Jesus, humbling himself out of love for us, did not shield his face from buffets and spitting, but offered his life on the cross. He relied on his Father’s * love. "Morning after morning he opens my ear that I may hear..." - Isaiah 50:4 * God will open our ears every day so that we may know His will. We simply need to make it a spiritual practice to constantly ask God to give us the grace to hear and follow Him. Archbishop Myers recommends that we pray every day, "Lord, what do you want me to do with all the gifts that you have given me?" Every Tuesday, the Blessed Sacrament is exposed in the church from 3 to 4 p.m. It is an hour of prayer for the priests, religious men and women and an increase of vocations to the priesthood and the religious life of the Church. We invite you to come and spend time with the Lord for these intentions and for your personal requests. Holy Hour closes with Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. Questions and Answers on the Mass Changes April 17, 2011 - Part 7 of 7 On November 27, 2011, the English speaking Church in the USA will begin using a new translation of the prayers used at Mass (The Roman Missal). A series of Questions and Answers on this topic will be posted here to help explain the thinking behind these changes. Please check back weekly. 9. Do these changes mean that the old translation was not valid and orthodox? The current translation was approved by the conferences of bishops and confirmed by the Holy See. Until the new text becomes effective, the current translation remains the valid ordinary form of the Liturgy in the Roman Rite. The revised translation attempts to address some inadequacies in the present translation by introducing a more elevated style of language and by retaining many poetic texts and scriptural allusions. The current translation fostered the faith of two generations of Catholics and retains a valid place in church history. 10. What opportunities does the new Missal offer the Church? Implementing the new Missal will give the Church an opportunity to take a fresh look at its liturgical practice and to renew its celebration of the Sacred Liturgy, which is the “source and summit” of Christian life (Second Vatican Council, Dogmatic Constitution on the Church [Lumen Gentium], no. 11). The faithful, encountering the Liturgy anew in the new text, can deepen their sharing in Christ’s sacrifice, offering their lives to the Father as they worship “in Spirit and truth” (Jn 4:23). 5 St. Anne’s Parish Community Social All are welcome to St. Anne’s Parish monthly Parish Social sponsored by the “Community Service and Community Building Clusters” of our Parish Pastoral Council. We appreciate your support. 9:00 AM Prayer Svc-Church Evangelization Corner…… Reflecting On The Gospel - Every Palm Sunday we hear two readings proclaimed from the Gospel. One is proclaimed when the palms are blessed; we hear about Jesus entering Jerusalem and the welcome that the people gave him. Then at the Gospel, we hear about Jesus being betrayed, the last meal he share with his apostles, and his arrest, suffering and death. We can’t help but notice that only a few days after being welcomed into Jerusalem with “Hosanna” (a shout of jubilation), Jesus is abandoned;”...all the disciples left him and fled”. We might wonder how we would have behaved if we’d been one of Jesus’ disciples. Would we, too, have fled or would we have remained at Jesus’ side no matter what? More important, though, is to think about the present and the future. We can be loyal to Jesus today, tomorrow and forever. How can we be loyal to Jesus? We can be loyal to Jesus in living the way he taught us that is the way of love. When we offer our help to those who are in need - those who don’t have friends, enough to eat or drink, or those who do not have shelter - we are being loyal to Jesus. We are not abandoning him because we are not abandoning those who are in need. Sharing Ideas - How does it feel to be abandoned by friends? How do you think the apostles felt after they ran off and abandoned Jesus? Acting - As a group, commit to being loyal to Jesus by helping others, not just as a project but as a way of life. 7 INFORMATION PAGE Church Name: St. Anne’s Church Church City: Jersey City, NJ Account Number: 04-1043 Routing Code: B Run Number 5 Phone Number: 201-656-2490 Contact: Georgene DeBenedetto 8
