pool, have the use of a scooter to get around and enjoy special
excursions in an air-conditioned van. We’ll make sure you can.
We also understand that you may need advice on how to visit
places of interest avoiding steep slopes or flights of stairs. That’s
why we have enlisted local representatives to assist you in most
of our holiday destinations.*

I am Andy Wright, the Managing Director of Accessible Travel & Leisure, the
UK’s leading tour operator for the less mobile.
If you have limited mobility like me then you’ll understand only too well how
frustrating arranging a holiday can be. It’s rarely an enjoyable experience. That’s
why I created our company and that’s why I know how valuable our service is
to so many people.
Your local travel agent may try hard to help but few really understand the
importance of knowing the height of the washbasin, whether there’s a roll-in
shower and if the grab rails are on the left or right side. We do.
Not only that but we’ve visited every single hotel and resort in our brochure.
We know which rooms are accessible. You’ll have your own accessible transfer,
direct to your accessible hotel and we will arrange any equipment that
you might require. We know when there’s a pool hoist or a ramp and, more

Cape Town Experience
Of course no trip to South Africa would be complete without a visit
to Cape Town! Top off your amazing safari with a four night hotel
stay in the beautiful and stunning city of Cape Town. Well known
for its famous landmarks, take a breathtaking trip to the top of
the awesome Table Mountain; see the penguins at Boulders Beach;

Garden Route Experience
The aptly named Garden Route is one of the most stunningly
beautiful tours available in South Africa and includes wonderful
forests, freshwater lakes, wetlands, fabulous white sandy beaches,
tranquil lagoons, hidden coves and unique animal encounters.
A typical tour takes 5 days / 4 nights starting at Cape Town and
visiting Walkers Bay, where Antarctic Whales visit seasonally. Then
onto Oudtshoorn, to experience one of the many Ostrich farms.
Travel to the heart of the Garden Route – the Tsitsikamma National
Park which embraces an 80km strip of superb coastline together with
a marine reserve that stretches 5km off shore. The tour will finish
in Port Elizabeth, but make sure you have the chance to visit the
Monkeyland, Birds of Eden and the Elephant Sanctuary where you
can do a “Trunk in hand tour”.

to offer winter holidays where you can learn to ski or snowboard.
Whether you are a complete beginner, just want to improve your
skills on the snow or if you have a physical or cognitive disability,
we can cater for everyone! For many people with disabilities this
is a physical therapy as well as a therapeutic one, and there are so
many people out there with disabilities who think they can’t, or
won’t be able to ski, luckily with our expertise it is possible. It’s a
great way to over come personal barriers, to stay fit and get fresh
air and also a great way to gain confidence. When did you last
think you would be able to get to the top of a mountain? Let alone
ski all the way down!

mountain slopes to ski on each day, along with our multi-mountain

family or friends in the wonderful surroundings of New Hampshire,

mountains have over 100 qualified instructors,
which means safety is paramount. At the
main base lodges, there are great facilities

