Opera seeks to remind us that the issues of
Johann Strauss’s Die Fledermaus are far closer
to home than 19th Century Vienna…An invitation
to a Masked Ball at an exclusive club in the city
provides the ‘well-to-do’ of Edinburgh with an
opportunity to forget their woes. However, for
Dr. Falke, the evening is his chance for revenge,
much to the delight of the Ball’s host, Mr Orlofsky.

St Cecilia’s Hall houses a world-famous
collection of over seventy-five early keyboard
instruments and a display of harps, lutes and
guitars. Many of the keyboard instruments are
maintained as playing examples. View some of
the most important, richly decorated and best
preserved instruments from Britain and Europe.
‘Must see’ items include the earliest surviving
British-made grand piano.

The world’s oldest purpose-built museum of
musical instruments displays its collection in
Victorian cases still containing their original glass.
European wind, bowed string and percussion
