Collections this weekend (Feb. 6th & 7th)There will be one collection this week.: Thank you for your generosity.
As we move into the first calendar year of the collaborative - we have updated our accounts from our envelope vendor, Waltz Company so that each parish has the same collections each week. We have also updated our recording software through ConnectNow
to provide you with in-house annual accounting for your donations. We are now moving to unite our offertory tithing program. At
each parish there will be only one passing of the basket most weeks. Those with envelopes should put BOTH envelopes in the one
collection. There will also be envelopes at the doors of the church for the special collection. Each week we will tithe a percentage
of the offertory at each parish. This unified approach fits the mission of the collaborative and the Universal Church.
Please note that our change is procedural only. All of the offertory collection, by parish, remains with each parish as income for
financial receipt, per church and state laws.

join an all-female jazz band and hop a train bound
for sunny Florida.

Beautiful Mercy is written by Matthew Kelly
founder of Dynamic Catholic, and 26 other
incredible Catholic authors who witness to the
power of God’s mercy, provide simple,
practical tips on how to be an instrument of
that mercy, and bring hope to anyone searching
for deeper meaning in life. In this era of New
Evangelization, Beautiful Mercy extends an
invitation to rediscover God’s unconditional love so you can
share it with others. Giving and receiving mercy is central to
living the life God calls us to. The text is a perfect companion
for the Year of Mercy, but also a companion for you this Lent.
A limited supply of these texts will be available at the doors of
both our churches. Please take one & be inspired by its pages.
God’s mercy transforms human hearts; it enables us, through the experience of a faithful
love, to become merciful in turn. In an ever new miracle, divine mercy shines forth in our
lives, inspiring each of us to love our neighbor and to devote ourselves to what the Church’s tradition calls the spiritual and
corporal works of mercy. . . . For all of us, then, the season of Lent in this Jubilee Year is a favorable time to overcome our
existential alienation by listening to God’s word and by practicing the works of mercy. In the corporal works of mercy we touch
the flesh of Christ in our brothers and sisters who need to be fed, clothed, sheltered, visited; in the spiritual works of mercy –
counsel, instruction, forgiveness, admonishment and prayer – we touch more directly our own sinfulness. The corporal and
spiritual works of mercy must never be separated. By touching the flesh of the crucified Jesus in the suffering, sinners can receive
the gift of realizing that they too are poor and in need. By taking this path, the ‘proud’, the ‘powerful’ and the ‘wealthy’ spoken of
in the Magnificat can also be embraced and undeservedly loved by the crucified Lord who died and rose for them.
This love alone is the answer to that yearning for infinite happiness and love that we think we can satisfy with the idols of knowledge, power and riches. . . . ……...Let us not waste this season of Lent, so favorable a time for conversion!”
Lent 2016 - 40 Days of Mercy
From Lent 2016, Pope Francis. For full message see link on www.shstm.org
ABSTINENCE: Catholics over 14 years of age are bound to the obligations of abstinence. Abstinence is to be observed on Ash Wednesday and the Fridays of Lent. On days of abstinence, no meat may used. FAST: Catholics over 18 and up to the beginning of their sixtieth year are bound to the obligation of fasting. Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of fasting when only one full meal is allowed.
Two other meatless meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to each one’s needs, but together they should not
equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted but liquids, including milk & fruit juices are allowed.

