his RV resort is so outstanding that owner Mike Pournoury
bought it twice. “I was a partner in a company that owned Abita
Springs RV Resort, and we sold it,” says Pournoury. “When I started my own company, Ocean Canyon, I bought Abita Springs again.”
Although Pournoury loved the resort enough to buy it back, it
wasn’t perfect. Since the purchase, he’s made improvements.
“We’ve fixed the roads and remodeled the clubhouse and rental
units,” he says. “Members are very happy about what we’ve done so far.”
But there’s a lot more to the resort than newly paved roads and
updated units. The dense pine forests, the pure air, the mineral waters
at Abita Springs and the great bass fishing in the resort’s private lake
assure guests will have an enjoyable stay.
There’s no need to do anything beyond relaxing in a comfortable
camp chair, but there’s plenty of opportunity to do much more.
“The special feature we offer at Abita is an abundance of family
activities that keeps all ages happy and busy,” says Pournoury. “We
just had a big crawfish feast, and every holiday is celebrated in some
special way. There are poker tournaments and fishing derbies and
tours to nearby casinos and a nearby brewery for a taste of Abita Beer.”
Then there’s the weather, fresh spring water, Cajun cuisine and
Southern hospitality that have been drawing visitors from nearby New
Orleans for more than a century. Those same amenities will keep you
coming back again and again.
