Want to volunteer? We need volunteers to work as English teachers in the school. Prior
experience and Spanish not necessary. English fluency and enthusiasm for working with children
required. Minimum of 4 weeks. Discounted room and board packages are available for
volunteers.
During your stay, you will likely
notice the presence of small
children in uniform. We hope you
enjoy seeing and hearing our
students as they go about the
serious business of learning. We
have 54 children divided into 4
class rooms. Hacienda Mérida’s
profits help to support the school.
We are home to the Ometepe
Bilingual School, a free-of-charge
bilingual elementary school for
local children. We welcomed our
first kindergarten class in 2013 and
are adding a grade level and a
solar-powered,eco-designed
classroom (built from plastic waste)
each year.
Daily buffet - fresh lake fish, vegetarian
pizzas, squash chowder, pastas (pesto, tomato or
alfredo sauce), beans, brown rice, yuca, potatoes,
plantain chips or fresh baked multigrain brown
bread, salads & tropical juices. Buffet varies every
night and is available 60 % of the time.
Children 12 years old and under pay 50%
of the above price.
