For 18 years Gail has consistently gone
beyond the call to support the service
levels we feel are so important to achieve
and maintain. But unlike 18 years
From the May 2014 edition of InsurancePeople
ago, she is no longer alone. Today she
manages a team that includes longtime
employees Josie Tumamak and Peih
Cheng Sia.
Our thanks to Gail and the efforts of
her team. In our eyes, theirs has been a
gold medal performance.
Finally, our thanks to you, the insurance broker, for the opportunity over
the years to prove that a good product
and good service are still the important
ingredients needed to grow and maintain
a happy client base.
Please give our team coaches a call and
see for yourselves why, in our eyes, they
all belong on the podium. IP