Lent is a time to grow in holiness
and love of God and one another.
According
to
Mother
Teresa:
“Holiness is not the luxury of the few; it is a simple duty,
for you and for me.” Today’s Responsorial Psalm (Ps 138:1
-2, 2-3, 4-5, 7-8) offers us simple ways to make this Season
of Lent more meaningful - more holy - this year. Because
of all that God has done for us, we, like the Psalmist, can
begin to ‘sing His praises” to others. We can evangelize
more often just as our Church has asked us to do in this era
of the New Evangelization. During this Lent, we can share
more often examples of our personal experiences of God’s
greatness and goodness in our lives. Like the Psalmist, who
proclaims his decision to give thanks to the Lord with all
his heart for His great goodness and mercy, we, too, can
make a decision to more decisively examine the many
blessings we have to thank God for each day. We can
thank him, as the Psalmist does, for His ‘kindness and
truth.’ Finally, like the Psalmist, we can worship the Lord
more often at “his holy temple,” our Church. This Lent,
there are many Lenten devotions taking place in our parishes that will help us grow in faith and love so that our
hope for eternal life in heaven can be realized. See page 5
for some of our Collaborative Lenten offerings. Lent is a
time of to pray more, fast more and alms giving-sacrificing
of our time, talent, and treasure for the sake of others. Perhaps this Lent will be the time that you will say “yes” to the
many calls for volunteers in our Collaborative parishes.
Each time just one parishioner comes forward in response
to a specific need in our parishes, our whole faith community is strengthened. As Edward Everett Hale, a Christian
pastor and the 15th governor of Massachusetts (1836-1840)
wrote: “I am only one, but still, I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. And, because I cannot do
everything, I will not refuse to do what I can.” If God gave
His own Son-His own Life-for us, let us not refuse to do all
that we can for Him and His People. As the Psalmist reminds us: (God’s) right hand saves me. The LORD will
complete what he has done for me.” During this Lent, let us
remember our dependence on the Lord’s loving mercy and
kindness to us, His People, and let us then try to do all that
we can to praise, thank, and serve Him more each day.
Lifelong Faith Formation News & Notes
TODAY: Scout Sunday & Bake Sale: Sacred Heart Cub
Scout Pack 19 will have a bake sale in the Sacred Heart
Church lower hall immediately following the 9 AM and
11:30 AM masses.
FAMILY FAITH FORMATION WEEK: Regular
sessions will be held this week. Please remember to pick up
your family’s packet after each session. Thank you.
NEXT SUNDAY: The Daughters of St. Paul will be at both
Sacred Heart and Saint Thomas More Parishes after all the
Masses on the weekend of February 13th & 14th. These good
sisters use the media to evangelize. They will bring a
wonderful selection of materials which they publish. Be sure
to stop by and peruse their materials: Spiritual reading,
Lives of the Saints, books for Children, DVD’s, music and
more! These wonderful items will assist you with the faith
formation of your family and provide good Lenten reading.
Choose something to enrich your faith or to share it with
others! Additionally you can check out their website:
www.pauline.org.
Our Collaborative Parish Lending Library located at
Sacred Heart needs your help. If you choose to borrow a
book or video from the library, please be sure to sign out the
item and then return it after reading or viewing so that other
parishioners can enjoy it, too. We are most grateful to
Dolores Tranquillino, who spends many hours creating a
very attractive, well organized library section and cataloguing and updating our parish library offerings. Dolores also
writes the book reviews for our weekly bulletin.
Prayer Shawl Ministry: In these winter
months, we are busy with requests for prayer
shawls, scarves and blankets to offer to the
homebound, sick & hospitalized, those who
reside at nursing homes, the women and
babies served by Project Rachel, and homeless. Please join us in
this beautiful work of mercy. We are in need of many new helpers
to knit or to provide yarn for this ministry. Can you help? Skeins of
yarn may be brought to the Collaborative office at anytime or
brought to the sacristies before Mass. For more information or if
you can knit items in your home for those who need them so much,
please call Maureen at 781-337-6333.

Auto mechanic James Busbee (Michael Rapaport) is sent to fight during World War II. and he leaves behind
his wife (Emily Watson) and two sons, London (David Henrie) and Pepper (Jakob Salvati).
Pepper feels his father's absence most keenly, and can't wait for him to return home. An encounter with a
magician (Ben Chaplin) and advice from a priest (Tom Wilkinson) convince Pepper that the power to bring his
dad back safely may be within himself and his actions.
