“The show was AMAZING!! Everybody was SO touched by the kids' performances and the way
they were encouraged to give their best and show their amazing potential to teach others about
tolerance, acceptance, respect, love, understanding. They are the ones usually target of the
worst from some people and even so, they always give their best unconditionally! What
beautiful minds, hearts, and souls they have! It was a celebration of children of love! Bravo!
Thank you for all CTC staff for ALWAYS working SO hard to give our kids the best opportunities
to them to be themselves in full, happy, and with a very strong sense of being wanted and
admired! You ALL must be VERY proud of who you are and what you do!! You ARE AMAZING too!

Executive Functions Workshop
What a fantastic workshop! Dr. George McCloskey visited Celebrate the Children on Friday, May 10th and provided an amazing
presentation on Executive Functioning to both staff and families!
Dr. McCloskey is a Professor and Director of School Psychology Research at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Dr. McCloskey has been involved in psychological test development and publishing for over 25 years. His presentation offered
an overview of executive functions and the roles of these functions across multiple settings including groundbreaking
techniques for assessment and intervention. He also provided a multidimensional model of executive functions and their
development across an individual’s lifespan.
Couldn’t make it? No worries! The webcast will be available soon on Profectum’s website, www.profectum.org. In addition, join
Dr. McCloskey for a summer institute in Cape Cod: Assessment and Intervention for Child and Adolescent Executive Function

A Peek Into the Classroom
Ron’s Class
Ron's Math class just finished their unit on 3D shapes, also known as polyhedrons. !
We learned how to identify the names and parts of these 3D shapes along with
determining their volume. !Currently, Math classes are studying a unit on algebraic
thinking and expressions.
!
Earlier in the month, Ron's class studied rocks and minerals, which resulted in
creating salt crystals and breaking open geodes! Earth Science class recently
finished units on plate tectonics, fault lines, and the continental drift. We just
started discussing the impact of human activity on our local and global
environments. ! We have done this by studying the history of the Colorado River
before and after the Hoover Dam, the potential impact of Tocks Island at the
Delaware Water Gap, and the history of!Manhattan!and the Meadowlands.
!
Ron's Science Classes have explored the density of objects by! hypothesizing on
which objects will sink and which objects will float. !We have also learned how to
measure the volume of irregular objects by using water displacement and
differentiating the difference between metals and non-metals.!

Celebrate the Children and Profectum Come
Together For an Education Conference
The NJ Educator’s Conference will provide an overview of the latest
insights into!the unique profiles and experiences of children and young
adults on the autistic spectrum and other developmental and emotional
disorders. A comprehensive overview of the application of evidencedbased developmental practices in the classroom will be presented by
teachers, occupational therapists, physical therapists, speech-language
pathologists and mental health professionals, working in both private
and public school settings in the United States and abroad. Program
components that promote regulation, sensory motor development,
visual-spatial capacities, engagement, intentionality, problem solving,
symbolic and abstract thinking will be illustrated through classroom
video examples. Teachers and therapists use affective, emotionally
meaningful, experience-based activities tailored to the individual needs
of the students to maximize motivation, comprehension and retention of
knowledge. The principle of "discovery vs. teaching" is emphasized as
teachers and therapists promote thinking vs. memorization in the
classroom. Case studies will be used to demonstrate how children with
developmental challenges can build strong relationships and become
creative, global thinkers, who are prepared for the 21st century. The
integration of the use of technology to maximize participation and
communication will also be incorporated.

Why Are we Using Social Media and Why Should You Follow Us?
!Autism is the fastest-growing serious developmental disability in the United States and now affects 1 in 50 children.!
More children will be diagnosed with autism this year than AIDS, Diabetes and Cancer combined.!
!
We are at an important time in the field of special needs intervention as many people are beginning to recognize the
need for approaches that look at the overall development of a child and target areas such as abstract thinking,
problem solving, independence, self-esteem, emotions, language, and social interactions in a natural and supportive
setting. At this time, the demand for this type of intervention is much greater than what clinicians and educators are
able to supply. Therefore, it is crucial that we share the amazing programs we have to offer and the “how to” with
others.!!
!
To fulfill our mission, we need your help and ask you to participate with us in the development of work, in the sharing
and building of materials, and in the structure and growth of our organizations: Celebrate the Children and Profectum.
Like us on Facebook, Pinterest and Twitter and spread awareness of progressive programs that support families and
help individuals reach their highest potential and find success in society.
Please share our pages and posts with your family and friends! !