What is Accessible?
Indoor Surfaces
The hotels, villas and cruises appearing in this brochure are
included because, in our judgement, they offer a good level
of access for wheelchair users and those requiring a relatively
barrier-free environment. We do however recognise that each person’s
ability to access a particular environment will depend upon a number
of additional personal factors known only to that individual, and
therefore inclusion of a particular hotel in the Accessible Travel &
Leisure brochure does not imply ‘access for all’.
Please note: Continental flooring surfaces i.e. marble or
ceramic tiling can prove a hazard when wet. Caution should
be taken on such surfaces.
All accommodation, unless otherwise indicated, that
appears in our brochure has been visited by an Accessible
Travel & Leisure member of staff or one of its agents
and the descriptions represent their personal views and
impressions at the time of inspection.
We must emphasise that Accessible Travel does not own an
airline, hotels or indeed any adapted transportation companies.
We locate and contract the best providers of accessible services
and facilities that are available in each respective resort, or
country. It is therefore essential that you convey to our Travel
Advisors, ALL your exact needs and requirements, in order that
we can meet your expectations. We will help you select the most
appropriate destination in order to maximise your enjoyment
from a holiday, as we are more than aware of the varying levels
of accessibility, as well as the cultural attitudes, of each country.
Our Representatives
As independent travellers, your travel arrangements have
been tailored to meet your needs.
Our resort-based representatives (where appropriate)
will meet you at the airport or at an agreed time at your
accommodation, normally within a day of your arrival. Our
representatives are not hotel based and should be contacted
on the number provided should you have any issues during
your stay. In destinations where a local travel representative
is not available, you have the peace of mind in knowing that
we operate a 24hr emergency contact service here in the UK.
Transport
Wheelchair accessible airport transfers are available in the
majority of the destinations featured in this brochure. The type
of vehicle may differ between locations. Please advise us of your
specific requirements at the time of booking. In certain locations,
the private taxi transfers we arrange for you may require payment
on arrival. You will be advised accordingly.
Mobility Aids
Mobility aid rental of shower chairs, hoists, scooters, etc. is available
in most of the destinations featured in this brochure. Please advise
our travel advisors of your needs and they will ensure that you
choose the best destination to meet your requirements. Please also
see Key to property facilities and the hotel symbols.

Outdoor Surfaces
Whilst accessibility is generally improving in and around
European cities and holiday resorts, caution should be taken
with paving, kerbs, drop kerbs, pedestrian crossings etc., which
may not reach accepted UK standards. Standards may be even
lower in certain East European and developing countries.
Grab Rails
We visit scores of hotels, villas and apartments around the
world and have found very few with grab rails in precisely
the same position. We are able to show grab rails in
bathroom photographs but this may not represent the exact
positioning of the grab rails in all rooms. The presence of
grab rails is therefore only an indication that the proprietors
recognise the value of such aids and wish to enable guests
as much as possible. We cannot guarantee they will be in
positions to perfectly suit every individual and cannot be
held responsible if they have been removed due to damage
and wear and tear.
Medical Services
Where medical services, such as care, nursing, oxygen
supplies and dialysis, are arranged for clients, the contract
exists between the client and service provider and ATL
accept no responsibility or liability for any injury caused as
a result of these services.
Single Travellers
To ensure we meet individual requirements, if you intend
to go on holiday by yourself, you will be required to
fill in our ‘Independent questionnaire’ and also obtain
written confirmation from your GP, stating that you are
independent and can manage throughout the holiday we
will be booking for you on your behalf. Without these being
complete the holiday can not be confirmed.
Travel Insurance
Insuring against cancellation, delay, baggage loss, illness
and public liability is a must! Our own travel insurance
provides an excellent level of cover – even offering insurance
for wheelchairs whilst being carried on aircraft. Our travel
consultants will be pleased to answer any queries you may
have about travel insurance.
Things You Should Know About Flying
Wheelchairs and Flying
Airlines and airports are far from perfect when it comes
to assisting “less mobile” travellers, but they are improving
each year. The key to a successful journey is planning
and preparation.
Damage to wheelchairs whilst being loaded and carried in
the aircraft hold is not unknown. It is important that you
consider insuring your wheelchair against damage or loss
when being carried by air or other transport operators. Our
travel insurance policy provides automatic cover for medical
aids with an upper limit of £2000, whilst being carried
by airlines. Additional cover or cover for electric powered
chairs and other mobility equipment, is available on request.
What We Need To Tell The Airlines:
• What assistance you may require when boarding
• Type of wheelchair (manual/electric etc)
Manual Wheelchairs
• Weight of your wheelchair
• Any special dietary requirements
It is important that your chair is tagged like the rest of your
luggage. You should remove detachable parts and carry
them as hand luggage.
• Additional needs – oxygen, ventilator, etc
Electric Powered Wheelchairs
Please note that the specific requirements for each airline may
differ. Some airlines may require evidence that you do need
special services and we may therefore have to ask for certain
relevant additional information from you.
Again remove detachable parts – joy sticks etc. Ensure wheels
are disengaged from motor. Dry cell batteries should have the
battery disconnected and taped up. Baggage handlers will
normally assist. Chairs with wet-cell batteries, are not accepted
by airlines or cruise operators. Some airlines do have weight
restrictions on electric wheelchair’s due to hold size and
suitability. In serious cases this may result into your electric
wheelchair being denied loading. Always check the weight of
your chair first before booking your flight.
Seat Allocation
This is important! Airlines will rarely guarantee any particular
seat. Airlines often receive 20 or 30 requests for bulkhead
seats (which have the most legroom) on each flight. These
are normally allocated at check-in and priority tends to go
to babies who need sky-cots (mainly long haul). The seats
adjacent to emergency exits cannot be allocated to mobility
impaired passengers. Having said this, airlines normally
do their best to seat you in the most convenient location.
Always check-in early.
Medication and Personal Items
Remember to pack any medication or other personal items you
may need during your flight into your flight bag, as once your
suitcase has been loaded, it will be extremely difficult, if not
impossible, to access such items.
Oxygen
Airlines have very rigid rules about the supply of oxygen on
board their aircraft. Some airlines charge, whilst others may
not offer an oxygen service. Please discuss your needs with
one of our travel consultants at the time of booking.
Aircraft Aisle Chairs
A narrow seat on wheels used to transport those unable to
walk to their seats. As bulkheads are often over subscribed,
aisle seats with lift-up arms, offer the next best solution. The
Aisle-Chair will get you from the door of the aircraft to your
seat. Not the most salubrious mode of transport but one that
regular flyers will get to know only too well.
On Board
Toileting: You should consider your needs carefully,
especially on long haul flights. Most wide-bodied aircraft
have at least one ‘accessible’ toilet, but don’t expect
anything too spacious. Crew can assist you in getting to
the toilet, but can not assist you onto the sky chair if it is
required, and they can not assist you in the toilet, (hygiene
regulations). Most airports now have accessible toilets in
departure, but be aware not all tannoy systems work inside
the toilets.
Boarding
Mobility impaired passengers are often boarded first –
another good reason to check-in early! If you ‘Gate-Check’
your chair, you can stay in your chair right up to the
time of boarding. Ground staff will then transfer you to
your seat using the ‘aisle-chair’ and store your wheelchair
in the hold.
Most UK airports will have a sky bridge (walkway) or
hydraulic lift to take you straight to the aircraft door.
Many smaller ‘holiday destination’ airports may not have
these facilities. In this case restricted mobility passengers
will be transferred to special ‘skychairs’ and manually
lifted by ground crew up the steps and into the aircraft.
These are well-practised procedures and should not pose
a problem.

