STEP 1
ATTACHING NEWEL POSTS
This is the “anchor” of your stairway and care
must be taken to assure proper secure attachment and place­ment of all newels. Trim newel
post to required height (as per local building
code). Depending on the type of construction
there are many ways in which newel posts may
be attached.

A simple method with open tread is to
utilize our unique newel attaching hardware
(comes complete with instructions). Attaching hardware can be used where newels are
free standing or attached against stairs.

one of the most secure methods of
mounting newel posts to finished
floors. It uses floor joists for support,
needs additional framing and installs in
as little as 10 minutes. (comes complete
with instructions)

ATTACHING RAILING

It is best to cut railing to
size and angle after newel posts
have been installed. Simply
place railing against base of
newel post and mark angle of
line for cutting.

STEP 3
ATTACHING WOOD SPINDLES
A.
Channeled Rail – Hold spindle tight against newel post
making sure the turned area is centred. Mark angle with
pencil guided by the top and bottom rails. This gives you
correct angle and height. Be sure to add 3/16” (5mm) to
allow for depth of slot in each rail. DO NOT CUT TOO SHORT!
B.
Non-Channeled Rails – This application
requires precise cutting as the spindle is
attached directly to the rail. Pre-drilling,
screwing and plugging hole is usually required.
C. Hardware such as
Install spindles one at a time, alternately
with fillets. Then apply adhesive to both
ends of spindle and place in channel.
Apply adhesive to fillet and insert in
channel before positioning next spindle.
Finally secure spindles and fillets with
finishing nails.
