Council’s “Guide
to Better Business”. You
have found the right tool to
help you work with the finest businesses in a wide array of consumer needs.
Investing is a tricky endeavor these days. For consumers, finding that “just
right” business to serve your
needs or protect your assets
can be challenging. It takes
an investment of your faith
in a business that has been
vetted through a process that
verifies the validity of their
business. This includes license, insurance, reference
and background confirmation as member businesses of the Manatee Chamber of Commerce “Better
Business Council”.
Business investing has
its challenges also. How
do you make your business
stand apart from the competition? A solid answer is to
have a higher standard business practice that includes
qualifying as a member of
the BBC. When you show
the educated consumer that
you are the type of firm that
knows the details of being
the best in your field, you
offer them the confidence
that is needed in our professional business arena.
And you are eager to participate with a group that is
the best of the best.
There is no “Rubber
Stamp” here at the BBC.
All applicants do complete
an application with a mem-
ber of our council personally reviewing and verifying all pertinent business
information. This is followed by a presentation to
the entire council for approval. Applicants are also
required to sign a “Membership Agreement” that
holds our members to the
highest standards.
The BBC has a group of
volunteers serving on the
council. This is no burden
as we all enjoy serving our
community while meeting
the best and brightest businesses and leaders in our
community.
It’s easy for me to extend
the challenge for you to invest, either as a consumer
or a business in the BBC.

What is the Manatee Chamber of
Commerce Better Business Council?
The Better Business Council (BBC) is a committee of
the Membership Development and Services Division
of the Manatee Chamber of
Commerce.
Businesses wishing to become members of the BBC
agree to certain terms and
conditions including clarification and confirmation of
required licensing and proper insurance. In addition,
they must agree to respond
to formal complaints filed
through the Better Business
Council and make every effort to resolve conflicts in a
reasonable, prompt manner
outlined by the BBC.
Understanding that complaints can arise in the normal course of doing business,
and that it can be difficult
at times, to resolve the is-
sues, the BBC attempts to
act as a mediator so that
both parties are hopefully
satisfied. It has been our
experience that, in most
cases they are.
Most area businesses are
operated by hard working
men and women who care
about their customers and
are dedicated to building
and maintaining good relationships. For this reason,
they make the decision to
indicate their commitment
and apply for membership
in the BBC.
Consumers are encouraged to contact the Chamber’s Better Business Council for information regarding
reliability reports on our
members, as well as scams,
charitable solicitations and
more. There is no charge
to consumers for this public service. If you own a

On rare occasions, however, consumers can
be disappointed with a company’s product or service and feel the need to file a complaint. For businesses located in the Manatee County area, the
Chamber’s Better Business Council offers the following advice:
First, attempt to resolve the issue directly with
the business. Often, they are not aware of a customer’s dissatisfaction and are eager to work with
them to resolve the issue.
If efforts to reach a mutually satisfactory solution fail, consumers can contact the Chamber’s Better Business Council (BBC) to receive a “Consumer
Experience Report,” The report can also be downloaded from the Chamber’s website at www.ManateeChamber.com. For businesses located outside
of our area, consumers should contact the Better
Business Bureau of West Florida at 800-525-1447
or www.bbbwestflorida.org. When the BBC receives a completed form, it is
forwarded to the business involved. Please note
that the BBC does not take either side in the dispute
but works to facilitate communication between the
company and the consumer, hopefully resulting in
a satisfactory resolution.
