DRAFT Minutes of the Spring 2016 MVOR
A field outside Brumley, Missouri in Miller County
April 30th, 2016
Meeting was called to order by President, Alicia Wallace at 7:05 pm.
Chris Doerhoff led the meeting in a rousing rendention of “Row,
Row, Row Your Boat”
Roll Call: All officers present and introduced themselves. Alicia
Wallace, President, Chris Doerhoff, Vice-President, Jim Donley,
Treasurer and Bryan McAllister, Secretary.
Many thanks to the MCKC for putting on a great event despite the
rain on Friday night and Saturday morning. Strong round of
applause from attendees for all who helped out with this one.
Attendance reported at 192.
Previous MVOR Minutes: Alicia Wallace asked for accepting or
making any changes to the Fall 2015 MVOR minutes as posted in
the flyer. No changes. Motion to accept the minutes made,
seconded and passed.
Treasurer's Report: Treasurer, Jim Donley, reported a beginning
balance on 10-4-15 of $7,467.69 – Credit Union $3,445.91, Savings
$4,021.78. Ending balance on 4-28-16 of $7,118.44 – Credit Union
$3,090.62, Savings $4,027.82. Jim reported the 2015 annual report
and provided several copies for anyone wishing to review. Motion
to accept the treasurer’s report seconded and passed.
Old Business:
The issue of moving the MVOR board elections to the Spring MVOR,
which was brought up at the Fall event. Nobody present to speak
on it and no information presented.
Upcoming MVORs:
2016 Fall – hosted by Windy City Grotto and Louisville Grotto – will
be held Sept. 30th - Oct. 2nd at Lone Star Preserve, near Bonneville,
Kentucky. Bill English spoke - many caves on site and “All caves
connect to Mammoth.” As well as nearby Mammoth Cave National
Park and many show caves. Bill offered there will be no rain.
Offering electronic registration. Speleobooks will be a vendor.
2017 Spring – hosted by MSM – date to be determined – probably
near Waynesville area.
2017 Fall – no bids yet.
2018 Spring – no bids yet.
New Business:
Kerry Rowland spoke about how great the MCKC Goodwin Sink
project is. He said that everyone here, if you haven’t been to it or
seen it you should. He said it could be the largest cave discovery in
Missouri made in a long time once it is cleaned up more and
unblocked. Kerry made the motion that the MVOR Conservation
Fund donate $1,000 to MCKC for it’s continued efforts at Goodwin
Sink. Discussion: Ken Long added that the sinkhole is dye-traced to
Ha Ha Tonka some 11 miles away. Money would go to large
equipment rental/fuel to continue. Kerry said we(MCKC) own it and
it’s a big cave that will go. Maybe not tomorrow, maybe not even
next year, but it will go. Seconded. Voted on, two against, all others
in favor. Motion passed.
Tony Schmitt presented the Lester B. Dill Award to Scott House for
his many, many years of distinguished service to caves, mapping &
locating, the Missouri Caves Database, caving and cave
conservation in the region. Well deserved. Much applause.
Announcements:
Alicia announced the MVOR is always in need donated carbide
lamps for Lester B. Dill Award. They don’t have to be working order.
Please contact her or Jim Ruedin if you have any that you wish to
donate.
Alicia asked how people felt about a possible discount rate for
students. Alicia said the hosts can adjust as long as the hosting
event costs are covered.
Registration issues – put your address, city, state and zip clearly on
any forms.
MoCaves email list is dying – MoCaves has become a Yahoo Group.
Alicia added please post your pics from this weekend to the MVOR
Facebook page so everyone can see them.
As some of you may have heard, longtime MVOR attendee Don
Dunham’s wife, Jan, had a medical event, possible stroke recently
and is in the ICU. This MVOR is the first time he’s missed one since
1985. Please stop by and sign the card at Registration and send
some kind thoughts and prayers to him in this difficult time.
Meeting moved to adjourn and seconded at 7:31 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Bryan McAllister, Secretary
