We had 93 people in the hall and more arrived after for the bring and share lunch. At the end of the service there was a responsive Litany of release & blessing, where Phil, Shona and the congregation broke our commitment with each other. The choir sang a surprise Benediction ‘God be with you till we meet again’ Following the service there was a time to mingle, the food was being heated up and tables set. We waited for the Interim Moderator Rev Silvia Purdie to arrive, unfortunately Silvia had been held up due to the flooding. So the Rev. Steve Jourdain (Presbytery Central) kindly stepped up on Silvia's behalf, and Mr Ian Harris (LNI Synod) also spoke. Then we presented the Bettany family with their leaving gifts, they were overwhelmed with everyone’s generosity. For their memories, we had a copy of the late Colin Hiltons painting of our church framed for them to hang on their wall. We also gave them: a bread maker, a camera, a family board game and a craft trolley (for Shona’s card making). They will be leaving Levin on 4th July to Waimate where Phil will be taking up his new position. SERVICES FOR JULY. 10AM IN THE HALL Come along and support these people leading services this month: 5th July—Communion Rev. Bob Elyes 12th July Allen Little 19th July Glad Passmore 26th July Rev. Peter McKenzie (from UCANZ) PROUD GRANDPARENT CORNER INTRODUCING LISEI LEAUPEPE, (Grand-daughter of Margaret and Ron Burling.) Lisei has recently headed off to America to participate as one of a group of activity leaders at a Summer camp for girls. Her trip has involved two days travelling by air with three changes of plane and then by bus on the final leg to Camp Pinecliffe in Maine located on the edge of Crystal Lake. Her first few days in camp have been spent in briefings, group-bonding, and preparation for the arrival of campers. Just a few of the numerous photos she has posted on Facebook follow Well laden during a stop-over transfer Bonding activities and … ...a hint of activities to come Impressive grounds and lake The dining hall ready for the coming influx The team gets larger Psalm 23 for Busy People The Lord is my Pace Setter, I shall not rush, He makes me stop and rest for quiet intervals, He provides me with images of stillness, Which restore my serenity. He leads me in ways of efficiency, through calmness of mind; and his guidance is peace. Even though I have a great many things to accomplish each day, I will not fret, for his presence is here. His timelessness, his all-importance will keep me in balance. He prepares refreshment and renewal in the midst of my activity, by anointing my head with his oils of tranquility, My cup of joyous energy overflows. Surely harmony and effectiveness shall be the fruit of my hours, For I shall walk in the pace of my Lord, and dwell in his house for ever. It is said that membership of every organisation is made up of four bones Wishbones - wish others would do the job Knucklebones - knock everyone else doing the job Jawbones - talk about doing the job and do little else Backbones - carry the load and get on with the job What type of Knucklebone are you? School Holidays are in July: End of term 2: Friday 3rd July Start of term 3: Monday 20th July PARISH COUNCIL 17TH JUNE 2015 At its meeting on 17th June Parish Council once again had a full Agenda for consideration. It was the last such meeting to be Chaired by Rev Phil Bettany prior to his move South to Waimate. We discussed various matters of a routine nature but also elected Marshal Scott to be our Chair for the immediate future, and Viv Hudson will bring the Notices on Sunday mornings for the ensuing month. We were pleased to receive special Request for infant Baptism details of which will be made known nearer to the occasion. As part of matters related to the St Johns site, Councillors were briefed on the land story (History) which has been researched for presentation to the Methodist Church as we proceed to dispose of the old Church site. Council discussed potential to enhance use of the Church complex on Oxford Street and is very much aware we have not yet heard from Presbyterian Church Property Trustees. As part of the Worship Committee’s Report Council was interested to note we may well have a visit from Rt Rev Andrew Norton, Moderator of Presbyterian Church NZ in the not too distant future. The Preaching schedule was discussed and subsequently completed until the end of August. Rev Rev Gene Lawrence will Preach the Parish Vacant on June 28th, and over the following two months Sunday Services will have plenty of variety with various people having kindly agreed to lead Worship:July 5© Rev Bob Eyles 12 Allen Little 19 Glad Passmore 26 Rev Peter MacKenzie August 2© Rev Bob Eyles 9 Turakina Maori Girls 16 Peggy Jordain 23 Rev John Turton 30 Back-2-Church Allen Little A simple questioner has been prepared inviting fresh input / suggestions from the Congregation and this will be available in the pews news shortly. An issue of concern is how Levin Uniting Church is relevant for our Children and Young people.
