Although serious on-the-job accidents are
a rarity, Bruce Trail volunteers are ever
cognizant of the possibility and therefore
take precautions to minimize the ill effects
of such an occurrence. One such precaution is
Trimble Trail Reno
by Joan Richard
During the third week of August, Credit Valley
Conservation (CVC), a Bruce Trail landowner in
the Caledon Hills section, undertook a major
revamping of the Trimble Side Trail on the part of
the trail that overlooks Forks of the Credit Road.
The Trimble Trail is a very busy section and travels
steeply up from the road. Erosion has been an ongoing problem. A new product called Envirolok
was used. Essentially bags were filled with soil and
used as a retaining wall. Plantings will conceal the
wall in the future. Some steps and a boardwalk
were also rebuilt by CVC. CVC used community
youth, as well as their maintenance staff, for the
project. We thank CVC for their commitment to
repairing an important side trail in our network.
a new idea adopted by one of our clubs. The
‘medical alert’ tag has recently been adopted by one
of our clubs as part of the volunteer’s ‘equipment’ a simple plastic luggage-type tag which contains all
of the volunteer’s important medical information
needed in the event of an accident. On the ‘face
side’ of the tag is the volunteer’s name and address,
also the name and phone number of a ‘contact
person’ to be notified in the event the volunteer has
been injured in an accident. On the back side
(concealed) of the tag is all pertinent medical
information such as blood type and a list of the
volunteer’s medications. The tag is attached to the
volunteer’s back pack in a conspicuous and
accessible place. Quick action and vital information
can help avoid the serious consequences of an
accident.
