Long-time HVSC member
Herb Eschbach has
informed me of his
resignation as a member of
the club's Board of
Directors, citing personal
reasons. This was
unexpected and came as a
shock. Herb wrote:
Since joining the Hudson
Valley Ski Club approx 20
years ago, I found a
"family" that became a
part of my life; so much
so that my involvement
overshadowed other
interests, but certainly
without regret. It has
been an honor to serve in

its members. I've had the
pleasure of serving on the
board with Herb for several
years during which I came
to appreciate his system of
values, his practice of
careful evaluation and
reaching decisions, and his
consistent belief in the
Club's importance. We will
all miss him as a member of
the board, but are pleased
at the prospect of
continuing to share with
him that "euphoria and
laughter" and runs down
the slopes. Thanks, Herb,
for what you have meant to
the Club ..... thus far!

Cancellation/Refund Policy for HVSC Ski
Trips
1. Minimum cancellation penalty
is $100 for weeklong trips and
$25 for shorter trips.
2. Cancellation requests must
be in writing and will take effect
the date they are received by the
trip leader.
3. Penalties vary from trip to
trip. Anyone who cancels from
a trip will be assessed penalties
as per our contract with the
vendor. Whatever the club
loses, the person who cancels
will lose plus the $100
cancellation penalty, however,
the penalty will not exceed
the total cost of the trip.
4. Refunds will not be
issued until after the
final accounting
of the trip.

INSURANCE. The
price for trip
insurance runs
approximately 7% of the
trip cost. An option to
purchase trip insurance “for any
reason” may be available. If you

Application/Waiver Form
appear separately?
I try to keep the appearance of
the online version of the
newsletter the same as the
hardcopy version; however, in
the case of this particular form
pair it is better to separate
them.
The hard copy printer actually
receives two source files; one
the newsletter as you see here,
the other is the form pair with
which these two pages are
replaced.
Printing the form from the
“How to Join” page is also
preferable. Since only those
two pages are in the file, you
needn’t “worry” about which
pages to print.
This way the form pair that
you print out on your
computer from the “How to
Join” page is identical to the
one from the hardcopy
newsletter. That makes Pete
very happy.
In the future, if this two page
fill bothers folk, I could always
make a six-page version of the
newsletter with these pages
elided available.

Appalachian Trail Restoration
July 10,11,12
Once again this July Jim
Gahn and I [Tim
Messerich] will be
working with
RPH Cabin
Volunteers
restoring
locations
on the
Appalachian
Trail in
East
Fishkill,
Hopewell Junction,
Stormville and Fahnestock State Park. This
[year’s projects] are the
most ambitious to date.
Painting projects first.
Details: paint the Seth
Lyon Memorial Bridge
just behind the RPH
Cabin; paint Jim’s new
bridge in Stormville, NY;
and, the RPH Cabin interior is in need of some
serious wall to ceiling
recoat. Brushes and
other supplies will be on
hand.
Also during the week-
end we will be building a
small tent platform behind RPH and repairing
the damaged wooden
tread way at RPH.
Constructionskilled folks
and wheelbarrow
operators
are more
that welcome on
this one.
Invasive
species
have been killing trees behind RPH and
other locations along the
Appalachian Trail. So we
have been removing
them as best as we can.
During the weekend we
hope to plant a few new
trees to offset this worsening blight. Gardening,
clipping tools and gloves
are highly recommended.
Fahnestock State Park
is the location for our
major trail restoration
project. One hundred
feet of washed-out trail
will be restored. This
project will be coordinated by the Jolly Rovers
Trail Crew plus a number
of skilled volunteers from
within our ranks. Heavy
duty trail work not your
style? Do you like to
COOK? Help in that department would be great!
Remember we feed everybody! The BBQ plus
breakfast, lunch and dinner the entire week end.
Plus there is camping on
the grass lawn of RPH
Cabin itself.
Come on out and
spend the week end or
just a day. Meet the folks
who are walking from
Georgia to Maine.
