Kananaskis Wildlife Drive
Naoto Aoki
Canmore Kananaskis is a region to explore, offering
some of the most dramatic scenery on earth without
the traffic usually associated with such beauty.
There is a new and inspiring view around every corner
and with a wide range of abundant wildlife you never
know what you might see. The region also borders
Banff National Park, and is an ideal point from which to
explore some of its renowned sights. We invite you to
take a drive and explore.
Minimum 3-hour loop
from Canmore
Kananaskis Country is surrounded
by towering mountains and
breathtaking wilderness, as well
as abundant wildlife including
bears, moose, elk, deer and
mountain sheep. The wildlife drive
route may be used as a day trip
from Canmore or as an alternate
route to or from Calgary.
Combine highway 40 to Kananaskis
Village and Kananaskis Lakes with
Highway 742, a well-maintained
gravel road. Best times are early
mornings and evenings – but drive
carefully as wildlife is frequently
on the road, and NEVER leave your
vehicle to approach wildlife.
Why Not: Take in one of the many

unique as people who own them, but the quality of
