As part of the revitalisation of
Macquarie Mall and Liverpool’s
Town Centre, supermarket ALDI
officially opened its doors on
9 October. The Liverpool Plaza
store offers more than 1,300
products.
We’ve seen substantial capital
investment, with roads,
plans to rejuvenate the City
Centre, and a CCTV network to
make our streets safer. We’ve
welcomed new businesses
– including retail giants ALDI
and Costco – and advocated
on your behalf on coal seam
gas, the freight terminal and
a second airport. We’ve had
lots of fun, with a series of
wonderful events that have
brightened up our City Centre.

City Centre Celebrations
Council again sponsored the
vibrant Hindu celebration of
Deepawali, the Indian Festival
of Lights which brings light,
colour and music to our
City Centre every year. The
festival celebrates prosperity,
happiness, peace and unity, all
of which we wish for the tens
of thousands of people who
attended the event.

Festive season
lights up Liverpool
I was delighted to kick off the
festive season by lighting the
Christmas tree in Macquarie
Mall. The Christmas tree
lighting is always one of our
most popular events, and this
year I was honoured to be
joined by the Companion of
the Order of Liverpool award
recipient, Pat Foldes.
NYE by the Lake
I look forward to seeing
you at our New Year’s Eve
fireworks by the Lake at Grand
Flaneur Beach and our annual
Australia Day celebrations at
Woodward Park.
I wish all of you a happy and
safe holiday season.
Pay extra attention
to your pets needs
At this time of year it’s
important to take extra care
of our pets by ensuring they
are well hydrated on hot days
and not left alone during
fireworks. Pets also need to
be registered with Council.

So that our position is informed
by what you need and want,
Council has been consulting
with the community about a
new airport at Badgerys Creek.
We listened to you through an
online survey, focus groups and
social media, and the findings
of this community consultation
process will be reported
at our December
Council meeting.
Council welcomes new
businesses with red carpet,
not red tape, said Mayor
Ned Mannoun as he hosted
the first informal morning
tea reception to welcome
10 new businesses to the
area and thank others that
have recently expanded their
operations.

Squeals and laughter could be heard far and wide
as Liverpool children descended on Bigge Park
in October to celebrate Children’s Week with a
variety of sporting, art and other fun activities.
Among the many activities on offer, children
attended a magic show and reptile show,
snacks, and had the opportunity to read
and funded by the Department of
Education and Communities.

a blooming success

and an interesting program of live

Congratulations to Grand Champion
Neville and Robyn McVicker
of Liverpool, and the Reserve
Champion, Margaret Norman of
Lurnea, as well as the many talented
local gardeners who attended the
expo and contributed to the
success of another
major Liverpool
event.

donor – no matter how young,
how old or how sick. Just one
organ can save the lives of up
to 10 people, so it’s a great

Council is overhauling its planning processes
to speed up the determination times of
development applications (DA). A faster and more
efficient DA process will be achieved by increasing staff
numbers to deal with the backlog, reducing the waiting times for
DAs sent to the Independent Hearing and Assessment Panel, and implementing an
e-planning system so applicants can track their DAs online. Council is committed to
reducing red tape and positioning Liverpool as an attractive place to invest.
For more information on the new system, please visit our website.

Len Waters Park,
a green oasis in
Elizabeth Hills
The recently-opened Len Waters Park in Elizabeth Hills
provides a wonderful space for families to relax and
children to play.
The park has an aviation theme and is named in memory
of the first Aboriginal Australian military aviator, Leonard
Waters. He was the only Indigenous RAAF fighter
pilot during the Second World War, he made his name
supporting the allies in Borneo.
Council commends Mirvac for its commitment to creating
spaces like this, which has helped to restore Hinchinbrook
Creek to its natural state and has contributed to building
the community of the future in Liverpool.

Each year Council awards deserving community members
for their achievements and contributions to our City by
presenting them with Order of Liverpool Awards.
This year we are delighted to announce that the
recipients are Patricia Foldes, who receives a Companion
of the Order of Liverpool (CLO) for her incredible
volunteering work over 25 years; Kevin Perry, who
receives an Officer of the Order of Liverpool (OLO) for
many years of dedicated community service since 1979;
and Catherine Goggi, who receives a Member of the
Order of Liverpool (MLO) for her enthusiastic support of
Chipping Norton School as a volunteer since 1987.
The recipients will be presented with their awards at a
formal ceremony on 26 January, 2014.
The recent report “Economic
Impact of a Western Sydney
Airport”, released by the NSW
Business Chamber, found a
new airport at Badgerys Creek
would bring up to 28,000 jobs
and generate more than
$9 billion in economic growth
for our region.
The significant benefits a new
airport could bring for Liverpool
can’t be ignored – but we also
need to consider potential
impacts on the environment,
housing and traffic.

On Friday 27 September a Mayoral Reception for Liverpool
Hospital’s 200 year Anniversary was held at Casula Powerhouse
Arts Centre.
It was an opportunity to pay tribute to the valuable service the
hospital has provided to the people of Liverpool and surrounding
areas.
The hospital is one of Australia’s leading medical education
facilities and is allied with several universities and colleges
providing exceptional training of doctors, nurses and allied
health professionals.
Council recognises and values the vital contribution the Health
and Medical Research sector are making in helping to position
Liverpool as the regional city for South Western Sydney.
Honouring
a firefighting
legend
After the serious bushfires
that have ravaged NSW this
Spring, it is appropriate to say
a big thank you to the heroic
volunteers who make up the
Rural Fire Service (RFS). Local
legend Bill Wilson spent 36
years working for the Rural
Bush Fire Brigade.
The Mayor
Council resolved to dedicate a
significant park to Bill after
his passing in 2000. Following
a $200,000 face lift, in
October the park was officially
dedicated by Mayor Ned
Ned Manno
un with the
Wilson fam
Mannoun as the Bill Wilson
Memorial Park located at
Maple Road in Casula.
