Hollywood Studios With Young Children – 10am to 5pm Touring Plan – Plan A - Without
Fantasmic
Let’s face it. Despite our best attempts, many of us won’t arrive at Hollywood Studios by
8:40am to take advantage of “rope drop” and will need to leave before the day ends. This plan
takes that into account and assumes you arrive around 10am with plans to stay until about 5pm.
It visits the attractions that most young kids will enjoy the most, including a mixture of rides and
shows.
Like with any Hollywood Studios Touring Plan, Toy Story Mania is the morning priority. By
10am, the line will likely be 60 or more minutes already, even if the overall crowd level is very
low and the Hollywood Studios is recommended. The ride’s capacity is too small and the
demand is simply too large every day of the year. During extremely busy times, you may see
waits of 200 or more minutes. Yes, you could watch Toy Story, Toy Story 2, and have time to
make a sandwich in the amount of time it takes to wait for a five minute ride. We need to get
FASTPASSes for Toy Story Mania by 10:30am or they will likely be gone. Because the
FASTPASS return time may be later than your planned departure time, it may not do you any
good to pick up FASTPASSes with a return time of 5pm or later. You will either need to stand
in line for the 60+ minutes, leave later than you had planned, or skip Toy Story Mania altogether
if you can’t stay late and have no intention of waiting in the standby line. There’s simply no way
around this – the waits at Toy Story Mania are almost always 60+ minutes in the afternoon and
there is really no opportunity to get in line with a shorter wait other than right after the Studios
opens and right before the Studios closes. We’ll plan to get FASTPASSes as soon as possible
and then return to Toy Story Mania to ride at the end of the day, if appropriate.
Plan A Vs. Plan B
Both Plan A and Plan B hit many of the same highlights. Plan A goes to Indiana Jones Epic
Stunt Spectacular, Honey I Shrunk the Kids Movie Set Adventure, and Disney Channel Rocks.
Plan B schedules Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show, Jedi Training Academy, and
Backlot Tour. Use whichever plan visits the majority of the attractions your group is interested
in or substitute for those attractions that you think you would enjoy more.
In Order:
1. If possible, have one adult or teenager gather the group’s tickets and have them walk to the
Toy Story Mania FASTPASS machine in Pixar Place to get FASTPASSes for everyone in the
group. Alternatively, everyone can walk to Toy Story Mania to get their own FASTPASS.
2. Head to the Honey I Shrunk the Kids Movie Set Adventure in the Streets of America.
Ideally, the children who will be playing and an adult will go here while another adult or
teenager is getting FASTPASSes for Toy Story Mania. The Movie Set Adventure doesn’t offer
much to do for anyone over the age of nine, but it will give kids an opportunity to use some

energy before we sit through Muppet Vision 3D and Indiana Jones next. If you’re running
behind, I would recommend skipping this attraction and continuing on to Muppet Vision 3D.
We’ll want to be in line for Muppet Vision 3D by 10:40am.
3. Continue down to see Muppet Vision 3D.
4. After Muppet Vision 3D, we’ll see the 11:30am Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular in
the Backlot. The show is located past Star Tours and Jedi Training Academy.
5. Have lunch. I recommend nearby Toy Story Pizza Planet, though you can also travel across
the Park to Starring Rolls Café on Sunset Boulevard.
6. Get in line for the Great Movie Ride at the end of Hollywood Boulevard and behind
Mickey’s Sorcerer’s Hat by about 1pm.
7. Exit and walk toward Sunset Boulevard for the 2pm Beauty and the Beast State Show.
8. We have some time to use the bathroom or get a snack before the 3pm Parade. Spots along
Hollywood Boulevard are popular, but you should be able to get a good spot about 15 minutes
before the Parade begins.
9. See Voyage of the Little Mermaid in the Animation Courtyard as soon after the Parade as
possible.
10. If time allows, see the 4:10pm Playhouse Disney (soon to be Disney Jr.) Live on Stage
show, also in the Animation Courtyard.
11. Walk back out near the Sorcerer’s Hat to catch part of Disney Rocks Live on Stage. The
stage is elevated and you shouldn’t have any problem getting a good view, even though you’ll be
walking up as it begins.
12. If your FASTPASS time is due, walk back to Pixar Place to ride Toy Story Mania. If your
time is later in the evening, it’s up to you to decide whether you want to continue on. A good
spot to rest is at the ABC Commissary counter service, which has plenty of seating and is well
air conditioned. A cool snack may buy you some time with cranky kids. You may also want to
walk through the Walt Disney: One Man’s Dream exhibit or do the Magic of Disney Animation
walkthrough and tutorial as well. If the Studios is not busy and there isn’t a Fantasmic, you may
also be able to get a reservation at one of the restaurants, which is a good way to spend an hour.
Skipped Attractions
Many of Hollywood Studios’ rides, attractions, and shows are 20 minutes or longer, making it
impossible to schedule them all in an abbreviated day. This Touring Plan schedules most of the
best attractions, but you might see more that your group will enjoy in the “B” version of this
Plan. Here’s what we skip and how to fit it in.

