Run With Perseverance
In my journey through reading Hebrews in the last few weeks,
God’s Word reminds me that I have been called to persevere:
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of
witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin
that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race
marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and
perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the
cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the
throne of God. Consider Him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will never grow weary and lose heart.”
Hebrews 12:1-3
I find great comfort in these words from Hebrews, for no matter the course set before
me Jesus has already travelled that path - for He is the pioneer of my faith, the one
that I follow. Jesus shares “flesh and blood” (Hebrews 2:14) with me becoming “like his
brothers and sisters [of which I am one] in every respect.” (Hebrews 2:17) This stresses the
humanity of Jesus and so I am challenged to understand and accept that He has gone on
ahead of me – He has blazed the trail, so to speak, and He has done what He did to save
me for eternal life.
The other great emphasis that Hebrews reinforces, is that Jesus is the source of my
salvation. Jesus is the “forerunner” who has entered into the true inner sanctuary ahead
of me and makes a way for me. This is something I could not have done for myself. Jesus,
the “great Shepherd of the sheep” – the notion of His sheep, is an image that reminds me
of His distinctive role in my life.
And so we are encouraged to keep running – to persevere, to endure, to keep our eyes
firmly fixed on Him always, remembering what He has already done for us. To hold fast,
firmly entrenched as pilgrims on a journey with Christ to eternal life as one body, one
spirit and one voice.

The future student leaders at Green Point Christian College spent three days away this last
week in Bible study and learning about being Godly leaders - leaders with a servant heart
- leaders who in the expression of their faith encourage others to accept and understand
what Christ has done for them on the Cross. Continue to pray for them as they undertake
this most important service for their God and Saviour.

Maths Olympiad
Herr Von Osten travelled throughout Germany early last
century with Hans, the genius horse who would use his front
right hoof to tap out the answer to mathematical questions
he was asked. It turned out however that rather than Hans
being able to count, he managed to give correct answers by
observing the body language of Herr Von Osten and members
of an audience. Osten and the crowd would lean forward
and become tense as Hans tapped away before relaxing and
nodding when he reached the right number. So if Hans could
figure out mathematical equations simply by watching people,
what might others determine about our lives if they observed
us closely? It is quite possible we needn’t say a thing for our
friends to realise what a difference Jesus has made in our lives.
Francis of Assisi once said, “Preach the Gospel at all times. Use
words if you have to”.
Congratulations to Declan and Jessica who scored five out of
five in this week’s Maths Olympiad. See if you can answer
Question 4: Two identical square pieces of paper are each
folded in half. One of the sheets is then folded in half a second
time to form a rectangle and the other is folded in half to form
a square. What is the ratio in simplest terms, of the perimeter
of the final square to the perimeter of the twice folded
rectangle?
Welcome
Jemilla, Keegan and Tirzah Harvey commenced their schooling
at Green Point this week,having moved recently back to
Australia from overseas. God’s richest blessing upon the entire
family as they settle to life on the Central Coast.
Mums’ Morning Tea
Next Monday 12 August all Junior School mums are invited to
morning tea in the Jacaranda Room from 9.15 am. Toddlers

Artist in Residence
Jo Francis was unable to be with us last week so the lessons for
5/6B and 3/4D are to be rescheduled. This week on Thursday is
the turn for Mrs Smith’s and Mr Turner’s class.
House Sport
After some very close Semi Finals last week, this Friday the
Finals take place. Children in Primary are welcome to wear
their House shirts instead of normal PE shirts.
Band
Just a reminder that the Junior School Band is practising on
Thursday mornings in CAPA 11 at 8.00 am. Enquiries to the

Science Week
Next week the Science Department will run exciting activities
for the Junior School children at lunchtime. Highlights include
a Magic Mud Run aka The Swamp Run, as well as a show where
there will be fire and explosions. Students can also win prizes
by drawing a picture and writing briefly about an invention by

Year 9 Elective Subject Choices
Exciting times for our Year 8 students! This is the first opportunity that students have had
to make choices about their education. On Tuesday evening students and their parents
had a chance to taste a piece of each subject on offer for their studies in Years 9 and 10.
This is the first part of the process in choosing electives for Years 9 and 10. Students need
to submit their Elective Preference forms to their Home Teacher during Devotions on
Friday 9 August.

Middle School News
Uniform
Please note that correct uniform is to be worn at all times. This is a requirement of all
students and includes correct shoes and blazers. On the whole students have been very
positive about uniform however there are always a few who feel it is their right to take
liberties and design their own look. It is unfair on every other student who does the right
thing. If a student does not have the correct jacket they need to come to the Office and
borrow one for the day.
The length of some girls' skirts has become progressively shorter and they need to be worn so
that the skirt meets the top of the knee and not half way up the thigh.

This is a reminder that the 40 Hour Famine is running again within the school with many
students taking part in this worthy cause. World Vision does a great job in so many areas to
help the poor in this world. Please support the many participants in this endeavour. For more
details please contact Mrs Lumby in the TAS Department. I know we can reach our target of
$22,000 and think of all the good it can do in such a needy world.

