Untitled - The Field Company
We started the Field Company to create products that let you enjoy and simplify your life. We’re
beginning by reintroducing the romance of excellent cast iron cookware to America.
THE PROMISE OF CAST IRON
From crispy roasted vegetables, to flakey pie crusts, to a perfectly seared steak, cast iron’s heat
retention and knack for developing a natural non-stick surface benefits nearly every kind of
cooking. A cast iron skillet is capable, durable, and at home in most any context. Braise over hot
coals. Simmer on the latest induction cooktop. Serve at the table. Hang it on your wall. Then hand
it down to your grandkids.
Great tools are rare. They last a lifetime, and encourage us to slow down and to find joy in a simple
task done well. We created the Field Skillet as a beautiful, essential kitchen tool. By selling online,
we’re able to cut away the costs of other premium cookware and offer an heirloom American
product at a fair price.
AMERICAN HISTORY & SKILL
Starting in the 1880s, the highest quality cast iron pans were manufactured in the United States—
largely by the Griswold Company in Pennsylvania and the Wagner Company in Ohio. Sadly,
both companies shut down in the 1950s. Today, these vintage pans are highly sought after, still
outperforming new cast iron. We aim to change that with the Field Company No. 8 Skillet.
We painstakingly researched vintage cookware. We sought experts in thin-walled metal casting.
We worked with a research chemist to go deep on the science of cast iron seasoning. We consulted
with surface coatings specialists. We’ve pushed the bounds of what is technologically possible at
a fair price. We make our products in the heart of America. We design them with just the right
amount of flair in New York.
MEET THE FOUNDERS
Christopher and Stephen Field Muscarella are brothers. Stephen pursued graduate studies
in economics before realizing he loved making physical goods—and built custom, reclaimed
furniture. Christopher’s entrepreneurial career has spanned successful Brooklyn restaurants and
technology startups. The Field Company reflects our shared passion for great tools, doing more
with less, and a belief and appreciation that good food can bring people together.
