Our Officer Installation was held on
June 29th, 2013 in
the Family Life Center at 6pm.
This, however, was a
double celebration
as the council celebrated its’ 30th anniversary this year.
Due to the auspiciousness of our anniversary, we had
several visiting dignitaries. The NC
State Deputy Jack
Murray and NC
State Advocate Dan
Lange were in attendance, as well as
our outgoing District
Deputy Dick Hamel.
This event was also
made very special
by the fact that Father Tien Duong
was installed as our
council Chaplain for
the first time.

The cake was provided by
Dan Allegretti, fried chicken
provided by the council, and
many pot luck dishes were
brought by the attendees.
Awards were announced by
FS Gary Andrews and presented by Grand Knight Bill
Cook.
District Deputy Dick Hamel
was awarded a plaque for
his service as District Deputy. Dick has moved up to the
Regional District Deputy position and Stan Finn is now
our District Deputy.
Richard Cook was awarded
the Golden Knight of the
Year award for the council,
and will be entered into the
running for the NC state
Golden Knight of the Year
Award.
Father Tien was given a
plaque for his continued
and unwavering support of
St. Michael’s Council #8363
of the Knights of Columbus.

October/early November 1st degree!
As Catholic Gentleman, there is no greater love than the love of our family. As you have learned in your first
degree, charity always begins at home. We show our love to our family in many ways. We kiss our wife when
we get home from work, we kiss our children before they go to bed, and we make sure to protect our family
from anything that might harm them. What could be more harmful to your family than the death of a family
member? We need to discuss how the death of a family member, an event that can devastate your family
emotionally and financially, is something we must protect our family against. The decision to purchase Life
Insurance to protect your family is one of the biggest signs of love we can show to our loved ones. It shows
that you have made a promise to protect your family.
Consider these two stories:
John and Jane have two children and John has a small $10,000 policy he says is “for my burial.” His KofC
Field Agent contacts him, but John continually claims “I’m all set with my life insurance”. Despite repeated attempts, John does not allow his Field Agent into the home to discuss his Life Insurance profile. One year later, the Field Agent gets a call from Jane saying John has passed away. When the Field
Agent delivers the $10,000 Life Insurance check to Jane, she asks “How can we afford to keep the
house and pay the bills? We’re going to have to move in with my sister”.
Jack and Jill have three children and Jack has several life insurance policies through the KofC and other
life insurance companies as well. His Field Agent contacts Jack, but Jack says “I think I have enough
life insurance”. Reluctantly, Jack agrees to a meeting, and discovers he is still underinsured. Jack decides to protect his family and purchase additional Life Insurance. Three years later, Jill calls the Field
Agent and says that Jack has passed away in an accident. The Field Agent not only provided Jill with
the check but also helped Jill by contacting the other insurance companies on her behalf. With the
help of the Field Agent, Jill will now be able to collect an income for life, stay in their home keep the
kids in Catholic School.
By talking with his Field Agent and properly insuring his family, Jack made a promise to his family to protect
them, and now they are able to live the life that Jack would want them to live if he were still alive. Protecting
your family through Life Insurance shows just as much, if not more love as when we kiss our wife when we
get home from work or when we kiss our children before they go to bed. Make that promise to your family
today that you will protect them. Call me to set up a meeting to make sure your family is protected.

Annual Corn Roast a Great Success
Pumpkinfest is coming up. Council
#8363 will have a
booth again this
year. Volunteers are
needed, and if you
aren’t volunteering
come on by and visit!
The Feast of St Francis celebration is set for October
5th, 2013 after 4pm Mass.
Knights have been asked to
set up tables and chairs in
the Family Life Center and
outside for the event.
We’ve also been asked to
set up a perimeter on the
front lawn for kids games.
We will start set up at
10am. Please contact Gary

Our annual Corn
Roast was absolutely fantastic this
year. Ken Bechert
organized the
event, and put a lot
of time and energy
into making it the
success it was.
The corn shucking
was done the morning of the 28th, with
lots of volunteers
who showed up to
work. The youth
helped to shuck the
corn and also
helped set up the
family life center.
Katie Bechert made
her famous raisin
sauce again this
year, and worked
tirelessly in the
kitchen keeping us
guys in line.
Bill Richards volunteered to actually
roast some of the
corn, which was
done outside on the
grill. Everyone who
ate some of the
roasted corn liked

it.
We also had a 50/50
raffle and raffled off
some key lime pies
during the event.
150 tickets were collected when all was
said and done, which
was more than seen
in previous years.
The event was a
huge success, and
brought a much
needed financial
boost to the council.

Annual Handicapped Picnic
The council held its’
annual handicapped picnic on
July 27th, 2013 in
the Family Life Center. Approximately
60 guests attended,
and a good time
was had by all.
A big Thank you to
all the volunteers
that were there!
Brother Richard Piacente passed away on August 26th,
Father Richard Mc Cue passed away on August 28th and
Brother Dan Birchard passed away on September 19th.
As we mourn the loss of our Brothers, let us also extend
our sympathy and support to their families.
