Although Summer is almost over, there’s still plenty to keep
you busy in Wyndham in the coming months.
Fromage a Trois Cheese and Cider Festival returns for its third
year and promises to showcase the best cheeses, ciders,
wines, beers and local produce that Australia has to offer.
The event is part of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival
and we are providing you with a chance to score yourself a
double pass to this fantastic event.

together and advocate for the betterment of our community.

REDEVELOPMENT OF CHIRNSIDE PARK
Late last year, Wyndham City received a double dose of good news with the Federal Government’s
announcement of $3.25 million for the redevelopment of Chirnside Park and the State Government
committing $1.5 million - meaning it’s game on for the project.
The project will create a community and
sports hub for local residents to connect
and participate in activities ranging from
AFL football, cricket, community education
and programs like the North Melbourne
Football Club “Huddle”. The ‘Huddle is
an award winning program that brings
together young people from migrant and
refugee backgrounds.

• Sporting pavilion
• Sports based training spaces
• A grandstand
• Commercial kitchen and cafe
• Multi-purpose social, meeting and
community spaces
• Media rooms
• Coaches spaces
• Landscaping and car parking
Wyndham City is contributing up to $5.5
million for the project, which is the result
of a collaborative effort between Council,
the Werribee Football Club, AFL, VFL, State
and Federal Governments and the North
Melbourne Huddle.
Works on the project are expected to start
in mid-2016.

A taste of things to come
at Saltwater
The finishing touches are being put on
Saltwater Community Centre which
features a community arts studio,
exhibition space, meeting rooms, indoor
and outdoor kitchens, maternal and child
health facilities, kindergarten, community
garden and an outdoor amphitheatre and
stage.
There’s plenty of space for all kinds of
classes and activities - Yoga or learning a
new language, music or art classes, dancing
or photography.
Once the Centre is open, there will be a
series of taster sessions to give people an
idea of the things they can participate in.
The Centre is expected to open for classes
in March, 2016.

Wyndham City has launched its online
multicultural storybook, inviting people
who have come to live in our municipality
from across the country and across the
world to share their stories.

Wyndham neighbourhoods are diverse, with people from many
different nationalities and cultures. There’s great range of
restaurants on Watton Street and the ever-expanding Pacific
Werribee. One of the first things I did on moving to Wyndham
was start volunteering with the Sudanese Australian Integrated
Learning System (SAILS), tutoring high school students in science

My grandparents moved to Australia 30 years ago, originally
settling in Sydney when my mother was very young. My mother
completed her high school in Australia, but returned to Pakistan.
My grandparents then moved to Wyndham and when we would
come to visit, we loved the safe and lively environment in Hoppers
Crossing. So, a couple of years ago, when it was time for me to start
my University studies, we moved to Hoppers Crossing – Australia

studies in Biomedicine at Melbourne University.

Young people can drop in or pre-book an
appointment with the female doctor or nurse
about health matters, including:
• Contraception: free condoms, advice about all methods including implant fitting
• STI (sexually transmitted infections) testing and treatment

An Urban Design Framework has been
prepared that will provide a long term
vision for how the Princes Highway
- Geelong Road Corridor, a major
gateway entrance into Werribee and
suburbs beyond, can be brought to
life.
The aim is to improve the overall
appearance of the corridor,
commencing from the Werribee turnoff and it continues into the Werribee
City Centre, running down Synnot
Street, crossing the Werribee River
and continuing south-west down the
Geelong Road and connecting back to
the Princes Freeway.
Following initial consultation, the
draft Urban Design Framework is now
out for public comment.
Some of the fantastic features of the
framework are:
• Gateway features and landscaping
• Improved amenity and access for
pedestrians and cyclists
• Creating safe environments
• Enhance the City’s image and
appearance
Feedback is sought from residents,
businesses and community groups on
whether the vision and objectives are
right for this key corridor. The plan is
open for comment until Friday,
12 February 2016.

Joining Forces
The Get Wyndham Moving campaign is joining forces with other growth
area Councils to secure federal budget funding.
In 2016 Wyndham City will partner with the National Growth Areas Alliance (NGAA) in the Fund Our
Future campaign. The NGAA represents 23 growth Councils across Australia and aims to give people
living in fast growing outer suburb areas the same opportunities as those living in our Capital Cities.
The new Fund Our Future campaign is aimed at achieving a commitment from the Federal Government
to create a dedicated outer growth suburbs infrastructure fund, advocating for priority road, public
transport and health projects for the fast growing outer suburbs.
Wyndham’s part in the campaign includes campaigning for a $200 million “Roads to Jobs” funding
package for upgrades to Dohertys, Palmers and Leakes Roads and turning the Duncans Road exit into
a full diamond interchange to assist Wyndham’s local economy.
The campaign will be launched in February and residents will be able to view the website and see
how you can get involved.

Healthy Together Wyndham have provided information and support about living
healthier lives to 65 per cent of Wyndham schools, over 40 local workplaces and
63 per cent of Wyndham Kindergartens and child care centres.
Although funding for the initiative has been significantly reduced, the work
to improve health locally will continue, with Council funding and a Victorian
Government grant.
This year, Healthy Together Wyndham will support another four Wyndham
schools to get children and families walking and riding to school, as well
as supporting local workplaces, sporting clubs, leisure centres, schools,
kindergartens and childcare services to be healthier.

The Prize offers a $10,000 non-acquisitive prize and attracts
artists from across Australia and New Zealand to Werribee’s
own Wyndham Art Gallery.
Now in its second year, the Wyndham Art Prize builds on
the growing reputation of the Gallery as a site for contemporary
art in the suburbs that reflects the changing face of Wyndham.

In addition to the main prize, a unique partnership with Deakin
University offers further study opportunities to entrants with
a stipend to complete a Masters or PhD awarded to two
selected artists.
The $2000 People’s Choice Award offers residents and visitors

awarded to the most popular artwork.
