ow How!
It is hard to believe that the YIG/YIP
2009-2010 Program is almost over. I guess
the saying, “time flies when you are having
fun”, is the real deal! All you have to do to
confirm how much fun we have had this year
is open up a Smoke Signal and take a quick
look at the numerous photos of dads and
their kids smiling from ear-to-ear while they
participate in our special events. I am so glad
we were able to bring back hard copies of
the Smoke Signal. Every month, my daughter
tells me that she can’t wait to receive the new
Smoke Signal. Truth be known, I share her
excitement! It really is great to see all of the
pictures and read about what other tribes are
doing. We are all very lucky to have such a
dedicated group of dads who make this
program flourish in the manner it does!
I hope you all had a great time at the
Indian Guide / Princess 100 brought to you
by our War Chief (and our Smoke Signal
editor) Tony Siff. Further, how lucky are we
to have our own Tim Huddleston racing on
the track!!! Thanks again to both Tony and
Tim for making this event so much fun!
As always, the fun continues on May 2,
2010, courtesy of our Dodger Day War
Chiefs Curt Knabe and David Lam! I hope
to see you all at the field in your vests and
having a great time!
Finally, we will complete our 2009-2010
YIG/YIP Program with Spring Camp at
Leo Carrillo State Beach, courtesy of our War
Chief Fred Clarke! Fred has put together a
very special Spring Camp event this year.
Malibu Makos Surf Club will be teaching us
all to surf! This will definitely be a Spring
Camp to remember! Be there or be square!
On a final note, please remember to
support our STRONG KIDS CAMPAIGN
as best as you can so that members of our
YMCA YIG / YIP Program who are not
able to participate in the Program to the extent
they desire because of certain financial
constraints they are currently experiencing,
can do so. As you all now know, the Strong
Kids Campaign is our way of ensuring that
everyone who wants to participate in the
creation of life-long memories with their child
is given a full opportunity to do so. Help
support the STRONG KIDS CAMPAIGN
by attending Triunfo YMCA Casino Night
on June 19, 2010 at Los Robles Greens. It is
going to be a blast! Call the YMCA for more
information.

Tribes!
How How from Crazy Bear and the
West Navajo Tribe! The tribe is having a great
year packed with adventures , crafts and
activities. The Girls and Dads have been
working extra hard building soapbox cars for
the big race April 18 and enjoyed competing
in this time honored tradition!
Chippewa
How How from the mighty Chippewa!
We had a great time at Mike & Max’s for our
April meeting and the Guides had so much
fun coloring eggs for Easter. By now we
probably have gone to the Indian Guide 100
auto race and had an awesome time. We look
forward to the Dodgers game and our last
event of the year which is Spring Camp at
Leo Carrillo Beach. See you all there!
Wigmuke
Notorious third year tribe, WIGMUKE,
rolls out the fun at the month’s first event:
YMCA Skate Day! A great time was had by
all in attendance! But the real fun started at
our monthly meeting, hosted by Mike &
Isabell Rogerson! The girl’s enjoyed their craft
almost as much as they enjoyed the baby back
ribs! It’s a good thing we enjoy eating, because
WIGMUKE needs all the energy it can get
to prepare for upcoming events!
WIGMUKE Veteran Fred Clark and his
daughter Alexis are War Chiefs for this year’s
Spring Camp. It will take a lot of planning to
out do Richard ‘Prime Rib’ Johnson, but Fred
& Alexis might just be putting on a clinic of
their own…More information to
follow…Just hang in there & Hang Ten!
Conejo Cubs
Last month we met at the Hennessy
teepee where we had a great meal of pizza,
lasagna, and desserts. The boys had lots of
fun in the back yard and on the trampoline.
For our craft we made colored vases and
flowers for our Moms. This month we’ll be
going to the YIG 100, and to the Jacobs
teepee for our meeting. Next month we are
all looking forward to the Dodger Game and
Spring Camp!

Casino Night
This month we have the ever favorite
Rain Gutter Regatta at 10 AM on May 8.
After the unfortunate incident with Chief
Rosen and the elephants at the Santa Barbara
Zoo, we know that this annual favorite will
be at least be a success. There has been some
posturing among the fathers about who is
going to win the race, but fortunately we were
able to get back to a civilized level.
Join us on May 8 when your children get
to make their own boat and then race them
in rain gutters. If you haven’t done this before,
it’s actually quite a good time. Not only that,
but this will give you the excuse to go
shopping for that Mother’s Day present you
forgot to get right afterwards, as this event
usually lasts about an hour.
And, of course, don’t forget about our
monthly Papoose meeting at Nico’s in Oak
Park.
Have a great month.