Journey into Narnia: Prince Caspian – This attraction is right next door to Walt Disney: One
Man’s Dream. There is rarely a line longer than 10 minutes and you’re welcome to replace
another attraction with it if you’re particularly interested in the Chronicles of Narnia. Keep in
mind that this is little more than an advertisement for Prince Caspian on Blu-ray and Disney lost
the rights to distribute subsequent Narnia movies.
Magic of Disney Animation – This is an interesting guided tour, but it may seem boring to the
younger set. If your child is interested in animation or drawing, I would recommend fitting it in
in place of one of the stage shows that sounds less appealing. The best part of the exhibit is at
the end, when there is an optional drawing tutorial where you will learn to draw your own
Disney character. It’s also in Animation Courtyard, near Voyage of the Little Mermaid.
Walt Disney: One Man’s Dream: Also in Animation Courtyard, this attraction can be subbed in
at any time. Since it’s “on your own time,” you can spend as little or as much time as you like.
There is also an optional 15-minute film that plays in an attached theater.
Mulch, Sweat, and Shears Bandscaping: This is a fun band to watch, but not necessarily worth
going out of your way to see. They play along the Streets of America and you may see them as
you’re walking to a nearby attraction. If you do and you have some time, stay and watch for a
few minutes.
Twilight Zone Tower of Terror (must be 40” or taller to ride) and Rock ‘N’ Roller Coaster
(must be 48” or taller to ride): This plan visits shows and attractions aimed at the younger set
and thus skips the two major thrill rides at Hollywood Studios. If members of the group want to
ride these two rides, I recommend obtaining FASTPASSes for them throughout the day. Those
planning to ride can use the FASTPASSes while the rest of the group watches Playhouse
Disney/Disney Jr. Live on Stage or Beauty and the Beast.
Backlot Tour: This is a lengthy ride (35+ minutes) that is nowhere near as much fun as it once
was. There is really only one “wow” moment that lasts about 90 seconds. With little time, I
don’t necessarily recommend substituting it unless it’s of particular interest. If you are
substituting it in, I would recommend doing so after getting Toy Story Mania FASTPASSes and
then doing Muppet Vision 3D later in the day.
Lights, Motors, Action Extreme Stunt Show: See Plan B for a Touring Plan that includes this
attraction; you can also see the 1:20pm show and reschedule Beauty and the Beast and Great
Movie Ride for later in the day.
Jedi Training Academy: This is fun if kids enjoy Star Wars, but isn’t necessarily a requirement
if they don’t. There are numerous shows scheduled throughout the day and it’s easy to switch it
for Beauty and the Beast, Muppet Vision 3D, Playhouse Disney, or Disney Channel Rocks.

Fantasmic: Fantasmic is shown on limited nights. If you would like to see Fantasmic, you will
need to visit the Studios when it is offering it and follow a touring plan that includes Fantasmic.