1. The Contract Between Us
6. Cancellation/Alteration By Us
When you sign the booking form you are confirming that you understand
and have accepted the information regarding the holiday, which has been
supplied to you. You are also accepting that our terms and conditions
form the basis of the contract between Accessible Travel & Leisure and
you. “Accessible Travel & Leisure” means Travelability Limited trading as
Accessible Travel & Leisure. The person signing the booking form must
confirm that he/she has the authority of all the persons included in the
holiday to make the booking on their behalf. The person who makes the
booking accepts responsibility for making payments to Accessible Travel
& Leisure for all members of the party and will receive all documents and
other information from us on behalf of the party.
Because we plan arrangements months in advance, we reserve the right
to make changes if necessary. Most changes are minor such as the
withdrawal of a facility; the need to change your hotel to another of
the same official category; the late opening or closure of an advertised
swimming pool; the alteration to the departure time of your transport of
less than 12 hours or less than 6 hours if your booking is for 4 nights or
less; a change of routing/carrier or a change to/cancellation of an event
(such as an excursion) at your destination. We will let you know about
this kind of change as soon as possible but we do not pay compensation
for minor changes.
2. Making A Booking
A booking will be accepted by telephone, fax or e-mail, which will be held
for an agreed period by Accessible Travel & Leisure. This booking will be
confirmed verbally to you and upon receipt of appropriate deposits and/or
balance payments confirmation will be sent to you in writing. You should
check the invoice carefully to ensure that it is correct. Any discrepancies
must be notified to us immediately.
3. Payment
Upon verbal confirmation from Accessible Travel & Leisure, a non
refundable deposit of GBP £150 per person from yourselves (or such
higher amount as may be required by any supplier), your booking will be
confirmed. The balance of your holiday costs will be due 10 weeks prior to
departure, unless otherwise advised at the time of booking. No reminder
will be sent and we reserve the right to cancel your reservation if the
balance is unpaid 10 weeks prior to your date of travel when cancellation
charges, as shown in these Terms and Conditions, will apply. Cheques
should be made payable to Accessible Travel. A handling fee of 2.5% will be
charged on any payments by credit card. Debits cards incur no charge.
4. Amendments
Until your booking has been confirmed, we reserve the right to make any
necessary changes. After confirmation we will take reasonable steps to
make changes requested. We reserve the right to levy an amendment fee
of GBP50 per person for alterations made 2 months prior to departure,
plus any further costs arising from the change. Alterations, including
a change of name, within 2 months of the date of departure will be
treated as a cancellation and will therefore be charged in accordance
with our cancellation policy as detailed in section 5.
5. Cancellation By You
If you wish to cancel your holiday, this must be done in writing by the
person who made the booking. The date of cancellation is the date it is
received in this office. Subject to section 5.2 the cancellation fees will be
a percentage of the total holiday cost based on the number of days before
departure within which notification is received by us as follows:More than 10 weeks - deposit
If we have to make a major change such as: an alteration to the
departure time of your transport of more than 12 hours or more than 6
hours if your booking is for 4 nights or less; a change of resort area (for
this purpose, a resort shall be classified as anywhere within a 40 mile
radius of your chosen accommodation for a country or beach holiday or
anywhere within a 5 mile radius of your chosen accommodation for a
city break); a change of departure or return airport/port (this does not
apply to airports within the same city); or a change of accommodation
to a lower category, we will inform you immediately and we will offer
you the following choice:
- Accept a different holiday of a similar standard (if one is available).
- Book another holiday with us. If it costs less than your original holiday
we will refund the difference; if it costs more you will pay us the
difference.
- Cancel your holiday and receive a full refund.
In all 3 cases cited (subject to the important note* below), you will also
be entitled to compensation as detailed in the table below, unless the
change or cancellation is caused by circumstance beyond our control, such
as bad weather, airport closures, industrial action, the hotel being closed,
epidemic, civil strife or terrorist activity, fire, flood, war, threat of war,
natural or nuclear disaster.
For travel-inclusive holidays:

*Important note: In respect of all holidays booked, Accessible Travel
& Leisure will not be responsible for any out-of-pocket expenses or
consequential or indirect loss you incur as a result of any change. We
will not pay you any compensation if you have not paid the full amount
for your holiday 10 weeks before departure. In the event of a change
to an accommodation only booking, Accessible Travel & Leisure will be
liable only in relation to the accommodation booked and we will not
be responsible for any indirect costs or losses or other out-of-pocket
expenses incurred.
Between 2 months and 35 days - 40%
Between 34 and 22 days - 70%
7. The Price
Between 21 and 15 days - 90%
As I am sure you can appreciate, with both the constant fluctuations of
currency exchange rates, as well as varying fuel prices and government
taxes, it is increasingly more difficult to publish exact holiday costs within
our brochure, which is prepared many months in advance of your travel
date. Furthermore, with both airlines and hoteliers regularly adjusting
their prices to reflect market demand, we prefer to provide you with
an up-to-date accurate price at the time of your enquiry. Upon verbal
confirmation of your booking, we will confirm the exact final price, before
payment is made.
14 days and less - 100%
If you cancel for a reason covered by your insurance policy you should
make a claim against the insurance company.
When the price of your holiday is based on the number of people booked
and a cancellation alters that number, then we will recalculate the invoice
based on numbers actually travelling. No refund will be given on any
unused portion of the booking and no booking is transferable.
5.2 Where you are booked on a scheduled flight or cruise, a higher
cancellation fee may apply as some airlines and cruise companies do not
permit any changes once a booking has been made.

