WMM`16
Rome ‐ ITALY June 13th to 15th, 2016 SECOND ANNOUNCEMENT WMM’16
7th International Conference Magnetism and Metallurgy
Scope of the Conference
The series of International Conferences, Magnetism and Metallurgy was established in
2004 by the Institute of Metal Forming at the Technische Universität Bergakademie
Freiberg. The conferences 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012 took place in Freiberg. respectively
Ghent and were organized in cooperation of the Institute of Metal Forming in Freiberg
with the Department of Material Science and Engineering at Ghent University. The
conference 2014 was organized by the Cardiff School of Engineering. The 7th
International Conference Magnetism and Metallurgy WMM’16 will take place in Rome
and organized by the CSM. The WMM16 will be co-sponsored by “Associazione
Italiana Metallurgia” and “UK Magnetic Society”.
The aim of this series of International Conferences on Magnetism and Metallurgy is to
bring together scientists from universities and research groups working on the
development of magnetic materials, as well as electrical engineers from universities
and industry, who are engaged in applications of magnetic materials.
The WMM`16 will provide a general overview of status, trends and recent
developments in the field of “Magnetism and Magnetic Materials and their Application”.
The 7th International Conference Magnetism and Metallurgy will, like the previous
conferences, treat all aspects: techniques for producing the materials, technological
aspects, development of microstructure and relation to the properties, modelling the
evolution of microstructure and properties, measurements of the characteristic
properties, developments in the field of application of magnetic materials, aspects of
design. Invited papers will be presented by international experts on magnetism and
magnetic materials to cover the proposed topics of the 7th International Conference
WMM16. In addition a restricted number of exhibits and poster presentations will be
included in the program.
We expect the same kind of audience as at the previous conferences. More than 120
participants from 27 countries were present at the 6th International Conference
WMM14, in Cardiff. In addition to delegates from the academic world and from
research institutions, participants from producers of magnetic materials attended the
meeting.
Relevant steel companies were present including Wälzholz, Cogent, ThyssenKrupp
Electrical Steel GmbH, US-Steel, ArcelorMittal, Tempel Steel, JFE, Nippon Steel and
Sumitomo, Voestalpine, Magnequench, China Steel Corporation, AK Steel,
Auerhammer,
Cube
Steel,
Aperam,
Daido
and
Tata
Steel.
At the WMM14 conference, contributions from 27 invited speakers from 19 countries
as well as the 24 posters were presented.
The organizers of the WMM16 hope that the 7th International Conference WMM’16 in
Rome 2016 will cover like the previous conferences the latest developments and
demonstrate the progress in the field of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials and their
Application.

Conference Venue
The 7th International Conference Magnetism and Metallurgy WMM’16 will take place
in Rome at:
HOTEL EUROSTARS ROMA AETERNA 4*
Via Casilina, 125, 00176 Roma, Italy
The Eurostars Roma Aeterna, one of the most moderns hotels in Rome, born in the
summer of 2010, occupies the historical building that was once the headquarters of
the Serono Pharmaceutical Company, which has been totally refurbished to convert it
into a high standing hotel.
The result of the renovation work is a spectacular building combining the industrial
architecture of the beginning of the “Novecento” period with the most innovative trends
in interior design. The classical, straight lines of the façade become mischievous
inside to surprise with revolutionary curves, forms and materials. A gigantic glass
candle welcomes our guests.
Located in the heart of the district of “Pigneto”, subject of a plan of urban and cultural
redevelopment that has transformed it into a new trendy area of the capital, is it at
short distance from the historic centre of the Eternal Rome, just 1200 meters from San
Giovanni in Laterano Basilica and 2500 meters from Coliseum.
The hotel has 144 spacious, top quality, completely new rooms, equipped with the
latest technological innovations and daringly designed.
There are also 8 specially adapted rooms for disabled guests.
The restaurant, which occupies a spacious marble-lined salon that opens up onto a
large terrace, surrounded by gardens, is the ideal place to start your day with a rich
buffet breakfast as well as for lunches and dinners tasting the fantastic and exclusive
Chef Francesco Colloca's dishes.
Finally, the greatest attractions of the Eurostars Roma Aeterna is the capacity for
holding large and small conferences and meetings. The glass-roofed, Roma Æterna
Convention Centre is already the talk of the town, with various rooms with varying
capacities, from the Quirinale Lounge's 25 to the 190 of the Capitolina or over 200 of
the Palatina Lounge. These modern spaces, fully equipped, are shared between the
main structure of the complex and a spectacular glass cover who chairs the central
courtyard of the palace.

Guided Visit to Roman Sites: Departure by private bus
with English speaking local guide for a gorgeous panoramic
visit of the most emblematic sights, monuments and streets
of the Eternal City.
Starting from the larges boulevards of the EUR district, in a
few minutes we reach the historical centre, just crossing the
Aurelian Walls, a line of city walls built between 271 AD and
275 AD during the reign of the Roman Emperor Aurelian, that
enclosed all the famous seven hills of Rome.
Passing through the elegant streets of downtown, we can
admire the Basilica of St. John in Lateran, the cathedral of
Rome and the world, with its impressive façade topped by a large number of statues
of saints, and arrive in the hearth of the city to start a stunning walking tour between
monuments and ruins of Imperial Rome.
Admiring the Coliseum, the largest amphitheatre, symbol of
the Eternal City, built during the Empire of Vespasian in 72
AD, we proceed by foot along the Via dei Fori Imperiali,
enjoying the splendor of the ancient Roman Empire with a
wonderful panoramic view of the Roman Forum and the
complex of the Markets of Trajan.
The walking continue towards the Piazza Venezia with its
superb Monument to Vittorio
Emanuele,
the
monumental
staircases of Aracoeli and
Capitol and finalizing at the
Marcello Theatre.
Continuing by private bus along the Tiber River, admiring
the monumental bridges and the characteristic Tiberina
Island, we arrive in the zone of Christian Rome, with the
superb mole of Castel St.Angelo, the impressive St.Peter
Square with the baroque Bernini Colonnade, the gourgeus
façade and the great “cupola” of St.Peter Basilica.
Returning towards the imperial zone we pass along the Circus Maximus, the first and
largest stadium in ancient Rome could accommodate about 150,000 spectators, and
the imposing ruins of the Baths of Caracalla, and along the ancient walls of latinos
9
aqueducts vestigias, we arrive at the Via Appia Antica, the "regina iarum", mother of all
Roman roads, perfectly preserved as to the times of the Empire.
