into which they otherwise might have fallen. Pictures in
public collections, accessi bl e to everyone, are not likely to be forgotten;
pictures gathered for a special purpose for on ce anel for once only are
as gooel as burieel so soon as the privacy of their owner's residence
has embraceel them , anel it is only in reproeluctions, such as mine I
hope will be founel, that the worlel at large can e njoy to some extent
these hidel e n treasures.
Th e rep roelucti ons ment ioned in this li st are taken from pictures
at one time or th e othe r collecteel at th e Roya l Acaelemy, the N ew
Gallery and the Guilelhall, viz., th e R e mbranelt Exhibition of 18 99
(Roya l Acaelemy), the Van Dyck Exhibition of 1900 (z"bzd.), the
Exhibition of Flemish anel British Schools of [899- [900 (N ew Gallery),
the "Spanish Painters" Exhibition, [90 I (Guildhall).