Papago
The Papagos have much to celebrate this
Spring. Our Night of the Papago in March,
hosted by Princess Bebe and her father, Jeff,
featured a St. Patrick’s Day themed craft giant green leprechaun hats. After celebrating
a traditional meal of corned beef and
cabbage, the tribe also observed its traditions
of story time, the wampum circle, and closing
ceremony. Our next Night of the Papago in
April, hosted by Princess Maddy and her
father, Destry, was doubly special as the tribe
got to sing “Happy Birthday” to Maddy who
turned 7 that week. Happy Birthday, Maddy!
Not to be outdone, Princess Caroline
celebrated her 7th birthday at the finish line
of the Boston Marathon, where she greeted
her father, Mike, who ran his first Boston
Marathon. Happy Birthday Caroline – and
congratulations Mike! Keep it up, Papagos!
Dakota
Roll On Down! Spring is almost here
and the Dakota Tribe kicked it off with 2
great events. The girls hit the rink, many
skating for their first time. Fortunately help
came from the dads (and 1 mom!) who made
sure everyone made it around the rink without
too many falls. With tunes from Madonna
and Michael Jackson, it was a great 80’s
flashback! Just a few days later everyone met
up at Regan’s Tee Pee for our monthly
meeting. We discussed upcoming events for
the seeing the Dodgers, Bubble & Snore
visiting the zoo and Spring Camp. The girls
were very excited about taking surf lessons.
Everyone is looking forward to hanging 10.
For the craft the girls learned about origami
and made paper boxes. Once crafted, the
girls decorated the boxes with many stickers.
As much as the girls loves the stickers, the
Mochi ice cream was a bigger hit! See you
next month!
Tonkawa
We hope all the big and little braves had
a wonderful spring vacation. The Tonkawas
are gearing up for our last outings together
as guides. We’re revved up about the Day at
the Races and can’t wait to take a swing at
Dodger Day. Our chiefs are working extra
hard to finish up the year in style. We’ll see
everyone soon (if we haven’t seen you
already.) How How!

News from the
Trailblazer
Nation
How How, Trailblazers! Our appreciation
hails to the Supreme Overload of the
Soapbox Derby, Neil Ticktin, who reigned
over another successful Soapbox Derby on
Sunday, April 18! Kudos to all the clubs who
raced vehicles as imaginative as J Preston’s
“Back to the Future” De Lorean masterpiece,
complete with flux capacitor, which was
clocked at a time-shifting 88 miles per hour.
Much obliged also to the entire staff of the
Triunfo YMCA for making Healthy Kids
Day an enjoyable and educational success.
It’s now fourth and goal for our
Trailblazer year, with Pepperdine Baseball
(May 23) and Kern River rafting and campout
(June 4-6) on the horizon. Be sure to sign up
for both of these events today! Lindsey
Green, the event boss for Pepperdine
Baseball, promises another sunny day by the
Waves’ diamond, with the Pacific Ocean
glistening in the background. And Tony Siff,
the event boss for Kern River and our soonto-be-crowned Trail Council Boss for the
2010-2011 school year, promises raging
torrents, flooded with rivulets of cascading
waterfalls of creative alternatives, at Kern
River in June! (Apologies to Mel Brooks and
Harvey Korman.)
Remember to register for the Triunfo
YMCA’s Casino Night – the dice will roll
on Saturday, June 19 starting at 6 PM, at
the Los Robles Greens, 299 S. Moorpark
Road, Thousand Oaks. Enjoy dinner,
try your luck at craps and blackjack, bid
on silent auction items, and go for broke
in our Texas Hold ‘Em Poker
tournament. And all proceeds support
the Strong Kids campaign of our Triunfo
YMCA, so that everyone in our
community can participate in our
excellent programs! Luck be a lady on
June 19!
Finally, Trail Bosses are invited to join
our last Trail Council meeting of the current
school year. Our final Trail Council meeting
will be held on Wednesday, June 2 at 7 PM at
The Alamo Restaurant, located at 5617
Kanan Road (at Thousand Oaks Boulevard),
next to CVS, in Agoura. The first round
drinks for our loyal, hard-working Trail Bosses
is on me!

With only 1 month remaining (April is the last month to earn
points), several tribes have already entered the Order of the White
Buffalo, while several are knocking on the door. If you have not
entered points yet, don’t fret: there is still plenty of time to gather
your tribe’s White Buffalo points. You only need 800 points to
qualify.
We hope that you guys are all starting to get how it works! If
not, please visit http://www.ymcasmokesignal.com/
