O God grant me this boon, That I sever not ever
from
Thy righteous path,
That fear overtakes me not when I fight my
enemies,
And yet, when I fight, I fight to win,
That I am instructed by no one but higher mind,
That I Crave ever to sing Thy praise,
And when cometh the evening of my life,
I die fighting in thick of a holy war.

IMPORTANT INFROMATION AND ANALYSIS OF
ADMITTED ADDICTS
Jeewan Aas De-addiction and Rehabilitation Centre, Hoshiarpur
Telephone 01882-509513,239289
Drug abuse particularly among youth is a major problem all over the world.
It is speciously affecting not only innocent lives but also societies and economics.
The substance in our country particularly of drug, paan masala, gutkha as well as
liquor and tobacco has assumed alarming proportions. The menace of drugs and
intoxicants is posing a serious threat to our social set up and badly harming
health status of the citizens.
Drug abuse has reached at serious level in Border States of India
particularly Punjab. The state is in a serious grip of not only alcohol but also
opium, poppy husk and now synthetic drugs may be sedatives, painkillers
tranquilizers or cannabis etc. There have been reports that not only adults but
now youth, woman and even kids of primary standard classes have started
taking drug due to various reasons.
Following variables were used:1. Age group of addicts
2. Educational level
3. Marital Status
4. Professional status
5. Income group
6. Age of first use of drugs
7. Causes of addiction
Important information and study comprises of
239 patients who
were treated from JEEWAN AAS DE-ADDICTION CENTRE run by Shubh
Karman society during the year 2007-2008.
ANALYSIS & FINDING: Data reveal that majority of clients belonged to
rural area.
Age group: Majority of clients (80%) belonged to age group of 15-35
years (Table-I). The data shows that most vulnerable group is 21-25 years
followed by 26-30 years. Considerable addicts (19%) were below the age of
20 years which is of serious concern. Only 23% addicts were above the age
of 40 years.
