the office to the hospital, every step of the way. The medical practice is
headed by two board certified area physicians, Dr. Fatima Aziz and Dr. Syed
Ashraf. Dr. Aziz leads the office practice, located in St. Albans at 221 Fourth Avenue,
while Dr. Ashraf spearheads the care provided to patients should they need hospitalization.

In addition to treating patients with health issues, the office practice offers wellness
visits, during which patients receive a check-up and can discuss health concerns before
those concerns become more serious. “Wellness visits are an important part of patient
care, and something we encourage for all our patients” said Dr. Aziz. “By capturing
patient information when they are healthy, we can see the changes that are occurring
when our patients need care. It is also a great time to get a flu vaccine.”
Medical Clinics is different from many other clinics because Medical Clinics’ professionals see patients in the office and in the hospital. “Having the continuity of care
when a patient enters the hospital is valuable in ensuring the best possible treatment for
our patients,” said Dr. Ashraf. “Having an independent physician coordinate the many
aspects of patient hospital care can be very effective.”
The practice recently expanded by adding Dustin Atkins, PA-C, to the staff. Dustin
has extensive experience in hospital and clinical settings prior to joining MCWV.

Road Thoughts: What’s Your Direction

W
henever I plan a long road trip on my bike I have a destination in mind.
Since I have my destination already in my mind… I know the direction I
need to travel. The same is true about our lives. In your life…do you have a
destination? Do you know the direction to travel?
The destination you reach in your life is determined by the direction you travel.
That seems obvious enough. Yet… all too often it is forgotten when making the
moment-by-moment… day-by-day choices that establish the direction of your life.
Now you can choose the direction that is easiest or most comfortable. However, it
usually does not lead to the destination that is the most desirable. That’s because creating something of value in life involves challenge… effort… sacrifice… and moving out
of your comfort zone.
Imagine what would happen if you went for a drive in your car, and at every intersection you selected the road with the least amount of traffic. You would probably have
a pleasant, comfortable drive, but would have a very difficult time getting anywhere in
particular.
Traveling through life works in much the same way. If you always take the easiest,
most comfortable road, you make it all but impossible to reach a destination of your
choosing. The choices you make each moment are what control your direction. And
the direction you choose to take and maintain will determine the destination at which
you arrive.
So if you really get to where you want to go in life… to arrive at your chosen destination… then move at every chance you can in the direction that will take you there.

1 c. pecans, chopped, 1 c. plain flour
salt pinch, 2 c. sugar
1 stick butter, 2 squares Baker’s unsweetened chocolate
4 eggs, 1 tsp vanilla or almond flavoring
Mix pecans, flour, salt and sugar. Melt butter and chocolate on top of a double
boiler. In a large bowl, beat the eggs slightly with large spoon - add the dry ingredients
and stir, then add vanilla or almond flavoring and stir. Bake in preheated oven at 350
for 30-35 minutes. Cut into squares and remove while fudge cake is still warm.

1 quart Ragu spaghetti sause, 1 lb box Rotini macaroni
1 3/4 lbs. lean ground beef, 1 lg onion chopped
l lg green pepper, chopped, l c. Parmesan cheese
1 c. Shredded cheddar cheese, 1 c. Shredded Mozzarella cheese
1 sm can mushrooms (optional), 1 8oz pepperoni
Cook macaroni and drain. Brown ground beef with onions and green peppers, cook
until transparent. Add pepperoni and pizza sauce to ground beef mixture. Season to
taste with salt and pepper, Italian herbs or any other seasoning you care to add. Heat
thoroughly then add macaroni and cheeses and serve. Instead of mixing everything
together, you may stir macaroni into sauce and then pour into a 9x13 sprayed pan,
then sprinkle pepperoni and cheese on top and bake at 350o till cheese melts.

Think Better

T
here is a book by that same title – Think Better – by Tim Hurson, who writes
about brainstorming tools that will empower you to generate, organize, and
process ideas. Whether you are a manager or an artist, whether you work alone
or in a group, you will think better and do better by learning to unlock your creative
intelligence – and unblock your thinking.
To create the future, you first must be able to imagine it. Productive thinking is a
way to help you do that. More than anything, productive thinking is an attitude that
will let you look at problems and convert them into opportunities. The goal at the end
of a disciplined brainstorming process, is to have a concrete action plan, complete with
timelines and deadlines.
Tim Hurson has developed a model consisting of six interlocking steps
1) What’s going on? Explore and truly understand the challenge.
2) What’s success? Envision the ideal outcome and establish success criteria.
3) What’s the question? Pinpoint the real problem or opportunity.
4) Generate answers. List many possible solutions.
5) Forge the solution. Decide which solution is best. Then make it better.
6) Align resources. Create an action plan.
Think Better – your company’s future depends on it – and so does yours.