Famine launch in Chapel.
I was fortunate enough to take part in the 40 Hour Famine Leadership Day on 30 May.
Throughout the day the students from GPCC were taught many great skills in leading the 40
Hour Famine Program at the College. On the day it was very impacting to see that children
younger than I am experience such terrible things that I will never experience. The other
students and I thought it was wrong that kids in Malawi don’t receive the basic human rights
such as: right to food, health care, right to an education and to water. I believe that we are so
blessed by God to have these things and most of the time we take them for granted.
I have become a 40 Hour Famine Leader to spread awareness on the poverty problem in
Malawi and many other countries. On 16-18 of August, I will be giving up furniture and speech
to help spread the word of the poverty that is happening around the world and hope to make a

40 Hour Famine
The 40 Hour Famine 2013 kicked off in High School Chapel last
week. The Chapel Service focused on the truth that we have
been blessed with so much and that God calls us to look after the
poor. The key verse for the Chapel Service came from Proverbs
3:27-29 (The Message): Never walk away from someone who
deserves help; your hand is God’s hand for that person. Don’t tell
your neighbour “Maybe some other time” or “Try me tomorrow”
when the money’s right there in your pocket. Don’t figure ways
of taking advantage of your neighbour when he’s sitting there
trusting and unsuspecting. A big thank you to Mrs Lumby and her
team of 40 Hour Famine Leaders: Heather Alcorn (10), Bethany
Capps (9), Hephzibah Crossing (10), Ally Georges (11), Alex Kaalim
(10), Aidan Morley (9), Elliahn Morrow (11), Laura Smith (11),
Tanya Verster (11), and Emily Willis (10).
Students wishing to sign up should see Mrs Lumby or one of these
leaders. The 40 Hour Famine will be over the weekend of 16-18
August.
Cambodia Team Fundraising Walk
On Sunday 25 August, the team of Year 10 and Year 12 students going
on the Samaritan’s Purse Discovery Trip to Cambodia in December
are taking part in a fundraising walk from Woy Woy to Gosford to
help with their personal fundraising for this trip.
The team have been busy throughout the year raising funds for
educational projects for Samaritan’s Purse raising approximately
$6,000, and we now want to support them in their personal
fundraising.
If you would like to support and sponsor the team in this Fundraising
Walk you can do this at the College Office.
Blackout 2013
Congratulations to the students who participated in ‘Blackout’,
raising funds for the Persecuted Church by going without social
media or other forms of communication on the weekend of June
29-30. We raised over $400 for Open Doors who seek to serve and
support persecuted Christians throughout the globe. Well done to
Maddison Beeforth (11), Mia Ferry (7), Heidi Graham (7), Charlotte
Moules (7), Kye Sheather (7), Anne Spragg (10) and Beth Tooby (9).

Athletics
Last Friday, our Secondary Athletics Team competed at the Zone Carnival at Glendale. We are still waiting on the results and
these will be published in next week’s Newsletter. Thank you to all who participated and watch this space next week for the
report.
Netball
The Zone Netball Gala Day is fast approaching and is on Tuesday 3 September. Students please make sure that you get a note
from Miss Simpson and listen out for training times in the Daily Notices.
Junior School
Netball NSW Schools Cup
On Wednesday 24 July our two Senior Girls Netball Teams competed in the Schools Cup at Adcock Park, Gosford. Twenty two
local schools were entered. Our top team, GPCC Blacks, were victorious, easily winning their Pool. They were undefeated
throughout the day. Girls you were sensational, playing amazing Netball, and should be very proud. Many thanks to Lisa Poll for
coaching this team, and Brittany Morgan (Year 9) for umpiring.
GPCC Reds, our second team played great Netball, won two from their seven Pool games and gave their best. They had a very
tough Pool and gained much experience from the day. Many thanks to Maddie Poll (Year 9) for umpiring the girls and also to the
family members who rugged up and cheered to support the teams.
Apart from playing great Netball, these young ladies represented our College beautifully. They were indeed a pleasure to be with
for the day. Girls, well done you are indeed winners. Thanks for the many hours of training and commitment you give to the
game of Netball.

GPCCNC Netball News
Our Wonderful Netta Teams have had a terrific season with Green Point Netball Club.
It was the GPCC 8s local derby this week, with a great game played between the Angels and the Go Girls. It was played in great
spirit and the Go Girls put in one of their best performances so far, despite being a player down. Lots of great passing and
movement down the court, and big smiles all round. Well done to all the 8s. Coach Madeleine
The Angels 8s won in a wonderful
game of Netball on Saturday,
against Go Girls. In a sea of red and
black, all girls played their hearts
out. The score finished on 7-2, well
done girls! Excellent games from
Mikayla and Jessica, and a very
good constraint game from Nakira
playing Centre for the match. Well
done Angels. Coach Danielle
The 10C No Fear Team show good determination and spirit despite being defeated by the
TW Nemos on Saturday. Our girls displayed strong defence skills and there were some
excellent jumps for intercepts, nice work girls! There were also some great shooting
attempts from further out. Coaches Tala and Meaghan.

Seasons For Growth
Course
Running in Term 3 for students in Years
5-8
Seasons For Growth is for students that
have experienced grief as a result of
separation, divorce or death of a loved one.
It is an eight week interactive educational
course helping students understand grief.
The program is not counselling or therapy,
it is an opportunity for students who have
experienced some sort of significant loss in
their life to gain insight and understanding
of their experience. Seasons For Growth
uses the images of the four seasons –
autumn, winter spring and summer to help
understand that life is always changing,
that one season follows the other and
there are ways to help navigate the seasons
in our life.