We reserve the right to levy any additional charge should there be any
significant variation in costs including exchange rates, the cost of aviation
fuel or airport charges or increase in Government charges or levies. We
guarantee not to increase prices less than 4 weeks prior to travel.
8. Descriptions
15. Complaints
All descriptions of properties and services are made in good faith and
every care is taken to ensure their accuracy. However, owners of properties,
amenities, entertainment’s etc. may change their services from time to time
without notice and Accessible Travel & Leisure cannot be held responsible if
amenities mentioned in the brochure are not available. We shall endeavour
to notify you promptly, of any changes that are made known to us, prior
to your departure. If we are aware of building work or unusual noise at the
hotel you will be advised before you depart.
If you have a complaint about your holiday you must tell our local
representative and/or advise Accessible Travel & Leisure on the
emergency telephone number immediately. If you fail to do this we
cannot accept responsibility as we may have lost the opportunity
to investigate and rectify the problem. You must also write to
Accessible Travel & Leisure within 28 days of your return with full
details of your complaint.
All accommodation in our brochure has been inspected on behalf of
Accessible Travel & Leisure and in the opinion of our representative
the accommodation is suitable for use by a disabled person. However,
disabilities vary considerably and it is your responsibility to make known
to Accessible Travel & Leisure all special requirements you have. See
Paragraph 13. Accessible Travel & Leisure will not be responsible for any
changes to the properties or their contents after the date of inspection.
9. Travel Insurance
For the protection of your party it is a condition of booking that all
members must take out COMPREHENSIVE TRAVEL INSURANCE. This
policy must include cancellation cover; 24-hour medical and emergency
service, repatriation and a 24-hour emergency telephone help line. Clients
arranging their own insurance must do so immediately thereby covering
for the possibility of cancellation and subsequent loss of monies. Clients
must either purchase insurance through Accessible Travel & Leisure or
provide details of their own insurance when making their booking.
10. Holiday Accommodation
All villas and apartments offered by Accessible Travel & Leisure are
privately owned, and we act as an agent in the UK for the owners, or
their representatives. Only those persons named at the time of booking
may occupy the property. Breakages or damage must be reported to our
local agent immediately and the appropriate payment or replacement
made locally before departure. We will require a cheque for £100 that
will not be cashed, as security. If there has been a breakage or damage
at the villa, a claim may be made against you for the full cost of any
replacement items or repairs. We reserve the right to charge for any
breakage or damage, which is discovered after you have vacated the
property and which has not been reported.
11. Flight Arrangements & Other Supplies
By Third Parties
Scheduled flights and some other services are subject to the terms and
conditions of the carriers, some of which may limit liability. Please advise
of any special flight requirements such as special diets and assistance for
wheelchair users at the time of booking. Should you be advised of any
changes to flight schedules by the airline, tour operator or consolidator,
you must inform us immediately in order that appropriate arrangements
can be made for your arrival at the resort. IMPORTANT NOTE: Seat
allocations and other special services can be requested but not guaranteed.
Aircraft types are subject to change without notice by the airlines.
12. Claims & Liability
Any claim under this agreement shall be subject to English Law and
all proceedings shall be within the exclusive jurisdiction of the English
Courts. As part of our undertaking to provide your required holiday
arrangements it is necessary for Accessible Travel & Leisure to select
and make arrangements with various independent contractors including
hoteliers and coach transport operators. Accessible Travel & Leisure is
not responsible for the negligence or other acts or omissions of those
independent carriers, the hoteliers or other contractors, or their employees
or agents. Except for personal injury, illness or death, the maximum
amount we will pay for claims is the full holiday price.
13. Special Requirements
You must include full details of special requirements (and where
appropriate of your disability/medical condition) on the additional needs
form. These will include roll-in shower, hoists, special diets on flights etc. It
may be helpful if you give information as to the nature of your disability.
Accessible Travel & Leisure cannot guarantee that any of your requests will
be met but they will certainly pass them on to the relevant supplier. If any
of the facilities mentioned in the brochure are vital to you then you must
mention this on the additional needs form.
14. Data Protection
In order to process your booking it is necessary for us to collect personal
data from you and members of your party. In order to arrange your holiday,
we may have to pass some of that information on to the relevant suppliers
of your travel arrangements. Such suppliers may be outside continental
Europe. The information may also be provided to credit checking
companies and public authorities such as customs and immigration, if
required by them or by law. We may contact you or members of your
holiday party in the future to inform you about our services. If you do not
wish to receive such approaches in the future then please write to us. By
signing the booking form you confirm your consent to the use of your
data and that of your party members for these purposes.

