First, let me start with a quick reminder to purchase
your tickets for Treasures Under the Sea, which is on
th
February 20 . This is our major fundraiser for the
year, and proceeds go to our Scholarship and Welfare
Funds. We have loads of fun baskets and items for the
silent auction. Also, there are some very exciting
“experiences” to bid on during the live auction. There
will be a buffet dinner, live music, a super fun Emcee,
and a DJ and dancing to end the evening!
Kathie and Crystal, our Welfare and Scholarship
Chairs, are gearing up their committees to review the
applicants and award these funds. Mark your
calendars and get those applications turned in!

March 1 is the deadline for the Welfare application,

and March 31 for the Scholarship application. Both
can be found within the newsletter and on our

The Hui ‘O Na Wahine (Schofield Spouse Club) will be
hosting our club this month, for our Joint Luncheon.
Look for your invitation and mark your calendars, as
we celebrate the Chinese New Year with the Hui ‘O Na

Wahine on February 16 . This luncheon will be held
at the Nehelani , on Schofield Barracks.
February is the month for love! Celebrate that special

The Scholarship application for the 2016-2017 academic year is

Welfare
The Hui O’Wahine Welfare Committee is getting ready for
another rewarding year, helping local organizations that support
our Military personnel and their family members. Completed
applications for Welfare requests must be postmarked by March

the water with your fellow surfers.
Bunco Club
Fun and easy to play. Bunco brings
friends together for fun and laughs!
Cooking Club
Come learn to prepare a different regional dish each
month. We meet at the Ft. Shafter Community
Center or plan an arranged outing in advance.
Golf Club
Fore! Nothing is better than enjoying the great
outdoors with a round of golf.
Hiking Club
Go on adventurous hikes all around Oahu, from
Makapu’u to Manoa Falls.
Lunch Bunch
Meet up once a month at different restaurants all
over the island.
Movie Club
Meet once a month for some kid free
movie time.
Mai Tai Club
Join us as we tour the island looking for the best drinks
on Oahu.

A Highly Requested
Beverage Recipe!
Whiskey Sour - Southern Style
by: Bobbette Alvin
• 2 (12 ounce) lemonade concentrate
• 2 (6 ounce) orange juice concentrate
• 1 plus 1/2 cup lemon juice with lots of pulp (I always
squeeze mine from fresh)
• 5 cups bourbon (don't use Jack Daniels) - Makers Mark is
perfect
• 2-(2 liter) bottles of 7-up (Sprite or ginger ale work too,
but don't use diet)
Mix all ingredients and freeze overnight. Remove from freezer
and scoop into glass 20 minutes before drinking.
I place my frozen juices in refrigerator until liquid to emulsify
better when mixing. I also make sure my bourbon and 7-up is
good and cold (overnight refrigerate) before I put it all together.
