Bridge of Spies
(2hrs, 13min)
Tom Hanks stars as an American lawyer who is recruited by
the CIA during the Cold War to help rescue a pilot detained
in the Soviet Union. Directed by Steven Spielberg.
“Bridge of Spies” tells the story of James Donovan, a
Brooklyn lawyer who finds himself thrust into the center
of the Cold War when the CIA sends him on the nearimpossible task to negotiate the release of a captured
American U-2 pilot. Screenwriters Matt Charman and Ethan Coen & Joel Coen
have woven this remarkable experience in Donovan’s life into a story inspired
by true events that captures the essence of a man who risked everything and
vividly brings his personal journey to life. Rating: PG-13
Room
(1hr, 58min)
After 5-year old Jack and his Ma escape from the enclosed
surroundings that Jack has known his entire life, the boy
makes a thrilling discovery: the outside world.
ROOM tells the extraordinary story of Jack, a spirited 5-yearold who is looked after by his loving and devoted Ma. Like
any good mother, Ma dedicates herself to keeping Jack happy
and safe, nurturing him with warmth and love. Their life,
however, is anything but typical — they are trapped — confined to a windowless,
10-by-10-foot space, which Ma has euphemistically named “Room.” Ma has created
a whole universe for Jack within Room. But as Jack’s curiosity grows, and Ma’s
resilience reaches its breaking point, they enact a risky plan to escape, ultimately
bringing them face-to-face with the real world. Rating: R
Brooklyn
(1hr, 51min)
In 1950s Ireland and New York, young Ellis Lacey has to
choose between two men and two countries.
BROOKLYN tells the profoundly moving story of Eilis Lacey
(Saoirse Ronan), a young Irish immigrant navigating her
way through 1950s Brooklyn. Lured by the promise of
America, Eilis departs Ireland and the comfort of her
mother’s home for the shores of New York City. The initial
shackles of homesickness quickly diminish as a fresh romance sweeps Eilis into
the intoxicating charm of love. But soon, her new vivacity is disrupted by her
past, and Eilis must choose between two countries and the lives that exist
within. Rating: PG-13
Suffragette
(1hr, 46min)
The foot soldiers of the early feminist movement, women
who were forced underground to pursue a dangerous game of
cat and mouse with an increasingly brutal State. Starring
Carey Mulligan, Helena Bonham Carter and Meryl Streep.
These women were not primarily from the genteel educated
classes, they were working women who had seen peaceful
protest achieve nothing. Radicalized and turning to violence
as the only route to change, they were willing to lose everything in their fight for
equality — their jobs, their homes, their children and their lives. Maud was one
such foot soldier. The story of her fight for dignity is as gripping and visceral as
any thriller; it is also heart-breaking and inspirational. Rating: PG-13
Youth
(1hr, 58min) | Fred (Michael Caine), a retired
composer and conductor, vacations at a Swiss Spa with his
longtime friend Mick (Harvey Keitel). As Mick crafts what may be
his final screenplay, Fred is given the opportunity to perform for
the Queen. Also stars Rachel Weisz and Paul Dano. | Fred and
Mick, two old friends, are on vacation in an elegant hotel at the
foot of the Alps. Fred, a composer and conductor, is now retired.
Mick, a film director, is still working. They look with curiosity
and tenderness on their children’s confused lives, Mick’s enthusiastic young writers,
and the other hotel guests. While Mick scrambles to finish the screenplay for what he
imagines will be his last important film, Fred has no intention of resuming his musical
career. But someone wants at all costs to hear him conduct again. Rating: R

that cost anchor Dan Rather his career. Starring Cate
Blanchett, Robert Redford, and Dennis Quaid.
The story of The Killian Documents controversy (a.k.a.
“Rathergate”) in the days leading up to the 2004
presidential election. When veteran newscaster Dan Rather and CBS News head
Mary Mapes choose to air a segment on 60 Minutes exposing how accusing
President Bush avoided being drafted to Vietnam through his father’s political
advantages, the resulting fallout ultimately costs them their jobs and
reputations. Rating: R
Spotlight

The true story of how the Boston Globe uncovered
the massive scandal of child molestation and cover-up
within the local Catholic Archdiocese, shaking the
entire Catholic Church to its core. Starring Rachel
McAdams, Liev Schreiber and Mark Ruffalo.
When the newspaper’s tenacious “Spotlight” team of
reporters delves into allegations of abuse in the Catholic
Church, their year-long investigation uncovers a decades-long cover-up at the
highest levels of Boston’s religious, legal, and government establishment,
touching off a wave of revelations around the world. Directed by Academy Awardnominee Tom McCarthy, SPOTLIGHT is a tense investigative dramatic-thriller,
tracing the steps to one of the biggest cover-ups in modern times. Rating: R
Labyrinth of Lies
(2hrs, 4min)

German institutions and government branches to
cover-up the crimes of Nazis during World War II.
The year is 1958. The war has been over for thirteen
years and the Federal Republic of Germany is not only
recovering but even booming. But where are the Nazis?
Who has ever heard of the death camps? It looks as if
everything is for the best in the best of all possible worlds in this land of milk
and honey... At least, until the day journalist Thomas Gnielka recognizes in the
person of a teacher the former commander of the Auschwitz concentration
camp... At least, until Johann Radmann, a young prosecutor, decides to
investigate the case. Rating: R

Cranston, Helen Mirren and John Goodman.

story of his fight against the U.S. government and studio bosses in a war over

Hopper and John Wayne to Kirk Douglas and Otto Preminger. Rating: R
The Danish Girl
(2hrs) | The remarkable love story
inspired by the lives of artists Lili Elbe and Gerda Wegener. Lili
and Gerda’s marriage and work evolve as they navigate Lili’s
groundbreaking journey as a transgender pioneer. Starring Alicia
Vikander, Amber Heard, Eddie Redmayne and Ben Whishaw.