16. Locally Hired Equipment & Facilities
Where requested, Accessible Travel & Leisure will endeavour to arrange
on your behalf the hiring of equipment from local suppliers at the
resort or medical services such as nursing, oxygen supplies or dialysis.
Accessible Travel & Leisure accepts no responsibility for ensuring that
this equipment or these services will be available for you or will be
suitable for your requirements. Unless otherwise stated you will be
responsible for paying the local supplier and you should ensure that
you take sufficient local currency for this purpose. Any loss or damage
caused by the equipment which you hire or services provided to you in
the resort will be the responsibility of the local supplier and Accessible
Travel & Leisure accept no responsibility for the selection or fitness for
purpose of the equipment or services supplied or for any loss or damage
caused by its use.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Health: If you are visiting an EC country, we strongly recommend that
you acquire the EHIC card. It is essential that all persons on medication
or under medical treatment obtain permission to travel from their doctor.
Some airlines require a certificate confirming `fitness to fly`.
Insurance: It is a condition of booking that you have adequate
insurance cover (see Conditions and Terms of Booking). You should read
the insurance policy document carefully. It will give you full details
of what is and what is not covered and the conditions of cover. Cover
will vary from policy to policy and insurer to insurer. HEALTH: OUR
POLICY CONTAINS RESTRICTIONS REGARDING PRE-EXISTING MEDICAL
PROBLEMS CONCERNING THE HEALTH OF PEOPLE TRAVELLING AND OF
OTHER PEOPLE UPON WHO THE TRIP MAY DEPEND. PLEASE READ THE
DOCUMENT CAREFULLY.
Your Flight: You should advise us at the time of booking should any
member of your party require assistance at the airport. The service
available to passengers with disabilities varies from airport to airport,
as does the means of transferring wheelchair users into and out of the
aircraft. This may involve manual lifting onto airport buses, aircraft steps
and aircraft seats. At most airports, this is a well-practised procedure.
Passports & Visas: It is the responsibility of clients travelling to ensure
they have a valid passport with at least a 6-month duration beyond the
return date to the UK. You should also check Visa requirements, as these
may be necessary for passport holders of certain nationalities. Accessible
Travel & Leisure cannot be held responsible for the cancelling of any
holiday as a consequence of incorrect or invalid documentation. No
refunds will be given in such circumstances. Please note that the one-year
Visitors Permit is no longer valid.
Special Diets: You should advise us at the time of booking should you, or
any of your party, require special diets in-flight. We can request these, but
not all diets are catered for. Special diets in your resort can be requested
but not always guaranteed.
Check-in/Check-out: To cover incidental expenses during your stay,
most hotels will debit your credit card or ask for a cash deposit if you
do not have one; please take this into account when planning your
holiday finances. On arrival, your room is normally available between
noon and 3pm. On the day of departure you will usually be asked to
checkout between 10am and noon, but most hotels will store baggage
until departure.
Financial Protection: To ensure the financial security of your holiday,
Accessible Travel and Leisure only secures flight seats with ATOL or
IATA licensed airlines, unless otherwise requested by you at the time
of booking, and acquires accommodation and transport arrangements,
from approved and verified suppliers. Furthermore, for any holidays not
covered under an ATOL agreement, (where Accessible Travel and Leisure
act as an agent of an ATOL licensed operator), usually those that do not
involve a flight being booked by Accessible Travel as part of the package,
we operate a trust account, in accordance with European regulations to
protect clients funds.
